Chapter 2 (Killers in the woods)Emma's point of viewHe advanced in my direction, sniffing the air around him. He had his wolf, so sniffing my damn body out wasn't going to be a problem for him, was it?With a surge of adrenaline coursing through my veins I did what anybody else would have done; run!He morphed into a huge gray wolf, his gray coat reflecting the moon's serene glow. Branches whipped against my skin, but I didn't care. I needed to save my butt from his jaws. I could hear him growling in a low tone. I knew damn well that I couldn't outrun him. He was a damn alpha! Which means that he was superior in everything; hunting, racing, killing instinct. His jaw snapped behind me a couple of times, but I kept propelling myself forward by occasionally swinging my arms. This was a matter of life and that, I certainly doubt that I would live to tell the tale. I jumped over the fallen branches,my chest burning. My legs protested that I should stop, but my instincts overwhelmed me.Everywhere turned blurry as I ran deeper into the forest, trying my best to outrun the Alpha. I dared not stop. I'd keep on running till my last breath, I wouldn't give in—at least not that easily. Suddenly, my ankle twisted and I fell on the floor, pain coursing through my veins. I could hear his soft paws pounding on the damp earth as he ran in my direction.“f**k!” I groaned in pain, tears freely falling down my eyes. Even if I died in the woods, my parents wouldn't care as they had been looking for a method to throw me out of the home.I dragged my broken leg into the water body, diving deep to the shallow floor and holding my breath. He stood at the river bank, his crimson eyes bright enough, rage burning in it. He sniffed the air one more time and groaned in frustration at losing my scent. Thankfully, I had worn body spray before walking to the woods, I wouldn't bother meeting him again.Immediately he left, I slowly rose my head above the water, gasping for breath. I was lucky this time, next time? I don't think I'll make it this far. My vision blurred, tears dripping from it as I rose from the floor, my heartbeat increasing. I tried to walk, but the pain was unbearable and all I could do was sob. This wasn't a life. I was just a creature made for fun by the Luna goddess. I crawled out of the woods, dragging my legs, unfazed by the thorns which pierced my skin, my blood staining the earth. Luckily, I made it home. I slowly crawled into my room through the window and closed it. A glance at the window, it was midnight. My room was just as I left it, no sign of any one in there. No one cared actually if I was alive or dead. Well, that's what you get when you are nothing but a burden to the family. I stretched my hand across the night stand, picking a tablet and gulping it in. I shut my eyes, the horrifying scene playing continuously in my head: the helpless man begging for his life and the hooded man Killing him without any emotion.I sat upright on the bed, my knees close to my chest. Sweat dripped down my forehead as I remembered the Alpha's cold gaze. He looked terrifying, but there was something I felt when I stared at his crimson eyes. It looked as if I was lost in his deadly eyes. I felt like telling papa what I saw, but what need would it be? I was useless to the family, they'd discard the information and mock me for hallucinating.I heaved a sigh, slowly closing the curtains as I rested my head on the wall, shutting my eyes and slowly drifting into the world of unconsciousness. The rays of the sun peeked through the window, resting on my eyelid. I stretched on the bed, a sigh escaping my lips. I sat up on the bed, slowly putting my headphones on and humming the lyrics of one of the most famous werewolf hip-hop stars. Her songs always revolved around disappointment, pain and heartbreak; the emotions I could relate to. Just as I was getting deep into the song, the door yanked open, my mother standing on the threshold, her face pale; devoid of every emotion.I slowly removed my head phone, forcing a smile up on my lips.“Hello, mother,” I whispered, trying to sound as casual as possible.“Get dressed and meet us at the dining room for breakfast,” she said, her voice leaving no room for argument. She glared at me one last time before walking out and slamming the door. Weird. First time I got invited to breakfast. I took a deep breath, throwing my feet at the edge of the bed and standing. Luckily, the tablet I took last night relieved me of pain. I strode down the stairs, a hint of suspicion in my steps. Something wasn't right, I could tell. The dining room was all set, Emily; my twin sister was seated close to my father, a smirk on her lips which sent shivers down my spine. “Sit,” my father ordered. I swallowed hard, my heart beat quickening. Why were they being all that nice? Did they find out that I sneaked out of the house? Had they seen the Alpha? Different questions swirled in my head, plunging me deeper into the sea of confusion. I slowly sat on the chair, opposite my mother. “Eat,” my mother ordered, her voice cold. I stole a glance at my father before I began twirling the pasta with my fork, my stomach churning with unease.“I bridged a contract with the Alpha of the black glow pack,” my father began, his gaze fixated on me. I stole a glance at him, slipping the fork in between my lips and savoring the taste of the pasta.“Okay?” I said in confusion. Why was everyone's attention on me?“The Black glow's Alpha is a formidable opponent, and shouldn't be messed with. Sadly,I got myself entangled in this mess,” he continued, his eyes never leaving my skin, making me seethe in discomfort. “I don't mean to interrupt but…” the words barely left my lips before he raised his hand, silencing me. I swallowed hard, not sure if it was my sanity or my words.“You don't speak when your father speaks,” my mother chirped in,her words more like a warning than an advice.“Sorry,” I squeaked, my gaze averting to Emily who had a cruel grin on her face. My gaze shifted to Jack, he wasn't even interested in the conversation as all his attention was fixed on the pasta. “The Alpha of black glow pack is coming for my head and wouldn't spare anybody here,” my father continued, a hint of seriousness in his voice. He checked to see if there was any sign of emotion on my face. “In order to avert this, I seeked the help of Alpha Davon and he promised to help,” he said.My heart sank immediately when I heard the name. They were kidding, right? How would they seek the help of a murderer? Why? “He will definitely help only if we meet his demand,” his tone dead serious.“Which is?” I asked,my eyes locking with my dad's.“That you become his…bride.”
