ONE: Get me out of here
Marlene's eyes darted to ticking hands of the gold antique clock that sat beautifully on the floral wallpaper of her friend's home. It was only the second time was seeing this house since her friend inherited it from her aunt, and it looked more... Vibrant, different, like she was really observing it for the first time.
"Are you sure you don't want to stick around for dessert? I actually nailed Wendy's recipe this time around, and don't you think it's rude to reject my late aunt's cooking just two months since her passing?" Reed made sure to drag this one out, perhaps guilt would get her vest friend to abandon something as trivial as an appointment with her white sheets and blankets. Why was she so obsessed with maintaining a perfect sleep schedule anyway?
" Cone on, Ree, you know I want you to pack it up! Hannes has been on my ass lately, I can't stand him. If I get less than 5 hours of sleep, you will be serving me Wendy's dishes from prison because I will murder him." Marlene sighed, grabbing her phone from the coffee table before rising from the couch.
" Aww, okay ! Go say goodbye to everyone then. " Reed reluctantly gave up on convincing her to stay, letting her off with one tight hug that left her ribs hurting.
"Bye everyone, early day tomorrow!" Marlene was already holding onto the door handle as she yelled at the rest of her friends who were so deep into conversation, they missed her saying goodbye.
Exactly how she was hoping things would go.
As soon as her red stilettos touched grass, she exhaled exasperatedly.
"Barely made it out of that one!" she pursed her lips as she keyed the door of her lime green sedan and strapped her seatbelt on before starting the car and driving off immediately. Now for her appointment with her lovely, clean, white linen sheets! Sure, the excuse she had given Reed was entirely not false, what was false was only how Reed chose to interpret it.
Her clit throbbed and she nibbled on her bottom lip as she reached a red light. The lack of movement was clouding her mind with thoughts, and she could not stop thinking about the vibrator in her nightstand drawer. She actually couldn't wait. Her lady parts were just crying for her to do something.
Her hand slipped in between her thighs, her thumb grazing her sheer panties gently as she contemplated pulling them down entirely.
You know, leaving them behind would have not been so bad after all. The idea had crossed her mind even though she was really quick to dismiss it.
Her friends could never see her for who she truly is, neither could her family. Most days she felt like she was leading a double life just by virtue of pretending to be somebody that she was not.
The perfect daughter, perfect best friend who is always well put together, always happy and very lucky in life. Marlene had graduated top of her class in high school and left college with very impressive grades. Working for one of the best law firms in the country was bragging rights, and what she had always wanted. Yet here she was, resenting it more than anything.
Never in her wildest dreams could she have imagined that working would be the one thing that makes her feel most lonely. She must have been going through a quater life crisis of some sort. At 25, she was further than she expected to be, but only when it comes to her career.
The rest had gone to s**t.
She was a miserable, bitter woman stuck on her dead ex. A man that never really cherished her and died in a car accident with his head wedged between the thighs of her best friend. Former best friend.
Lola had survived the crash with broken bones and months worth of physiotherapy awaiting her, that is all Marlene knew. She did not want to hear anything else about her or ever speak to her again.
Why was she still in love with him when she was never even sure if how serious her feelings were while they were together?
Distraction... That's what she needed.
She needed to get home already.
At least her personal hell that she calls a job coukd afford her a great apartment to get away from all her nosy friends and prying family members.
The next red light drove her crazy. Why did she have to agree to the ridiculous get together anyway? It did not make her deek any less lonely. If anything, it must have made things worse. Why was she so desperate for her release already?
"f**k this!" Marlene rolled her eyes as she stepped on her accelerator and ignored the red light light that was still in front of her.
Almost instantly, she regretted it. Flashing blue lights and a wailing siren were on her track in seconds.
Really? Why did she have to get so unlucky?
