18 Ginny awoke to the sound of someone moving about the room. She felt for Hendrik beside her in bed but found his place empty. She glanced toward the curtain and could see daylight just approaching and entering the room in vibrant streaks. Hendrik paced around the room and seemed to be looking for a place to put—or hide—something. Ginny quietly sat up in bed. Through the sparse light, it looked as though Hendrik held a gun. He must have had it because of his government work. Had he had it on him the whole time? She looked to her right and saw a note at the bedside, a reminder about something. Ginny suppressed a gasp as she squinted and read it. The handwriting looked familiar and nearly identical to the person who had left her the note. She had been too distracted last night to notice
