"Honey, slow down… mmm…" Vivi moaned, followed by Alex’s moan as he kissed her neck.
"Vivi… I love you so much and I’ve missed you so much. You drive me crazy… to the point where I want to be with you all day long." Through the crack in the door, Mia pressed her lips tightly together. Her vision began to blur as tears streamed down her face unceasingly.
All this time, she had believed herself to be the luckiest woman for marrying the heir to the Miller family, the family that controlled the economic wheel in Genoa. As far as she knew, the Miller family’s business empire spanned shipping exports and imports, international maritime logistics, and even luxury shipyards scattered along the Mediterranean coast.
Mia thought her marriage was harmonious, but all her illusions crumbled tonight. She could no longer support herself and collapsed to the floor, her heart now broken into pieces.
“Am I driving you crazy? Of course, but now you belong to Mia, you’re her husband,” Vivi muttered with a smirk.
“Honey, didn't I tell you over and over? I married Mia solely for her grandfather's inheritance, and today I've quietly and legally transferred that fortune into my name." Alex's voice sounded rushed, as if he were terrified Vivi might throw a tantrum.
Those words made Mia's heart go numb instantly.
An inheritance? So all this time, all of Alex’s attention and sweet promises were just a cover to steal her inheritance?
She bit her lip until it bled, trying to suppress her emotion. However, her emotions only grew stronger, causing the sobs she’d been holding back to escape her lips. The pain now piercing her stomach was the last thing on her mind.
“I know… what if all this time you’ve had feelings for her? You know, I can’t stand seeing you look at her, let alone have a child with her.” Vivi’s voice weakened, it seemed she was about to cry.
Alex laughed, his fingers gently stroking Vivi's hair. “How could I possibly have feelings for that foolish woman? She thinks of nothing but getting my attention, which has made me sick of her.
And I'll make sure she never carries my child, because only the woman I love deserves to bear my children. That’s you, Vivi.”
He kissed Vivi’s forehead gently. Then Alex continued, “That’s why I gave Mia abortion pills every time I found out she was pregnant.”
Mia’s heart seemed to stop beating. Her trembling hands moved to her stomach.
She had always thought her babies miscarried because of her weak body and uterus, but it turned out her babies had been murdered by their own father all along.
Mia began pounding her chest repeatedly, hoping it would ease the pain in her heart.
“After everything I’ve done, you believe now that my love for you is genuine, don’t you?” Alex’s voice sounded soft, once again, the man kissed Vivi’s lips.
Vivi wrapped her arms around his neck and laughed softly.
"Alex, I believe in you." Vivi chuckled softly. "Poor Mia, she really has terrible luck."
"Darling, don't mention her name again, I can't bear to hear it. I'll divorce her this week and marry you." Alex spoke between their kisses.
The moans, kisses, and intimacy unfolding before her made Mia think that being held at gunpoint by Verdict was far better than watching that disgusting spectacle.
The gun barrel pressed against Mia’s temple was pulled away by the guards when they saw that she seemed unfazed by the threat of the weapon.
"Is the sight you're witnessing more valuable than your own life? If you don't hurry, you won't just be shot dead. Verdict will remove and sell your organs. And if that happens… you’ll completely lose your chance to take revenge on your husband. The choice is yours.”
Mia clenched her teeth, she couldn’t bear to imagine Vivi and Alex’s joy if she died. She refused to die while they were happy! Wasn’t that utterly unfair?
That sighing sound seemed to continue as Mia stood up and walked away from her room.
She would have to suppress her pain for now, survival was more important than grief.
As soon as she arrived at Alex’s office, Mia headed straight for the desk in the center of the room.
He picked up one of the pens stuck in the antique marble penholder. As she pulled it out, the wall in the corner of the room shifted slowly, revealing a secret staircase leading downward, toward the basement, where Alex might have hidden the documents, other than in their bedroom.
With her strength waning and the pain in her stomach growing stronger, Mia weakly descended the stairs.
When she reached the basement, she went straight to the mahogany table in the center. She immediately opened the drawers and searched through the documents.
Relief flooded through her when she finally found the document Verdict wanted.
At that very moment, the guards snatched the item and left, leaving her alone in the room.
A brown envelope that had fallen at her feet caught her attention. She picked up the envelope with the court seal, then turned it over and over.
Confusion enveloped her, sparking her curiosity until she decided to peek inside.
Why was there an envelope from the court? Was her husband involved in some kind of case?
As soon as she opened it, Mia’s eyes were fixed on the sentence printed on the first sheet of paper, where the words “PETITION FOR JUDICIAL SEPARATION AND DIVORCE” were displayed.
Then, as she turned to the next page, her heart felt as if it were being torn apart, her hand unconsciously crumpled the paper after reading the first sentence written there: “IRREVOCABLE TRANSFER OF ASSETS.”
Not satisfied with that, Mia rummaged through various other documents in the drawer. After taking control of her inheritance, she was worried that her husband had also secretly taken over her grandfather’s shares.
A few minutes later, the papers were scattered across the floor. Instead of finding what she was looking for, Mia stumbled upon several sheets of photos showing Alex and Vivi in intimate moments.
Mia’s heartbeat slowed. Her gaze went blank as her eyes fell on an intimate photo taken against the backdrop of her and Alex’s wedding hall. Mia drew one conclusion: they had likely been having an affair since the very first day she and Alex got married.
The other photos seemed to support Mia’s suspicion, the intimate photos were taken in the same locations as her honeymoon with Alex.
