Chapter 26One down, one to go
Ross and Drake arrived in Hale to find Derek McLennan, Tony Curtis and their uniformed shadows waiting for them outside the Donovan's home. Ross was perplexed by the fact they weren't inside the house, either questioning or arresting Pete Donovan. Exiting their car, the pair walked quickly to meet up with their colleagues.
“What's happening Derek?” Ross asked as soon as they were in earshot.
“You're not going to believe this, Boss,” McLennan replied. He only referred to Ross as 'Boss' if things were bad.
“Go on, man, spit it out.”
“Pete Donovan is dead, sir.”

“It's true sir. He died six weeks ago, in Walton of all places. I spoke to his widow. Seems our man was in and out of jail for the last few years, usually for handling stolen property or mi
