"Now die, Mia..." The gun was pressed harder against her temple.
Tears fell as her hand reached up and slowly grasped the gun. "Let me live. Please let me live a little longer so I can take revenge on my husband."
As soon as she finished speaking, Mia watched the man’s lips twitch, followed by a cynical smile that slowly formed.
“I’ll take that as your last wish, because...” The man brought his face right next to Mia’s ear and whispered, "You won't be able to take your revenge in your weakened state, you aren't even worthy of living, Mia."
As Verdict turned his face away, their gazes met. Mia’s gaze wavered as the light in her eyes dimmed.
Her previous fear had vanished entirely. She now fearlessly brushed the gun away from her temple.
“That’s why I need you, Verdict. With your power, you can destroy Alex in an instant. I’ll pay whatever it takes for that. Name your price.”
Mia clutched her blanket tightly as she said this. She knew how dangerous it was to work with the mafia, but money could solve everything.
Even though her financial situation was unstable, at least she still had some jewelry left behind by her late mother. Verdict wouldn’t kill her if she could be a source of profit for him. Though she wasn’t willing to sell the last thing her mother had left her.
“I don’t need your money,” Verdict replied, followed by a low chuckle as if mocking Mia’s offer.
Mia snorted, watching the sly smile on the man’s lips. Verdict was cunning beyond measure, and she had nowhere else to turn.
"If it's not money, tell me what you want. I'll give it to you... except my life.” Mia’s voice caught in her throat, her words felt like a ticking time bomb for herself. But if she didn’t do this, the man would truly kill her.
“Even though Alex is my sworn enemy, I have no intention of destroying him, I’m more eager to compete with him.” Verdict sat down on the edge of the bed, right next to Mia. His gaze seemed fixed on Mia’s fingers clutching the blanket, then he gave a crooked smile before locking eyes with the woman.
“Since you asked me to destroy him, I’ll do it. As payment, I want you to marry me, that’s the symbol of my victory over him.”
Verdict’s final words made Mia’s blood rush faster, her emotions erupted in an instant, flashing in her eyes.
“You’re crazy?! I won’t marry you!” Mia’s scream echoed through the room, while Verdict seemed to relish her anger, flashing an even wider grin.
“Revenge against Alex and marrying me. Actually, that’s a little better than death… or would you rather just die?” He waved the gun in front of Mia’s face. “Besides, if you marry me, you’ll gain an advantage… namely, the honorary title of wife to the heir of the Vanderbilt mafia.”
Every sentence that came out of Verdict’s mouth made Mia feel even more oppressed. A title of honor? As a mafia wife? That was even worse than death! Being a mafia wife was hell on earth!
“If that’s the case, forget my offer, Verdict,” she growled, glaring coldly at the man. “I’ll take my revenge on Alex my own way.”
Click.
The creak of the door broke the tension between them. They both turned toward the door as it began to open.
In an instant, Verdict jumped to his feet and nimbly ran toward the balcony. A few seconds later, Alex emerged from behind the door.
Silently, Mia observed Alex’s slightly disheveled appearance, he was still wearing the same shirt he’d had on in the office the night before. Alex usually took great care of his appearance, it seemed he’d been so rushed tending to Vivi that he hadn’t had time to fix his own clothes.
“Mia… I’m relieved to see you’re okay. I’m sorry, I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t had time to be with you.” The man wore a look of deep regret as he sat down beside the bed. That expression only made Mia feel sick.
“It’s fine, your work must be overwhelming,” Mia replied flatly, then shifted her gaze to the balcony, unwilling to look at her husband’s face any longer.
“I just finished handling your return. Now you can go home. But… I’m sorry I can’t drive you.”
Mia’s gaze snapped back to her husband. She could no longer hide the look of disgust on her face.
“Why?” she asked, though she already knew the answer.
“Vivi was admitted to the hospital this morning, she said she wasn’t feeling well. I feel sorry for her because no one is with her in her room.”
“Not feeling well?” Mia thought bitterly. Alex’s lie sounded utterly ridiculous to her. In her eyes, Alex now seemed so desperate just because of Vivi’s fragile pregnancy. Meanwhile, he felt not a shred of guilt after killing the fetus in his own wife’s womb!
