Is the life of a rogue truly just running around forests, howling at the moon and attacking the good pack folk like savages? Made into a rogue as a child, all Lena wants is to prove there’s more to her story than people believe. Maybe it’s time for a different chapter! But can Lena rewrite her own fate? And can she and her wolf Tala settle their difference long enough to tap into their gifts, make peace with their enemies, and ultimately save the ones they love the most?

Once upon a time.
Once upon a time there was a beautiful she-wolf who worked hard all day, just to bump into her fated mate who sweeps her off her paws and makes her life perfect. The End. “Not quite our story” Tala thought, “our story would go more along the lines of ‘once upon a time there was an beautiful she-wolf trying to lead a nice quiet life but the stupid humans that also live in this city just wouldn’t give her a minutes peace so one day she ripped all of their throats out to teach them to behave!” “Oh Tala you do make me chuckle” Lena thought back to her Wolf trying to settle Tala’s rising bad mood. They both wanted to be home by now but were having to take a large unwanted detour to get there. According to lore each Wolf is handpicked by Moon Goddess to create true harmony and balance within their other half. “sometimes we feel more like opposites” Lena thought to herself as she felt Tala pacing back and forth restlessly in her mind. “Right let’s concentrate, they’re falling behind” Lena prompted her wolf. “Let them, it’s not up to us to educate this whole mundane city!” replied Tala frostily. “They’re targeting us and they’re going to follow us regardless so it’s easier this way, we need to keep up human appearances and we certainly don’t need them following us home!” I reminded the angry wolf. They’d been through this before of course, many times. Growing up in a city had many obstacles, not just as a werewolf, or as a rogue but as a woman. Lena had the advantage over most of her kind, she had been raised as a human, and being street smart is something you learn when you grow up in foster care. Things were different now though. She had Tala. For all their differences they belonged together, and once you get that feeling of belonging it’s impossible not to be changed by it. Tala had taught her so much in the eleven years they’d been together. It almost felt like another life when she thought back to the scared lonely kid she’d been, skipping school, in and out of trouble with the police. You certainly wouldn’t recognise her physically, that first change does that to a person. With her tall athletic body, long legs, perfect posture and confident demeanour that is a calling card of her kind, and certainly turned heads in the human world. Her auburn hair and grey eyes being the only reminder of the person she once was. Lena slowed her pace, letting the human men who were following her catch up. They had been following her for sometime and she was ready to have it over and done with now. She stopped briefly to attend to some stray hairs, tucking them back into the long smooth ponytail which was her signature hairdo. When she started moving again the clicking of her heals sounded louder than ever on the dark street even with the noise of traffic moving past her. These guys were good, she thought, she could hear two of them approaching from behind and knew there was another that had circled down a previous road to cut her off ahead. They had the cool calm manner of men that knew what they were doing and a human woman wouldn’t have stood a chance. They’d probably done this many times before, they probably selected their victims carefully; but this time they’d made a fatal error, they had mistaken a predator for their prey. “Here we go again” Lena and Tala thought to each other at the same time. “Sorry love, do you have the time?” Asked a deep voice as a human male stepped out of an alley and in front of Lena, the darkness obscured his features as he stepped closer-too close for his own good. She instinctively looking startled to keep him thinking he had the upper hand, and then whispered in a velvety tone, “it’s time you confessed your crimes to the police”… for a moment a glazed look came over his stunned face just in time for his friends to catch up. She felt a firm arm roughly grab her from behind and then she was shoved into the darkness of the alley, she let them move her, she also wanting as few witnesses as possible. As she was violently spun around the second man pushed her back up against the wall, pressing his body against hers threateningly but she could recognise the flicker in his eyes despite the sneer, and it said he knew something wasn’t going to plan. “You also want to confess your crimes to the police” she breathed again in a heavenly tone. As with his friend, the man’s face quickly glazed over. He pulled away from her stepping back just as the third man went to strike her. Her reflex’s being so much quicker than his she anticipates a blow to her head and easily deflected it, rage rising to the surface she angrily grabs the pipe in his hands and uses it to pull him close enough to be in range of her abilities. The third man looks stunned as his accomplices break with the plan and all routine and drunkenly wander off the way they came. “Go play in the road” whispered Tala wickedly quickly pushing herself forward to the front and taking control. The man’s eyes glaze over and he lets go of his end of the pipe before stumbling away. “TALA I can’t believe you did that” screamed Lena internally turning away as she hears breaks screeching and a sickening thud behind her. “It always makes things more complicated when you do that!! We can’t leave traces of ourselves!” She snaps, as the smell of blood and smashed brains fills her nostrils, Goddess! he even his insides smell rotten! “And what do you think will happen when those other two get to the police station? ‘IF’ our suggestion even lasts that long that is!” Tala snaps back. “The woman we were stalking told us to confess” she says in an mocking voice. “What then? We have police trying to interview us?! That would be great would it?!?!” “Okey okey you have a point” she reasoned with Tala, “I just worry that we are loosing our grip sometimes”. “Hmph, not me sister, I know exactly how these humans should be treated” Tala scoffed, as Lena smoothed out her jacket and brushed off her hands. As they left the alley there was already quite a few people gathered around the accident, drawn by the noise and the fear of missing out on a spectacle. Lena had a pang of guilt as she could hear the poor truck drivers panicked stuttering voice explaining that the guy walked right out in front of him. He couldn’t stop in time, he just walked out! No one noticed the fashionably dressed 29 year old walking past, her striking auburn hair dyed with red and orange streaks at the ends making her look like a furious flame, her grey eyes world weary and tired.
