Chapter 10

1178 Words
Alexander Pov I quietly drank beer in the corner of the bar owned by Edzel, my best friend. Actually, I am also a co-owner of this bar. The two of us started this business because we both loved nightlife when I was studying college abroad. We graduated together and returned to the country. We opened a bar so that when we want to drink or relax during our busy schedules, we don't have to look for an open and uncrowded bar. But I let Edzel manage the bar alone because I have many responsibilities on my shoulders. Since I returned to the country, I have been managing the businesses that my mom used to handle. Now I am the CEO of Reed Conglomerate. It operates in various sectors such as real estate, banking, and many others. Maybe the kind of lifestyle I have is the reason why Elara didn't stop until she succeeded in her plan of becoming my wife. But why did she agree to the contract agreement that I wanted? This is what bothers my mind, so I decided to go to the bar and drink to ponder it. "It seems like you have a deep problem, Alex. Didn't Elara agree to the contract agreement you wanted?" Edzel asked as he sat down on the empty seat across from me. He brought a small bottle of beer from the bar and placed it on the table. I didn't inform him that I would be coming today, so even though I've been here for a while, he only approached me now. Maybe he noticed my presence just now. I shook my head at him. "I don't have a problem. I'm drinking as a celebration because I got what I wanted. Elara signed the contract agreement. After six months, we will both divorce. His forehead furrowed and disbelief was evident on his face. "Elara agreed quickly? Why would she do that? She went to great lengths to marry you, then she would agree to that contract agreement? Something is wrong. Or maybe you offered her a huge amount, that's why she agreed to divorce you after six months?" I shook my head at him again. I picked up the bottle of beer and drank directly from it. "Yes. She signed it just like that. She didn't ask me for money in exchange for her signature on the contract agreement. And it made me confused." "Women. They really think too complicatedly," commented Edzel. "But let it be. Don't you want that, so you won't have to worry about breaking up with her after six months? Unless..." My friend deliberately left his sentence hanging and gave me a doubtful look. "Unless what?" I asked him with a furrowed brow. "Unless you like her," Edzel concluded his earlier statement. I chuckled softly and shook my head. "If I liked her, I wouldn't be divorcing her." "I remember when we were still studying. The two of you were close to each other. But that was ruined that night. I thought you liked her back then, so I was surprised when you embarrassed her in front of our schoolmates." I took a deep sigh. Yes. Edzel was right. I used to like Elara. But that was when I hadn't discovered her true plan. When I didn't yet know what kind of woman she was. Elara was smart and very beautiful back in high school. And I will admit now that she became even more beautiful and her s*x appeal increased. But none of her beauty appeals to me anymore because I know her true colors. "Let's not talk about that woman anymore. Let's just drink and celebrate because that's why I came here." I picked up the bottle of beer again, drank the remaining contents, and then opened another bottle of beer. "Just chill, man. Let's just drink but not get drunk," he remarked to me when he saw what I did. "Yeah, right. Cheers for my freedom after six months!" We raised our bottles before drinking together. "By the way, Alex, don't you have any contact with Isabella? Hasn't she contacted you since she left without saying goodbye?" I was momentarily speechless when I heard his question. Isabella is my ex-girlfriend. A year ago, she suddenly left and never showed up again after breaking up with me through a phone call. I don't know what happened to her, and until now, I'm still waiting for her to call and talk to me. I want to hear her explanation for why she did this to me. She became my girlfriend after our graduation. Even though she was somewhat of a nagger and spoiled, our relationship lasted for many years. "Nope. Until now, I'm still hoping she'll show up and explain to me why she broke up and just disappeared like a bubble," you replied after a few minutes of silence. "I'm only saying this now, Alex. Honestly, I didn't like Isabella as your girlfriend. I didn't like seeing that she wanted to have you under her thumb. When I found out she broke up with you, I wasn't sad. I don't know what she had that made you stay in a long relationship with her despite her bad attitude," Edzel confessed. This time, he gave his opinion about Isabella. And it's only now that I learned he didn't like the girl for me. "Maybe because sometimes we shared the same habits," I answered him with a shrug. Edzel just shook his head and didn't mention the name of either of the two women we talked about again. I didn't realize I got too drunk, so Edzel just took me home because I couldn't drive anymore. "Thanks for the ride, bro," I said to him groggily when his car stopped in front of my house. "I'll take you to your room. You might sleep outside the gate because of drunkenness." "No need. I can manage," I objected as he was about to open the door on his side to get out of the car. "But—" "No more but. I'm drunk but I can still go up to my room." I didn't wait for his answer and immediately got out of his car. I have a key to the gate, so I didn't ring the doorbell to avoid disturbing my household staff, who are surely resting at this time of night. When Edzel saw that I had entered the gate, he only then drove his car away. As soon as I entered the house, I immediately went up the stairs. I wanted to reach my room to lie down. I felt like my surroundings were spinning. I was close to my room when I suddenly stopped walking and was stunned to see a goddess standing at the door looking at me. Damn! Because of the drunkenness, I'm seeing all sorts of things. I admit that I was drunk that's why I am hallucinating now. Though the goddess was just a hallucination, I was still dazed when she slowly walked toward me while smiling.