A low chuckle escaped her lips, mocking her own foolishness for having been blinded by love all this time, and for falling into Alex’s deception, to the point where her child had become a victim of that man’s selfishness.
Her tears fell, soaking the paper, the edge of the paper had torn from her clenching it so tightly.
Mia snapped back to reality upon hearing the sound of footsteps approaching.
She could guess who was coming, the only other person who knew about this hidden room. Alex!
In a matter of seconds, she managed to stuff the scattered documents back into their original place.
The footsteps growing closer made it impossible for Mia to think clearly. In a panic, she finally squeezed her body into the large wardrobe not far from where she stood.
Through the crack in the wardrobe door, Mia could see Alex walking toward the desk, followed by Vivi behind him. As soon as the man sat down in his chair, Vivi settled onto his lap and rested her head affectionately against his chest.
“Honey, why did we stop making love? I’m not satisfied yet,” Vivi whined in a spoiled voice.
“My assistant sent a message, Miller Global Corp’s stock suddenly plummeted. I’m sorry, honey, I’ll make it up to you tomorrow night, okay? I promise I’ll make love to you all night long and satisfy you,” Alex replied, stroking Vivi’s hair.
Mia watched the scene with a look of disgust on her lips. Meanwhile, her fingers clenched the documents in her hand once more, venting her anger.
“But… isn’t Mia coming home from the hospital tomorrow? So, you’ll definitely be staying with her all night, right? It looks like I’ll have to sleep alone again tomorrow. But our baby says he doesn’t want to be separated from his father.”
“Baby?” Mia muttered unconsciously, her gaze momentarily blank, the envelope in her hand suddenly slipping from her grasp.
“So… Vivi is carrying Alex’s baby?” she whispered weakly.
She shouldn’t be surprised that Vivi is pregnant with Alex’s child. It’s only natural, considering they’ve been having an affair for three years since their marriage, but this reality felt so hard for her to accept.
“Vivi, how could I possibly let you sleep alone after hearing the news of your pregnancy this morning? Starting tonight and from now on, you’ll never sleep alone again.”
“But what about Mia? She’ll get suspicious of us.”
“Vivi, you don’t need to worry. I’ll divorce her this week, then marry you. I won’t let the child in your womb be born without the Miller surname.”
A bitter smile appeared on her lips, Mia touched her stomach while a stifled sob trembled on her lips.
Is Alex still worthy of being called human? Could he really bring himself to kill three fetuses his own children, just because they weren’t in the womb of the woman he wanted?

The familiar white-painted room and the smell of medicine flooded Mia’s senses as she woke up. Her head felt dizzy as flashbacks of last night’s painful events flooded her memory, the kidnapping… and then the affair in her own home.
She had ended up back in the hospital room in the middle of the night because she refused to stay at her own home.
Her body felt so weak, while the pain in her stomach hadn’t subsided at all.
“Miss, your physical condition is more stable now. You’re allowed to go home today, but I recommend you get plenty of rest and avoid major stress for the next few weeks.”
Mia responded to the doctor’s words with a nod, she shifted her gaze toward the window, where the sky appeared gray this morning.
“Miss, you’re very lucky to have a husband like Alexander Miller. He’s very attentive to you and your family, even this morning… I saw him bringing Miss Vivi in for treatment because of her weak pregnancy.”
Dr. Edward’s words made Mia look back at him. Now her heart felt even colder.
After killing her own fetus, was Alex now worrying about his mistress’s child under the same roof? Mia was certain even the devil wasn’t this cruel.
Dr. Edward’s departure left Mia in silence. In a place where she was supposed to be treated and healed, she was instead suffering more and feeling even more pain.
The presence of Alex and Vivi seemed to constantly gnaw at her soul, until she could barely bear the pain.
The click of the door, followed by heavy footsteps, snapped Mia out of her reverie.
At first, she thought it was a nurse. But when her eyes caught the figure stepping inside, her heart suddenly slowed. It was the person Mia hoped she’d never see again...Verdict.
Mia shrank back as the man stopped beside her bed. Then he gave her a faint smile, a smile that to Mia looked terrifying.
“How are you, Mrs. Miller?” the man asked in a voice that sounded light. But to Mia, that voice sounded like a death knell!
Mia felt the air around her grow so thin she could barely breathe. Sweat beaded on her temples, and panic began to creep over her. “V-Verdict… w-why are you here?”
"I came to say thank you, the documents you gave me last night were very helpful."
Verdict said with a faint smile. Mia held her breath as the man leaned in until their faces were level. Once again, Mia shivered as he pulled out a gun and aimed the barrel at her temple.
“Is this how you say thank you? By scaring me?” Mia muttered, turning her face away, unwilling to look at that terrifying face any longer.
But Verdict immediately grabbed her chin roughly, forcing her to keep looking at him.
“Right, this is how I show my gratitude before I actually kill you. My rule is, if anyone witnesses the business I run, they must die, that’s how our organization has managed to survive until now.” Every sentence was spoken in a low tone, the man even gave a small smile. The effect on Mia was no joke. She shivered, she wanted to run as far away as possible because she was so terrified, but her body felt paralyzed under the man’s dominance and control.
“Besides… you don’t seem to have any reason left to keep living, do you? You’re a woman with no wealth, no children, and no husband, you’ve had terrible luck. Believe me... hell is better than all of this.”
When the click of the gun against her temple sounded, the corners of her eyes trembled as she held back her tears. Why, in this one life... did she have such terrible luck?
“Now die, Mia....” The gun was pressed harder against her temple.
