LEAH I woke up feeling like I was floating, the kind of lightness that only comes after a perfect dream—or maybe, a perfect night. I yawned and reached to the side but Damien wasn’t beside me, and for a second, I felt a flicker of disappointment. But then I spotted the note propped on his pillow, his handwriting slanting across the paper like he had written it in a hurry. *Good morning, my love. Stepping out to help make breakfast. Don’t leave the bed if you feel any pain. I will be back soon.* I laughed softly, shaking my head. Damien was impossibly thoughtful, to the point of being ridiculous.
