Blurb

As a newcomer to the entertainment industry, I found my way in through a unique ability to read people's minds, despite never having had a passion for this field. Everything I do is driven by the need to ensure my father's survival. In my most vulnerable moments, I encountered him—a charismatic and versatile superstar. He possesses an appealing exterior, exuding both charm and gentleness. Yet, intriguingly, my mind-reading ability fails when it comes to him. For reasons I can't quite grasp, I capture his interest, and he hints at wanting me as his mistress to help me achieve my goals. I know a bit about his complex romantic history; he shies away from commitment and entanglements. Selling myself for money is something I could never accept. Yet, life doesn’t always unfold as we hope. How can I escape when my heart is already in turmoil?

First Encounter
I still remember the first time I saw him; it was as if he were the sun at the center of a galaxy, radiating light that drew everything in. Tyler Anderson stepped down from the RV, flanked by his manager and assistant, with a dozen security guards creating a path through the throng of excited fans. The air buzzed with their enthusiastic shouts, filling the otherwise quiet five-star hotel. Tyler was a dazzling star in film, television, and music, boasting countless awards and accolades. Rachel had told me earlier, “He debuted as a teenage idol at eighteen, skyrocketed to fame overnight, transitioned to acting in his twenties, and started his own film company by twenty-five. By thirty, he had won Best Actor at every major domestic film festival. He’s an unparalleled superstar in the country, ranked third on the young wealthy list. He rarely takes on TV dramas, except for the scripts he truly loves. You’re incredibly lucky to land the lead role in his first TV series in five years.” As a newcomer to the entertainment industry, I knew my looks were average among the countless beauties vying for attention, and my acting skills were nothing extraordinary. The only reason I found myself here was my peculiar gift for reading people's thoughts. As Tyler walked past, I caught a glimpse of his face behind the dark lenses of his sunglasses—his lips curled into a faint, teasing smile. Rachel nudged me, her voice urgent. “Come on, cheer up. Their impression of you is crucial. These people can decide your fate with just a flick of their fingers.” Leading me into the conference room, Rachel pointed out Tyler, who was engaged in conversation with the director while his manager stood by, a hint of wariness in her eyes as we entered. “Good to see you again, Stacy. This is my newly signed actress, Eli Williams,” Rachel greeted his manager warmly. “Long time no see, Rachel. I thought you’d stopped taking rookies,” Stacy replied, her calm demeanor belying her inner judgment. "She’s barely passable in looks, save for her eyes." I could hear her thoughts. Rachel smiled, undeterred. “We found her through a talent show. She’s a fast learner; you’ll see.” “Looks like you two already know each other,” the director interjected. “Tyler, this is our lead actress, Eli.” I could sense Stacy’s surprise, even if her face remained a mask of professionalism. Strangely, I couldn’t hear Tyler’s thoughts at all. When I glanced at him, his gaze met mine—deep and probing, like an ancient well. I felt myself teetering on the edge of his intensity and quickly looked away, flustered by the silence. As the meeting droned on, I began to lose focus, my mind drifting as I worried about navigating the days ahead without my usual insight into Tyler’s thoughts. It wasn’t until Rachel nudged me that I realized everyone had taken their seats at the table. After discussing the script, Director Chen turned to us. “Tyler, you and Eli should get to know each other better. You both have substantial roles, and most of your scenes involve affection, so it’s best to build some rapport before filming starts.” With that, he exited the room. “Sorry, ladies, I need to have a word with Tyler,” Stacy said, leading him to a corner of the room. Though they spoke in hushed tones, I caught snippets of their conversation. “She has no standing, and I haven’t seen any exceptional talent in her to co-lead this drama with you. I’ll talk to the producer; we need to replace her. She’ll drag you down.” The sting of truth cut deep—I knew I was no match for Tyler’s star power. “Do a background check on her. I want to know who’s behind this,” Tyler replied, irritation lacing his words. “Sure!” Stacy said as she left, Rachel trailing behind, asking her for a favor. Meanwhile, Tyler approached me. “Is this your first time acting?” His deep voice held a note of skepticism. “Besides a few minor roles, this is my first proper television series,” I replied. With just the two of us in the room, a sense of calm enveloped me, drowning out the chaotic thoughts of others. Only Tyler’s quiet voice remained. “Are you seeing anyone at the moment?” His question caught me off guard. “Sorry, what do you mean?” I stammered. He met my gaze with impatience. “You can be honest with me, no judgment. I just need to know who’s behind this arrangement.” “Nobody. I got the role through an audition,” I answered, hoping to convey the truth. My ability to read Director Chen’s intentions had helped me secure this part. It was clear he didn’t fully trust my answer. His demeanor shifted, and I sensed his interest waning, his expression growing distant. “Well, I’ll head back to my room to rest.” He stood, his long legs exuding a mature charm. “See you tomorrow!” I hurried to stand, accidentally bumping into the table leg and stumbling toward him. His warmth enveloped me as his hand met my back, sending an electric jolt through me. “Be careful,” he said, a subtle smile breaking through his earlier reticence. His tone had softened, leaving me momentarily speechless.
