Rain, the smell of earth as the firmament quenches its taste ,the glistening lights that lets the sky speak and look alive Sani watched from her window as the petals dropped on the glass ,she counted at first until outpour increased and she lost count. she was always in awe of the sight,the quietness all but for the sound of rain drops,it was peaceful, the only time she was ever free,she loved it. The cold season in the Yaruma village was a curse for them but a blessing to Sani,she would always go to the bank by the edge of the village and deep herself into the water,freezing to the others but a soothing feeling to her skin it gave from all the whip aches and burns she got from the villagers, she has been the punching bag for the men who were not in a good mood from their hunt,the women who were in discord with there husbands,boys that picked on her as they had no better training and the girls who didn’t have her back because she didn’t look like them. A knock on the door,no,no,no she laments pulling the cover fully over her head lying still,maybe if she made no sound whoever was there would go away the door opens as boots clamp on the ground the sound nearing her,closing her eyes tight ,she holds her breath,her covers pulled over her head and the sudden grip on her hair makes a low shriek come out of her mouth as the perpetrator shushes her, the crackling sound from the sky muffled her cries as he smacks her right in the face she falls over “why didn’t you come answer the door b***h”he said, holding her neck as he raised her off the floor,her feets barely on the ground,she gasped for air as his hands tightened on her throat,pushing her to the wall with nowhere to go he palmed her breast roughly,he pinches her nipples she screams but his hands muffled her mouth as the sky release another crackling sound. “there's no use in that,no one is coming to save you,you witch”nipping her ears he holds her jaw to the side baring her neck,he sinked his teeth and bite hard,his hand moving up her thighs. she closes her eyes shaking her head in wishful protest but he pays no attention,only squeezes her neck harder and pushes his fingers into her, Her ragged clothes are all she had and underwear was a luxury,the searing pain she was used to but tears still rolled down her eyes, it was her peaceful moment why did he have to come now,gulping as his ragged voice spat continuous insult in her ears, ”worthless,spineless b***h,just like they say your mother was”loosing his belt about to go for the kill “open your eyes and look,look at all you'll ever amount to slut”the perpetrator says Sani opens her eyes staring at him, No she doesn’t want to look,No she's not a slut,pleading and praying earnestly to a being she doesn’t even believe in so all this ends. the doors bangs open . the sudden movement causing a pause as the perpetrator looks up at who interrupted his fun “didn’t anyone teach you to knock Gaius”he lets wasn't down as she crumbles to the ground “this room requires no knocking,it’s a free place for anyone to take a dump”sani looks up at Gaius ,his eyes quickly glancing her way then back to her perpretor “I forgot ,the slut belongs to everyone,why don’t you join in”the perpetrator says to gaius Sani still on the floor wishing she could just disappear “Logan wants you,been looking for you all over”gaius says turning to look at her, The perpetrator stoops low to her and grabs her face “i'll be back slut” “killen”Gaius calls his attention, standing up,killen walks to the door where gaius stands,staring him down “don’t have so much fun without me brother” killen pats Gauis back as he leaves closing the door. gaius rushes to Sani sides,picking her off the ground and sitting her on the bed, “Are you hurt”gaius asks,such a stupid question following what he just witnessed but Sani all buts look at him,avoiding eye contact,he sat beside her she shook her head,looking out the window,the rain had stopped,for the first time she didn't get to watch it end and today of all days “what happened”sani asks “what happened where” gaius furrows his brows tilting his head to look at her “he hates the rain,you all do,but he came amidst it”turning to face him,a great tremor overtook her as tears ran down her cheeks today was the day she chose to be her birthday,ever since she could know the meaning of birthdays,she had asked and everyone told her she didn’t deserve one,she picked this date six years ago to be her birthday since she actually didn’t know when it was,and watching the kids like her then celebrate,she wanted a day like that for herself I mean it's not like she could celebrate it,but it was a date she noticed no one call for her or bothered her,and it was in her favorite season,so it made sense,but Killin ruined that for her today “you need to leave Gaius ,I don’t want your father to come for me next,your brother already suspects”Sani whispers as she tries taking even breaths “but I don’t want to leave you like this”Gaius takes her chin and raises her eyes to meet his “I don’t want to leave you here”his blue eyes bore into hers “you have no choice”she holds his hand pulling it off her chin Gaius looked at her for so many moments then stood up,heading for the door,he opens it turning once again “i'll be back tomorrow “ and then the door shuts Sani buries herself deep in her bed,covers over her head as she rolls the pendant on her neck between her fingers ,sniffing quietly as the tears fall, Sani wakes the next day and resumes duties in the run down side of the village that she lived in,an outcast can't live amongst them,they said,at first she was sad about not having family,she is still sad but she prefers being alone finally eighteen with nothing but more work to do. Gaius sneaks up behind her,making a scary sounds and she jumps ,the plate she was washing falling off her hands.turning to face him with hands on her chest "Gauis"she quickly bent to pick the shards “gaius ,what are you doing here…sir”he bends to her side and helps her “i'm sorry about the other day Sani” “look at me”he says drawing her chin to face him with eyes down she finally raises her eyes to his “I don’t think we can continue this ,your brother already suspects,that’s why he was here yesterday”she tells him looking back down “I do not want your fathers trouble, you shouldn’t be here”moving away from him but gaius grabs her to his chest, “do you trust me” gaius asks “I want us to get married” Sanis' eyes bulges “I just said I didn’t want any problem with your brother worse your father and now you tell me this,” “your father would have my head on a platter with a notion that I bewitched you and the people will take his side because they hate me,I am of no value to them,rather than being dead and I know your father loves you but not enough for this and I know sometimes I hate this life but I don't want to die gaius”sani takes a deep breath ”I have a surprise for you”gaius says pulling out a wrapped clothe from his pocket and hands it to her, Sani looks at him puzzled, “what is it” “open it” she begins unwrapping the clothe little by little and at the sight of what was inside a bright smile broke from her face as she looks up at him “Cake” “your favorite ,chocolate”gaius eyes her,watching as she takes it in her mouth “it's delicious” “sani ,I would not let any harm com to you ,i love you and my father will agree when he sees theres no stopping my love for you," Sani is speechless Gauis looks around the room and walks to where the flowers he picked for Sani sat ,taking a piece ,he goes back to where she stood “Sani,I know you are scared,but you are the most wonderful things to ever happen to me and I want to continue to be by your side everyday for the rest of my life,be my bride "
