Jack Worth’s POV
She was fiery, I’d give her that, after so many assistants throwing themselves at me every chance I gave them, she was different and of course it already rubbed me the wrong way.
I was the d**k? She called $1500 a week under paid!
I snorted in bewilderment, I needed to know more about her, a full background check, then her likes and dislikes, I’d never not won a woman over, Kate would not be any different and yet..
I welcomed the challenge.
Kate POV
I felt like I’d made a mistake.. he was an ass.
Mr Worth had already made it under my skin 3 times in 3 interactions, my temper felt flared and the walk down, from the office back to the coffee shop had eased nothing.
Sam smiled from behind the counter as she spots me, waving, I wave back, holding up 2 fingers, she nods, before I’ve even crossed the road.
The walk sigh turns green and I hurry across, traffic’s beginning to pick up.
I walk to the pick up counter, releasing a frustrated breath, I plaster a smile on.
“That bad huh?” Sam comments.
I nod, rolling my eyes I offer a genuine smile.
“I don’t know what I’ve signed up for!” I complain, taking the cups of coffee.
“Best jobs are never easy..” She winks at me, earning a chuckle from me.
“That’s to damn close to the truth!” I shake my head. “This man, so freaking annoying!” I whine, Sam chuckles at first and then her forehead creases, I feel hot breath on my neck and reluctantly I turn.
“You took too long..” Mr Worth drawls, taking a cup, he sips it slowly, then winks at Sam and turns around, striding to the exit.
I stare after him as he leaves, when Sam interrupts my thoughts.
“That’s him isn’t it?” She asks, I nod vaguely, pouting at the man as he walked away.
“He is so hot.. like movie star level..” Samantha mutters, I look to her, she’s staring after Mr Worth, yeah and movie star level drama, something I didn’t need to know about, especially with Tom still on my mind.
“I’ll see you after work maybe?” I ask, Sam turns to me and smiles.
“I get off at 4pm today.” Sam says, I nod.
“I’ll see you then hopefully or text you otherwise.” I smile, offering a wave, I turn back to the exit, finding Mr Worth waiting just outside the door of the café, he raises his cup in salute to Samantha who blushes, although he offers nothing to me but a narrowed gaze.
Pouting I walked towards him, he offers a arm I reluctantly take, he is still my boss, for a month.
Kate POV
I’d spent the better part of my first week glaring at Mr Worth from my desk, before, during and after phone calls.
I’d caught him smirking in my directions so many times, I’d poked my tongue out and get shushed in response.
“I’m so glad it’s the weekend!” I sighed in relief, as I packed up my desk for the week.
“Are you so glad it’s the weekend?” A bored tone interrupts my thoughts, I jolt in surprise, snapping my head around, I find Mr Worth standing inside the office doorway.
“What are you-are you eavesdropping?!” I snap in annoyance. “So what if I’m excited to escape you for two days hmm?” I remark rudely, he’d been exceptionally rude this afternoon.
“It’s all well and good to dream but I own you on weekends too..” Mr Worth replies, his voice suggestive and teasing.
“What do you mean?” I ask, my patience wearing thin today.
“You get $1500 a week for a reason remember?” He says, a greasy smirk on his lips. “Wine, Condoms and weekend’s..” He says smugly.
“That’s great, but I think it should be $1500 a week plus an extra $500 for weekends.” I say boldly, Mr Worth raises his eyebrows.
“Oh? Do you?” He asks, his smugness a little toned down now.
“I do, you’ve been the hardest person I’ve ever worked for, fickle, demanding and now possessive! If you want me on weekends, pay me more!” I yell, slamming my things into the handbag on my arm.
I sounded greedy I know, but it had been a tough week and Mr Worth had not once failed to push me to the edge of exhaustion.
Mr Worth frowns but says nothing, shoving his hands in his pockets, he stands straighter, I don’t back down.
Finally I throw a hand up in annoyance, storming past him towards the office door.
“See you Monday then!” I say over my shoulder, I reef open the door roughly when his voice catches me.
“Wait!” He says, I hold the door, looking back a moment, he seems to having an internal battle before finally exhaling loudly.
“Extra $500 it is.. what’s that sort of spare change is that to me?” He huffs to himself, I smile, nodding,
“Good! Call whenever…after 7pm.” I say happily, this catches his attention.
“Excuse me?” He asks, a bewildered look on his face.
I huff in annoyance, looking back to him, I meet his eyes.
“I have a date..” I say, Mr Worth looks angry at the information when I add. “With my girlfriend Sam, girls night till 7pm.” I deduce, saving an argument I could see brewing, he clenches his jaw but says nothing, merely nodding and heading back to his desk.
I smile to myself, leaving without another word, feeling victorious.
