Chapter 8

1021 Words
Three weeks have already passed but Thalia was still locked inside the room. She never saw the Captain or his first mate. Only Jim and random men who gives her supplies of daily needs came to her room. But one afternoon, she was taking a nap when suddenly the whole ship shook and wobble. And that made her instantly snap in alert mode. Men all over the halls shouted and their footsteps were heavy and in haste. As if a great chaos broke from the upper deck but she was oblivious. She tried to open her door and luckily, it was unlocked. She sneaked up slowly to the sundeck and she crawled when she saw that war was happening. Flames, smoke and loud booming sounds were the only thing she noticed. She too noticed another ship about 300 yards away from the Raven. She roamed her vision to search around the area. Then she found the Captain near the wheel with his first mate who was the one who drives the ship. The continuous exchange of deathly blows rang in the air that ruined the silence of the fair afternoon. And soon, one by one, men got injured by the raining lightened arrows and bullets. They all groaned in pain and fall. She started to move towards the place where the captain was. Trying all her might to avoid any harm going there. William noticed Thalia moving towards his direction. He cursed in the back of his mind. She will just be in a great trouble now that they are facing great danger in war of the sea. “What are you doing up here? Go down!” He shouted at the top of his lungs for her to hear him amidst the explosions. He grabbed her to duck when he saw a lightened arrow going towards their direction. “s**t! I told you to stay under but you are always want to be up here. What’s wrong with you? Can’t you understand a simple instruction? We will all die because of you! You’ll just hinder us! Now stay below and never come out until I say so.” He commanded the lady. But she did not listened to him. “I was just curious because I am locked down there for three whole freaking and hellish weeks. Being oblivious of what is happening around. There is nothing wrong with me getting curious and you will not die because I am here. I can handle myself.” “Just this once listen to me…” Captain William halted in his speech mid-way when he noticed his first mate got shoot by a lightened arrow. They both got to his side. “Garett! Are you still alright?” William asked the man that was now on the floor. Blood dripping on his shoulder towards the arm. He just nodded but they know he can’t operate now. But the Captain needs to command and drive the ship. Thalia has no choice left but to butt in or they will all die. “Garett! Help Jim to get the injured crew down. Make sure they all get cured. I will help the captain up here. Don’t let a single one of them die. Understood?” She commanded the first mate. “Who are you to command my crew woman?” his stares shoot daggers at her but she did not change her mind either. “I am Captain Carter of Black Eagle and I am going to be your first mate and ally right now. Now, do as I told you and stop whining like a child. Ok? Now, drive.” The captain has no choice but to drive the ship since no one else would do that. “What weapons do you have Captain?” she asked while studying the over-all features of the opponent warship. At least she can decide on what strategy will she do to make a blow. “Cannon balls and oil.” He answered as he manipulated the ship. Thalia shouted a command to the crew of the Raven. And they seem to listen to her commands. “Stay hidden as much as possible! It will be hard for their archers to shoot you. Get all the cannon balls ready and shoot it at the back of the warship! And the small boats, get it ready. Spread oil around the shipboard of the warship! Now!” As soon as the men heard the signal they all did their respected tasks. Only steps coming from the underneath of the ship could be heard. They positioned the cannon balls angling it towards the tail of the warship. She could see the tiny boats scattering oil on the sea as fast as they can. It was actually far and the Raven will be safe if she blows the opponent ship. “Light the cannon balls! Make sure it will hit the target.” An ear-splitting explosion followed after the crew fired the cannon balls. She could see their ship had chunked on the back portion. She asked one of the crews to lit the oil on the waters as soon as the men on the tiny boats got out of the water and soon the ocean waters turned into sea of fire. But before the warship exploded, they have successfully shot her on the shoulder with the lightened arrow and the captain was shot too by a gun. She smiled as she heard the loud boom. And that means that she had successfully blown the opponent warship. “Damn! Game over for you baby!” She said and winced. She saw a knife and cut the fabric of her dress. She managed to pull the arrow out of her shoulder. She winced in pain and she tied the cloth around her shoulder. She noticed that the captain was now kneeling on the floor trying to drive the ship. She hurriedly went to his side and Jim rushed to their side too. She let the other crew carry the captain below to get the bullet out of his chest. She drove the ship that day. The captain still cannot drive. Luckily, Garett’s wound was just shallow so he drove the next day and she slept the whole day.
