SUMMONING THE ALPHA

1326 Words
Davon's point of view I sat in the dimly lit room, slowly sipping the wild whiskey that was brought in by the servants,my leg resting on the transparent glass table in a parallel position. I shut my eyes, savouring the taste of the hot liquid ad it burnt down my throat. The lights filtered through the curtains resting on my body, I had lost count of when I woke up, the late night thoughts suffocating me. The thoughts of getting an heir kept burning in my mind, threatening to break me down.I took another sip and gulped it down, a sigh escaping my lips. Just as I was about to enjoy the peace of mind I had craved, a knock was heard on the door. My gaze shifted towards the door and I kept mute. Anger boiling in me. I disliked getting interrupted especially when I was thinking. The person behind the door was relentless, the knuckles occasionally rasping on the wooden frame, making my stomach to churn in annoyance. “Come in,” My gruff voice said. The door yanked open and Patrick; my Beta walked in,a smirk on his face.“You don't have to drown yourself in alcohol,”he said, walking over to me while maintaining the smirk on his face.“You’d lose the smirk on your face if you continue with your absurd rules,” I threatened while maintaining my calm. He scoffed. Patrick was different from other wolves, he hardly takes my words to heart. I may be mad at everyone, but Patrick? He was different. He was more like a brother to me. A bastard brother.“What brings you to my chambers?” I asked, shifting my gaze back to the bottle which contained the amber liquid. “You scheduled to meet the elders today. I just came to remind you,” he said, halting his steps in front of me. He had this funny scent on him. The damn bastard had mated with one of the maidens. “You had some fun tonight, yes?”I asked, pouring the whiskey into a cup. He raised his brow, a surprised expression running across his dark face. “Pardon?” he said in the most Innocent way. He had forgotten I had a heightened sense of smell and can detect the funniest of them.“A maiden on heat. Impressive,” I smirked, trying hard to deviate from the topic. I knew well why the elders wanted me and I wasn't ready to give them a reply. Not yet. “That isn't why I'm here. The Elders are waiting in the court. You were going to meet them tonight,” he said,a tone of seriousness evident in his voice. I rolled my eyes in disgust and anger. Well, I have heard enough of their stupid talks.“Is it time?” I asked, a hint of frustration in my voice, slamming the glass harder on the the table than I had intended, the sound reverberating through the room. “Yes. It is,” he whispered, tilting his head a little bit lower.“Run along, Patrick. I'll be there soon,” I said, waving my hand dismissively in the air. He gave me a brief stare before walking out of the room. I traced my steps to my royal robe and slipped into it, strutting out of the room. The moon stood in the middle of the sky, its rays brushing against my skin. The door to the court yard flunked open and I walked in with a domineering aura. The court yard was well decorated with candles and some fetish items. They believed the items attracted the Luna goddess, and intercedes for us. I hated the room and everything it represents. I sat on the throne like a god I was, their eyes boring into my skin. Their faces held a mask of disapproval as they exchanged glances. “You have no heir,Alpha Davon,” Zed; the cheif elder said, his voice soft but firm. The rest of them nodded in agreement. “Without an heir, the future of the pack is uncertain. We need…” “I need nothing from you,” my voice sliced through the air, sharp and harsh. I stood on my feet, towering above their pathetic form, my face grim. “The pack belongs to me. You think a blood line matters? An heir? What matters is power, strength and fear. And i have them all.”The elders exchanged another glance, a brief silence settling in the atmosphere.“Strength fades,my Lord. Time is not on our side. Even the most powerful werewolves needs…” the words barely escaped his lips before I interrupted, this time my voice sounding harsher than I intended. “Your time is up old man. You should be preparing for your funeral instead of sitting in the midst of these fools,” I growled,my eyes searching their faces for any sign of expression, but got none. “ What this pack needs is a leader. Someone who speaks and they tremble. Not someone who waits to die, hoping their spawn will be strong enough to take their place!” I roared. The air was thick with tension, the elders looked afraid to speak. The silence was a sign of disapproval, but they dared not voice it out. Exactly what I wanted. I loved watching them tremble in fear when I speak.“You are being reckless,” another elder spoke, his voice as sharp as his gaze. I was impressed and annoyed at his audacity. “The pack is watching, Davon. Without a successor…” “Watch your tongue,” I growled in a low tone. “One more word from you and I'll strip you of your useless spawns scattered in this land,” I growled, clenching my jaw. He knew better that I would do it and he stepped back a little bit, fear of the unknown consuming him. Good. "Without a successor, I’ll still be here. I’m not dead yet." I took a step toward them, my eyes blazing with fury. "Do you think I care about their whispers? About your warnings? The pack obeys because they fear me, not because of some heir. The moment I have a child, the rest will see weakness. They’ll look to him as if my reign is over. I won’t allow it." My voice boomed. Despite how hard I tried to fight their opinions, I felt myself growing weaker. They were right, I knew it. I shook my head in disgust.“You all are just old and stuck in the past. Time has changed. I am the Alpha and I decide who rules the pack,” I bellowed. “And if you have forgotten, I am the law and this is the last time I'll have this meeting,” I snarled, walking out of the room, Patrick trailing behind me. Just at the threshold, I heard his voice again, this time, it had no atom of fear in it.“I fear the fate of the pack more than I fear you,Davon!” he bellowed. I froze at the spot, my muscles twitching beneath my skin. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. A cold smile ran across my face, my brow raising before I whirled around, my eyes piercing into his eyes. “You are wrong,” I chuckled. “You should fear me more than you fear the fate of the pack,” I whispered coldly while maintaining my cold grin. “Believe it or not, you're reign will end,” he said. Without another word, I stormed out of the room, the door slamming behind me.“Any news about my supposed Luna?” I asked Patrick while walking to my room. “No. Nothing for now,” he replied.“I need her. I need a worthy, mate!”
