After five whole days of travelling in the seas, they saw a deserted island and docked there. It will be a safe time to let the injured crew heal fully and repair the Raven from its slight damages from the war a few days ago. Almost half of the crew got injuries and twenty of them are severely injured. They were so thankful that they found a stream nearby for their water supply. The captain was still ill since so much gun powder have infected his wound.
Thalia and Garett were the ones who were in-charge of the whole crew. Some of the men gathered herbs and medicinal plants for the faster healing of the crew members. Thalia also helped Jim in administering and attending the patients.
“Missy, we’ll be running out of linens soon. We always change their gauze because you told me so.” Jim was worried about the supply of bandages for the crew and the captain. But Thalia just smile and said.
“No worries doctor. Let me handle the situation, we will not get short of linens. You must continue to change the bandages so that the wounds would not be infected Collect all the linens you used as bandages on patients and I will ask others to do some laundry. It just needs a little bit cleaning." Thalia assured Jim.
And so they began collecting almost ten basketful of used linens. Thalia asked fifteen of the men on standby to carry the linens to the stream and they began washing the linen strips so that it will be used again after it dries out.
They stayed there for two weeks more before almost all of the crew healed, though some of them was still recovering but the captain was well now and he decided that they need to dock on the next port of their destination. It will take them almost four months to reach there.
“We need to get moving. We can’t waste so much time. The harvest season is fast approaching. I don’t want my goods be damaged. Or we cannot sail for the whole year round next time.” Captain Rodriguez said with finality.
“Can we reduce the time travel Captain?” asked Thalia. In the 21st century with the use of the Black Eagle, four months is such a long time to reach the target port. It will only take at least a month or two.
“We can, if the wind picks up the sails. And we can reach there by three months.” The captain said. And she loudly sighed. But at least that will lessen their time travel. She’ll just pray that the winds pick up their sails.
Early next morning they started to travel. Luckily, the winds were strong enough to hasten the ship’s movement. Some of the crews set out a line to catch fish while on their way. Thalia never stayed at the small room she considered hers. She tried to ask for some fine fabric so she can make comfortable clothes instead of those long gowns.
“What’s the matter miss? Do you dislike the style of the gown? But it suits you perfectly.” Garett spoke and he seems puzzled. Well, the gown did really fit her perfectly but it was way out of her style. She was uncomfortable with those heavy clothes.
“It’s just out of my style Garett. I prefer pants rather than skirts. I mean, since I have trained to be a Captain of the Black Eagle. Not that I never wore gowns in my whole life, but it can be counted on my fingers.” She started to sew pajamas, trousers and t-shirts.
“I never knew that you sew well Captain Carter. You make a fine seamstress.” Garett was amazed while seeing her sewing the fabric.
“I learned a lot on my own. Well, I watch YouTube videos regarding sewing since my mom died when I was a teen. And my best friend Ellie cannot do that well too. So, I was the one doing repairs on my clothes as well as hers.” She explains as she pulled the needle out of the cloth.
“Are you living on the same house?” Garett was curious about her life before so he was attentive as ever.
“Well yes most of the time. I stay on her place rather than our big mansion. She is the only one I have after all. We became friends’ way back elementary years. She was the genius one you know. Our classmates always avoided her but I didn’t. They say that she was an abnormal child but she isn’t. She just wants to become a scientist so she always experiments on things. She even gave me her latest inventions.” She looked at Garett and saw that he was still listening. She asked for garters.
“What will you do with those?” Garett’s forehead knotted as he asked.
“I will make underwears. You don’t seem to have it here.” He nodded and handed out a roll of garter. It was a fine afternoon and obviously chit chatting was great. The captain was in-charge of the men and the ship.
“So tell me about your way of living here. You know, I need to get a life and adapt in this era. I think it will be impossible for me to go back on the 21st century.”
“Well you see Captain Carter. Our main living here is by fishing, hunting, raising animals, and farming. We use horses to travel in land and most of the time, we walk. We travel on boats on the sea. We use firewood and furnace to cook. We use jars for storing food and water and pots for cooking. We live on houses made of bricks and wood. Very far from what you have way back.”
“Well, I can seem to manage. I learned all of those in the survival training. But, I will miss my life before. All the people that surrounded me daily and the old ways.” She said while reminiscing her life before she got here.
“I’m sorry about that miss. Fate really plays all the time. But you will survive. I am sure that the captain will not let you get harmed. He will not let you off his circle.” Garett spoke as he left. Leaving Thalia behind wondering of what he just said.
