Elara Pov
I was just staring at the contract agreement in my hands while Alexander raised an eyebrow as he looked at me.
"Yes. It's a contract agreement," he confirmed. "I told you that I won't let you have your way. Sign it now so we don't have to talk much more. Don't tell me you don't want to sign that contract agreement because you want to be Mrs. Reed forever?" Alexander shook his head as if saying that it was impossible to happen.
I secretly took a deep sigh. It's not that I don't want to sign the contract agreement he gave. I'm just thinking that I already signed a contract agreement with his mother and now I'm going to sign a contract agreement with him. Is this really how the mother and son are? They make everything happen through a contract agreement?
Instead of answering Alexander, I read the conditions contained in the contract agreement. My forehead creased after reading it. All the written conditions were in his favor. What about me? What condition is in my favor? None.
I read in clause number three that I am not allowed to interfere with anything or any decisions he makes; clause four states that I also have no right to care about whoever he is with or if he has a relationship with another woman in exchange for living in his house as his wife.
I couldn't help but sneer at what I read. As if I even wanted to live in his house and be his wife. He doesn't know that I already want to run out of his house and go back home, where I live alone and won't have to see his face.
In the final clauses, I hesitated. It was written there that I would agree to divorce him after six months as husband and wife, only on paper. It just came to me that if I divorced him after six months without giving Mrs. Faustina Reed a grandchild, she might sue me for breaching the contract I signed.
But given some thought, maybe Alexander's mother wouldn't sue me because she wouldn't want her son to find out about the agreement between us. As for the money she gave my mom for my dad's medical treatment, I would just save up to return it to her once her son and I got divorced.
"Okay fine. I’ll sign this contract agreement, but I want to add something," I said to her after thinking for a few minutes.
Alexander frowned. "What condition do you want to add?"
"If I don't interfere with all your decisions, especially regarding your relationships, you should do the same for me. And also, you will allow me to stay at my house any time and could go back to this house any time while I am still your wife."
"That's all you want to add? Anything else?" His frown deepened as he looked at me. It seemed like he was wondering why that was the only thing I added to the contract agreement. Maybe he expected me to demand money when we got divorced.
"Yes, as of now. If I think of anything else to add, I'll let you know." I took the pen from the table that he also brought and immediately signed the contract agreement without hesitation. After I signed, he followed and signed the paper too.
"Then it's settled. After six months, we will get a divorce. I will just explain to my mom why we got divorced." He seemed delighted that he got what he wanted.
I didn't respond to what he said; instead, I focused my eyes on the door, waiting for him to step out of the room. A few seconds passed, but Alexander was still standing in front of me as if he had no intention of leaving the room. I couldn't take it anymore, so I glanced at him with an annoyed expression.
"Do you need anything else? If not, maybe you can leave me now. I'm tired and I want to rest," I dismissed him in a cold voice.
Alexander took a deep sigh before shaking his head. I don't know what that shake of his head was for, but I didn't ask him.
"I don't understand you, Elara. You made such a huge effort to marry me, and then, now that we are already married, you just agreed to divorce me easily. What do you really want to happen? If it's money you need, I promise you won't get even a single cent from my family."
"What's wrong with you, Alexander? Isn't this what you wanted? Now that I agreed to divorce you after six months, it seems you're questioning my motive," I snapped at him irritably. He's really hard to understand.
"Whatever your motive is, I will make sure you won't succeed," Alexander warned sternly before leaving the room.
I took a throw pillow that was leaning on the sofa and threw it hard at the door as if Alexander were standing there.
Even though we live in the same house, Alexander and I rarely see each other. Or maybe he's really avoiding me. That's more favorable for me because I don't want to see him either.
I didn't go to the office for three days and just locked myself in my room. I kept myself busy finishing the design that I will enter in the upcoming international contest. The prize for the winner is substantial, and if I secure first place, it would be a big help to pay our debt to Alexander's mother.
After I finished the design, I finally went to my office. My friend greeted me with a smile.
"My best friend is blooming today. Looks like you've been watered," she teased me, and I rolled my eyes in response. "Don't tell me you really went on a honeymoon with Alexander, that's why you only remembered to come to work now?"
"Haha. Very funny," I replied to her and rolled my eyes. She pulled me into her office and sat me down on the long sofa where our clients and potential clients sit.
"Tell me what happened inside Alexander's house. Did you two bite each other? Didn't he end up in the hospital because of your intense rabies?" he asked excitedly.
"You're really crazy, Liam. What do you think I am, a dog full of rabies?" I replied to him, laughing but shaking my head.
"So what really happened? Don't tell me your stay at his house was peaceful?" Now my friend was serious and there was no trace of teasing on his face.
"It was peaceful because since I arrived at his house, I've only seen him once. And that was the day he brought me home," I confessed to him. "And not only that. He made me sign a contract agreement and after six months, we will get divorced."
"What? So you agreed?" When I nodded, his eyes rolled as if he was the one frustrated with my situation. "What about the mission Mother Faustina gave you? She might skin you alive," he added with concern in his voice.
"Of course, I agreed. Why wouldn't I agree to divorce him? I don't like him anymore. I'll just worry about Mrs. Reed when I am close to divorcing her son. What's important now is saving my father's life."
"What if you fall in love with Alexander again, Elara? Would you still agree to divorce him after six months as you both agreed?"
I couldn't respond to my friend's question. It never crossed my mind that I would fall in love with Alexander again. The shame and pain he once gave me were enough. But what if I fall for him again just like what my friend asked?
I quickly shook my head to get rid of that idea. "I will never fall in love with Alexander again, Liam. Mark my word," I confidently replied to my friend.
