Golden rays of mid-morning sunshine streamed through the wide expanse of the plate glass window that allowed Detective Chief Superintendent Sarah Hollingsworth a panoramic outlook across the city she helped to protect, with a spectacular view of the Albert Dock, now one of the city's chief tourist attractions. Her top floor office commanded a view that ranked with the finest in the city, but at this particular moment, as she stood staring out at the scene below and beyond the confines of police headquarters, her thoughts were far away from any such consideration.
