Kate went into her junior year thinking that this year would be like all the others; another year she would go unnoticed and un-kissed, again. She had always been the awkward, smart, girl, that most boys seemed to avoid like the plague; being shy and insecure didn't help either. She secretly wished her crush, the hot new neighbor across the street, would notice her and save her from her un-kissed state.
But all that changes when Jackson, her brother Liam's best friend, proposes an arrangement. He'll help her catch Dean's attention in exchange for her help tutoring him in math so he doesn't get kicked off the basketball team.
As the days pass, Jackson's advice helps Kate build more confidence in herself. She even finds herself attending a few house parties, something she never had the confidence to do in the past.
With her newfound confidence, she starts making new friends with other kids who run in the same circle as Dean, Jackson, and her brother Liam. Slowly Dean starts to take notice and even asks her to attend the winter formal with him. Meanwhile, as Jackson spends more and more time with Kate, helping her come into her own, he soon finds himself starting to have feelings for her that go beyond their mentor and tutor relationship. But he doesn't act on them because she is his best friend's little sister.
Kate, never thinking that Jackson would develop feelings for her, is oblivious to Jackson's feelings. Her thoughts still focused only on Dean.
As events unfold Kate finds herself having to choose between her crush and her brother's best friend.
