Chapter 1
Lucian frowned. In the past, whenever he brought up getting a divorce, I would humbly beg him not to leave me.
But now, the room was completely silent, as if no one was inside at all.
He let out a cold laugh and kicked the door open hard.
"Aurelia, come out right now. Don't try any tricks on me!"
Thick dust swirled up and struck his face. Lucian coughed sharply twice, covering his nose as the dust choked him.
He stood still for a moment, then stepped across the threshold into the room.
His gaze settled on the dining table. Resting there were the leftover meals from the day Margot had taken my son Milo and me away.
The food had turned moldy and gave off a rotten, foul stench. Just like my body.
Margot's eyes flickered slightly.
She grabbed hold of Lucian's arm and said, "Lucian, do you think your wife is hiding on purpose because she's still angry that I took her and Milo? She must be avoiding me out of spite. But I have a severe condition that makes me act recklessly. If I don't play these kinds of games, I really might lose control and hurt someone."
As she spoke, she began to sob softly.
Her tears fell onto the dust-covered floor, and not a single drop made a splash or left a mark.
Lucian tapped her nose gently, his eyes filled with obvious fondness.
"It is not your fault at all. It was nothing more than a game. She is the one who is too narrow-minded and always makes a big deal out of everything."
My heart throbbed with sharp pain.
In the first year after we married, I learned that Lucian had a childhood friend he was deeply attached to.
He told me Margot was only unwell and asked me to play along with her little games.
Because Margot's mother had once saved Lucian's life, I endured what she called "fun and entertainment"... though in truth, it was nothing but abuse and torment.
I tried telling Lucian exactly what was happening, but he accused me of being petty and said I was only jealous and trying to compete for his attention.
Now that my life was over, he still looked at nothing but that cruel, cold-hearted woman.
He walked into the bedroom. It was neat and orderly, except for a diary placed right beside the bed.
Lucian knew I kept a diary, yet he had never once bothered to look inside it before.
My heart began to beat faster and faster.
Every page of that diary held detailed records of all the abuse Margot had put my son and me through over the years.
If he read those words, would he finally see her true nature?
Lucian opened the diary and began to read.
On February 24, 2017, I was locked up by Margot for three whole days. It felt like a nightmare I could never wake up from. She gave me nothing to eat, hit and kicked me whenever she pleased, and even caused me to lose my first baby. I hate her so much. I want to kill her!
Margot's temples throbbed violently. She pouted, looking hurt and deeply wronged.
"Your wife is being so unfair! How could she write such terrible lies about me here? I was only playing a game with her! Besides, I send you videos every single day. You saw it yourself... I gave her plenty of rich, delicious food to eat, plenty of meat and fine dishes!"
Lucian snorted in disgust and tossed the diary onto the floor without a second thought.
"That woman has always been a liar and a troublemaker. Since it is Thanksgiving today, I will not bother arguing with her nonsense."
Every bit of hope I had left completely shattered. It felt as though my heart was being torn apart piece by piece, over and over again.
There was a time when Lucian cared about every single small thing I told him.
Even if I was just having bad pain from my period, he would rush me to the hospital, worried sick.
But ever since Margot came into his life, all it took was a few careless words from her, and I turned into a wicked, lying woman in his eyes.
Lucian's cold, sharp gaze swept across every corner of the room.
He searched for any sign of where I might be hiding, or for hidden cameras he thought I might have set up to spy on him or record him.
But he found nothing at all.
He frowned deeply and called out, "Aurelia, whatever game you are playing, you had better show yourself tonight. Do not make me lose my patience!"
