chapter one
In the grand estate of the Lennox family, adorned with elaborate chandeliers and sprawling gardens, Mira moved silently through the halls, her heart heavy with the weight of her duties. As the youngest maid in the household, she was responsible for keeping the vast home clean and orderly, but her heart longed for something more than the mundane tasks that filled her days.
Mira was a girl of striking beauty, with skin the color of rich mahogany and hair that cascaded like waves. Though she wore the simple uniform of a maid, her grace and elegance made her stand out. She often found herself lost in daydreams, imagining a life where love and laughter filled her days.
But there was one person in the estate who saw her—the youngest master of the house, simon Lennox. simon was charming and cold-hearted, with deep green eyes that sparkled with mischief. He had recently returned from studying abroad, and his presence brought an air of excitement to the otherwise austere home. Mira had caught glimpses of him in the garden, laughing with friends, and every time her heart fluttered as if it were dancing to a secret rhythm.
One afternoon, while dusting the ornate shelves in the library, Mira heard the familiar sound of Simon's laughter echoing through the hall. She paused, her heart racing, and peeked out from behind the door. He was sitting on the floor with a group of friends, telling stories that made everyone roar with laughter. The warmth of his smile enveloped the room like sunlight breaking through the clouds.
“Mira!” he called suddenly, his voice breaking through her reverie. “Come here!”
Her heart skipped a beat. “Me, sir?” she stammered, stepping hesitantly into the room.
“Of course! I need an audience for my tales,” he said with a playful grin.
Mira’s cheeks flushed as she approached. The laughter of his friends faded as they turned to her, and she felt a mix of shyness and excitement wash over her. “What story are you telling?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Simon leaned back against a stack of books, his eyes sparkling. “The one about a brave maid who captures the heart of a prince,” he said, his gaze lingering on her. “Only, in this version, the maid is the real hero.”
As he spoke, Mira felt a warmth spread through her. “And what makes her a hero?” she asked, intrigued.
“She sees beyond the riches and the titles,” Simon replied, his tone serious yet kind. “She loves with an open heart and isn’t afraid to chase her dreams.”
Mira’s heart fluttered at the implication of his words. Did he see her? Did he understand her dreams? As the laughter resumed, she found herself lost in his gaze, feeling a connection that seemed to transcend their different worlds.
But the reality of their situation hung in the air like a heavy curtain. She was a maid, and he was the master of the house. The unspoken rules of their society loomed over them, threatening to shatter the fragile moment they shared.
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the room, simon turned serious. “Mira, can I ask you something?” His friends had drifted into their own conversations, leaving them momentarily alone.
“Of course, sir,” she replied, her heart racing.
“Why do you always look so sad?” he asked, genuine concern etched on his face.
Mira hesitated, caught off guard. “I… I don’t know what you mean,” she said, forcing a smile.
“Don’t hide it from me,” he pressed gently, closing the distance between them. “You deserve more than this life. You deserve to chase your dreams.”
His words struck a chord within her, igniting a fire of hope. “I dream of a life filled with love and laughter,” she admitted softly, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
simon's expression softened, and he took her hands in his. “Then let’s make that dream a reality. I will help you, Mira. You’re not just a maid to me; you’re so much more.”
In that moment, everything shifted. The air crackled with unspoken possibilities, and for the first time, Mira felt seen—not just as a maid, but as a woman with dreams worth pursuing.
But the sound of footsteps approaching pulled them back into reality. Panic flashed simon’s eyes. “We shouldn’t be seen like this,” he whispered, pulling away just as the door swung open.
Mira stepped back, her heart racing. As the laughter of his friends filled the air once more, she knew this moment would linger in her mind—an ember of hope in her otherwise ordinary life. She turned to leave, but not before glancing back at simon whose eyes held a promise of something more.
As she rejoined her chores, the weight of her duties felt lighter, and a flicker of hope ignited within her. Perhaps, just perhaps, the path to her dreams wasn’t as far away as she had once thought.
