Present
"Alex!"
"Alex I know you hear me." my best friend Anna, says from behind me, but I continued to ignore her as I grabbed the rest of my things and headed to go catch the bus, since normally I ride with her but we're not currently speaking.
"Come on you can't stay mad at me forever, you love me too much and I said I was sorry."
You might be wondering why we are fighting and, even if you're not, I'm still going to tell you. It's really simple, she slept with my sister behind my back. The only reason I found out was because mom told me to go call Ashlyn for dinner and I walked on them. That was two weeks ago and we're still not talking.
"Pleaseeeee Alex I need my best friend" she says, dragging out the 'e', making me sigh and turn around to face her.
"Are you going to tell me why? Why, Ashlyn and more importantly, why didn't you tell me, I thought I was your best friend." I said to her, pouting my lips.
You are and I can't tell you because I promised I wouldn't tell anyone until she wanted to", she tells me truthfully.
"Fine, but I have to go. My mom and dad are having dinner for their anniversary."
"I know I was invited" she says, catching me off guard. Mom and dad never allow anyone but us to be at their anniversary dinner and the only people we're allowed to invite are our mates. It's at that point that my brain connects the dots and I widen my eyes in realization.
"YOU'RE MATES" I yelled and she widened her eyes, realizing what she said.
"Alex, please you can't tell anyone." she begged me and, for as long as I've known Anna, she never begs anyone, so she must be scared my sister will reject or something if someone finds out.
"I won't, I promise", I tell her and she breathes a sigh of relief. "But my parents are going to know if they don't already". With that, I began to walk towards the parking lot as she followed me.
"What makes you think they know," she sounds terrified and, to be honest, if I wasn't born into my family but was a mate I would be terrified. My parents are scary, what with one being and Alpha and the other a witch.
"You'll find out tonight" I smirked at her and got in the car. It only takes ten minutes to get home and soon we're pulling up in front of our Packhouse. It had to be remodeled due to the large number of wolves we took in after the war that killed the former King and his family. When they died and the new King took over, people began turning rogue just to get away from him and survive. He's said to be the most ruthless Alpha to exist and right behind him is Alpha Xavier of The Fire Moon Pack. They're both cold-hearted and have no care for innocent people. It's said that King Malcolm took the women he wanted even if they had a mate and if they're mates opposed, he r***d them in front of them before slitting their throats. I personally wonder if they are related in some way. Our pack is The White Moon Pack and because of all the new members we accepted, we grew so fast over night we became the third largest pack, right behind the royal pack, which is just basically a pack of rogues, and The Fire Moon Pack.
"Hey Earth to Alex" Anna said, waving her hand in front of my face.
"Huh..yeah"
"Are you okay" she asks me.
"Yeah, just thinking, I'll go ahead, you should go find Ashlyn", I tell her and I see a light blush cover her cheeks and normally I would tease her, but right now I need to speak to my dad about something I remember overhearing. I turned back to the pack house and went inside. The moment I entered the house, I almost ran into someone. I look up and see my little brother Ashton, the next Alpha, when dad retires, since I don't have a wolf. He just turned 18. He has jet black hair like dad and green eyes like me and mom, he easily towers over me. He stands at 6'3, while I'm only 5'8.
"Hey" he greets me.
"Hey, have you seen dad around" I asked him. Study is all he says before heading to the kitchen.
"Thanks" I said back while heading upstairs knowing he heard me. I reach the oak office doors in no time and knock waiting for him to answer, but he doesn't get a chance to as the door swings open, revealing my mother. She stands at 5'5 with brown hair that I inherited from her and Emerald green eyes that I also got from her.
"My baby" mom says as she pulls me into a bone-crushing hug and for her not to be a werewolf, she sure is strong.
"Mom" I greet, "cant breathe" I gasp out as she squeezes tighter.
"Amelia let the boy go before you kill him", dad jokes and mom lets go finally to playfully slap his arm, but I don't find any of this funny, she almost KILLED me!
"Oh relax baby I'm sorry I just forget my own strength sometimes" she apologizes and I just nod.
"So, son, what made you come to my office," dad asks. " You never came here willingly before," he adds as an after thought. The more I thought about it, the more I realized he was right. I haven't been here willingly since I found out I wouldn't get my wolf and that was four years ago.
"I came because I had some questions" I stated truthfully, unsure of what he would say. He just walks over to his desk and sits in his chair giving me his go-on nod. I walk over and sit across from him while mom sits next to me.
"It's about the prophecy", I tell him, looking down at the floor, not sure how he would respond because, for some reason, the prophecy is a touchy subject for my parents, but I don't know why.
"It's not real, you know that" he said to me with the coldest voice I've ever heard him use, he was always so warm and loving to us that this actually scared me a lot. I stared at him wide-eyed and shaking, when he saw the state I was in his eyes softened.
"I'm sorry Alex. I didn't mean to scare you" he apologizes "but why are you asking"
I overheard some pack members speaking about it and wanted to know more". I tell him honestly.
"But baby, the prophecy is just a myth, honey" my mom says, speaking up for the first time. Even as they told me this, I couldn't help but feel that they weren't being completely honest with me. I just let it go and excused myself by telling them I had homework to do. Once I left, I headed to the library upstairs on the third floor. If they won't tell me the truth then I'll find out for myself.
