Back at the company, Amanda sat at her desk outside Rose’s office and was acting like an injured animal as she gave the returning Rose careful glances. Compared to Rose, who was pretending to be a willful heiress, Amanda seemed to be very pitiful indeed.
"Miss Sommers,” she said timidly as Rose approached, “the documents you asked for are on your desk."
Rose suddenly snapped in reply, "Am I supposed to just go in and look for it myself? Would I have to go back outside to call you in if I can’t find it?"
Amanda was speechless for a moment, then shot up from her chair. She then respectfully opened the door of Rose’s office and said, "A-after you, Miss Sommers."
Watching Amanda act like a frightened fawn, Rose smiled triumphantly and threw her coat on top of her desk.
