I Caught Her

(Lord Russiavo's Pov) The sting of anger coursed through me, a relentless fire that fueled my determination. Maye had wounded me, and I could not allow such an affront to go unanswered. My mind was occupied with a fierce rage as I summoned my men to pursue her. "Find her!" I spat at my men, my voice dripping with venom. "Search every corner of this cursed house if you must, but find her!" I commanded, trying to adhere the pain from my wound as the specialist in the house helped me nurse it. Frustration surged within me. I had never for once thought that the sly girl wasn't really so weak. She also got her way. But then, I felt sorry for her. Maye couldn't suddenly escape from me. Someone I wasted a lot of effort would run away just like that? Impossible. I was ready to do all I can to make sure she doesn't find her refuge. She had dared to cross me, and I was hell-bent on retribution. I waited patiently for news from my men as I stood at the window to the room where we had both fought ourselves, thinking of why the search was taking too long. It made me wonder if Maye had finally found her route from the auction house or she had disappeared into thin air. When I tried to reach my men the other time, they relayed that the search was still going on. But that wasn't my problem. I was pissed off, I needed to see her under my feet instantly without any excuse. However, I feel I have really looked down on her. She was the first person to have threatened me this way and it made me realize that truly, she was the daughter of Vikram. "What did you say?" I questioned my right hand man, Alex in rage as he told me Maye, the little brat still hadn't been found after their long search in the auction house. Where the hell had she gone?! Does that mean she had successfully left the auction house? How possible was that? Alex answered, "We couldn't even find any trace of her footprints." "f**k!" I cursed and my fist hit the slab beside me in anger. I shouldn't be getting excuses like this. Maye wasn't a needle nor was she a god to disappear. I took slow strides towards my loyal men who stood in grim silence, their heads all bowed as no one dared to look at me, not even my right hand man. "Foolish! Stupid! You all know nothing!" I snapped at them since they were the only people I could vent my anger on. I let out a soft groan to think that I was going to lose Maye just like that. Where could she have gone? How fast was she able to get away from even the auction house? It was applauding. Yet, if she must have sought refuge somewhere nearby. It couldn't be anywhere else than the forest surrounding the auction house. She could have found her way into the scrub if eventually she was no more around us. "Alex!" I called with my voice vibrating in fury. "Yes boss," he replied almost immediately and came forward to where I stood. "Prepare the power bike, we're going after her in the forest," I ordered and I watched him bow his head before taking his leave with my other men. I still wasn't satisfied, I shouldn't be searching for her before I get her on my fingertip. Left to me, I wouldn't be so bothered but Maybe triggered something in me that I didn't mind joining my men in looking for her. Moments later, we were already scouring through the surroundings, our torches piercing the darkness as we hunted for Maye. The moon hung high in the sky, casting an eerie glow on the scene. Every alley, every hidden corner, we left no stone unturned in our relentless pursuit. But as minutes turned to hours, despair gnawed in my heart. It seemed as though Maye had vanished into thin air. "Where could she be?" I kept questioning myself yet no response was coming. I was left to discover the answer myself which wasn't what I was supposed to be doing. Just then, Alex trotted his bike forward to catch up with me. "Boss, remember the old woman? The lady on the other side of the wood?" he asked and in my mind instantly darted to Lady Gwen. The old lady that had been helping me out. I had almost forgotten about her. "Yes. What about her?" I returned my own question but before Alex could mouth a word, I came to the realization of what he was trying to pass across. "She has Maye in her custody?" Alex nodded and my head almost exploded in victory. Finally! My prey was back into my hands. I knew Maye couldn't have run away just like that. She was so dumb that she had to end up in the house of the woman I love the most, Lady Gwen. Lady Gwen had been living in the forest for quite some time and the day I knew her was the day one of my rivals was trying to run away from me after cheating on me. He ended up in her house and I had caught him there. Since then, the woman has been so useful to me. If anyone was to spend a night in her house, whether they were my chase or not, she was always giving me the information. I grinned at Alex who also had a sweet smile plastered on his face. He knew what I like and I was glad to finally have Maye in my hands. We didn't wait a second before we came to the old abode nestled in the shadow of an ancient oak tree. Our arrival came as an abrupt intrusion into the calmness of the night. I got down from my bike and in no time, I was already pounding on the door with a resounding thud, my patience already worn out. Moments later, the door creaked open, revealing the frail, wizened woman. Her eyes, milky with age, bore into mine with a mixture of happiness and satisfaction. "What business do you have here at this hour?" Lady Gwen asked and I knew exactly the answer she needed. "I'm sorry, old lady. I've not really gotten time to visit," I pleaded, trying to sound so pleasing as ever. She made a look that meant she wasn't pleased with my apologies but I was lucky when she uttered, "She's asleep. Treat her well. She doesn't seem like a bad person." Alex and I walked into the room and I giggled when I saw Maye sleeping peacefully on the bed in the room the old woman had provided. At that point, I had stopped raging and I had no idea why I didn't storm to her even when she had hurt me. Why was I being careful with her? "Make sure she knows I'm not the betrayal," Lady Gwen uttered and I nodded as I drove Maye away without her consent.
