The Unseen Watcher
The school bell rang, its echo slicing through the halls as five students were reluctantly ushered into the darkened detention room. It was a Friday, and instead of enjoying the weekend, they had been caught skipping class, cheating on tests, or talking back to teachers. There were no excuses, and now they would face the consequences.
The group consisted of Maya, a shy but brilliant student; Kaito, a rebellious troublemaker; Ayumi, the class president with a hidden dark side; Haru, a quiet introvert; and Ryuu, the jock who had recently been mysteriously failing. They all sat at different corners of the cold, sterile room, the only light coming from a flickering fluorescent bulb above them.
“You think detention is really gonna help us?" Kaito scoffed, leaning back in his chair. "We’re not the first ones to be here. What's so special about today?"
Maya, clutching her books nervously, whispered, "There’s something strange about this room. I heard rumors... about the last group of students who were here. They... disappeared."
"Come on, Maya, stop being superstitious," Ayumi rolled her eyes. "This is just a regular detention."
Haru, his eyes locked on the shadows in the corners, shuddered. "What if... there’s more to this room than we realize?"
Suddenly, the door creaked open, and their teacher, Mr. Oshima, entered. His pale face and tired eyes seemed distant, almost as if he had seen too many things he shouldn’t have. "Quiet. This will be your final warning," he said in a low voice. “No talking, no distractions.”
The door slammed shut behind him, and they were left in eerie silence, the only sound being the occasional rustle of papers and the odd drip of water from a leaky pipe.
As time passed, the tension in the room grew thicker. The fluorescent light buzzed louder. Kaito broke the silence again, smirking. "I don't know about you guys, but I can't stay here much longer."
But as he stood up to leave, the door wouldn’t open. He tried again and again, but it was as if something was holding it shut. The others joined him, attempting to force the door, but it didn’t budge.
"Did we... lock ourselves in?" Ryuu asked, sweat forming on his brow.
"No," Ayumi said, her voice quivering for the first time. "This doesn’t feel right. We need to get out of here."
And then, it happened. A cold gust of wind swept through the room, extinguishing the weak light and plunging them into complete darkness. A distant sound echoed, something like scratching, clawing at the walls.
Then, from the corner, a figure appeared—tall, hunched, its limbs too long, its eyes glowing with a red, unsettling hue. The students froze, their hearts pounding in their chests.
“What... is that?” Maya whispered, her voice trembling.
The figure tilted its head and grinned, revealing rows of sharp, jagged teeth. It stepped forward, its every movement accompanied by the sound of bones cracking and creaking.
“That... that’s the spirit of the detention room,” Ayumi whispered in horror, her usual confidence now replaced by fear. "It’s been here for decades. The students who came before us... they’re never seen again."
“We have to leave now!” Kaito shouted, his rebellious nature finally giving way to panic.
But the figure advanced closer, its presence growing colder by the second. Its voice was a low, guttural whisper. "You will never leave... not until you face the truth."
Suddenly, the lights flickered back on, and the room was empty again. The figure had vanished, leaving the students staring at each other in confusion.
"What just happened?" Ryuu asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Ayumi swallowed hard. "It’s a curse. Detention... it's not a punishment. It’s a trap. Every student who serves detention here... becomes part of it. You can’t escape until you uncover the truth about what happened to the ones before you."
The clock on the wall began to tick louder, and the students realized they were no longer alone. The room was filled with whispers—soft at first, but growing louder, as if the walls themselves were alive.
“We need to find out what happened,” Haru said, his voice steady despite the terror in his eyes. "Before it’s too late."
And with that, the group of five set off on a dark journey, unraveling the terrifying history of the school’s detention room, determined to uncover the truth... no matter the cost.