“So it’s fine, right? You’re going home with the driver? Vivi’s condition is very concerning, and your parents are still out of town.”
Mia sneered inwardly, she wanted to scream her anger, why didn’t a single member of her family care about her?
Vivi again. Always Vivi. Ever since her mother passed away and her father chose to marry Vivi’s mother, she had become an outcast. And now, even her own husband was doing the same.
Once again, she could only swallow the anger in her chest whole. Then she nodded. “Going home with the driver isn’t a problem,” she muttered sarcastically.
"Also, I have a favor to ask you before I go home." Alex leaned in, closing the distance between them. His fingers moved slowly, brushing aside the strands of hair that covered Mia’s face.
"Honey, would you be willing to donate blood for Vivi? The doctor said she has anemia. Only your blood type matches Vivi’s rare blood type,” Alex said in a hurried tone. “You’re the kindest woman I’ve ever met. Please do this for her, Mia.”
Mia didn’t answer right away, she stared intently at the man’s face. Her heart screamed in frustration at her own foolishness for having been lulled by Alex’s deception all this time. Mia flinched when the man’s hand suddenly pressed against her shoulder.
“Mia, please help Vivi. She’s very weak. If anything happens to her, your parents will be terribly worried.”
“And what about me? No one worries about me every time I have a miscarriage,” Mia thought bitterly. She looked at Alex with an expression that was hard to read.
“So he came here just to ask for her blood for Vivi? What a responsible and caring man,” she sneered inwardly.
“But I just had a miscarriage, I shouldn’t—”
Her words trailed off as Alex suddenly embraced her.
Her body went stiff, the embrace that once felt warm now felt suffocating. She wanted to break free immediately and run away from him.
“Please, honey,” Alex said desperately. “If we can’t find a donor, Vivi’s anemia will get worse. I’m so worried about her, she’s your only sister.”
Seeing Alex’s desperation, Mia felt her heart being torn apart again. “B-but… my condition isn’t great either, Alex.”
Alex released their embrace, then clasped Mia’s hands tightly.
“If you agree, I’ll grant any request you make. Mia, I beg you.”
Mia fell silent for a moment, her mind spinning as she processed his last words. He’d grant any request she made? Her gaze darkened. She slowly pulled her hands away from his grip.
“Anything? Without exception?” Mia’s voice sounded cold. Though doubt had flashed across her face, she quickly suppressed it.
“Yes, I’ll do whatever you ask, as long as you help Vivi!”
Mia could see a glimmer of relief in Alex’s eyes. To her, he now looked like a foolish man who had lost his mind, he was willing to beg and promise anything just for Vivi’s sake.
If this was the case, she would use his request as the beginning of his downfall!
“All right, I’ll do it,” she replied softly.
Instantly, Alex pulled Mia into his arms again. “Thank you… you’re the best woman I’ve ever met, Mia. I’m so lucky to have met you,” he whispered.
Mia could feel the man’s body trembling with happiness after successfully persuading her.
“Keep your promise after this,” Mia replied in a whisper. Then the man nodded repeatedly, his face buried in her shoulder.
“Yes, I’ll definitely keep it. As long as you make Vivi healthy again.”
A dark smirk appeared on Mia’s lips. She thought coldly to herself, “Of course Vivi has to be healthy. She has to be healthy so she can watch you crumble, Alex. And when that time comes, I’ll make sure you both suffer as much as possible.”

As Alex had requested, Mia donated her blood that same day.
Dr. Edward had strongly protested, as the procedure was risky for a patient like Mia who had just suffered a miscarriage. However, Mia remained adamant. She used humanitarian reasons, claiming it was to save her sister’s pregnancy, which was weakened by severe anemia. In reality, it was all a lie on Mia’s part, she did all this because Alex had promised to grant any of her requests.
"Miss, you’re finally awake."
When Mia regained consciousness, the doctor’s worried face was the first thing she saw.
"I was worried because you fainted during the donation process. You experienced hypovolemic shock on top of acute anemia, made worse by your uterus not having fully recovered." He continued, "You need to take the medication I prescribed regularly to manage the dizziness and weakness."
Mia merely nodded, though she didn’t fully hear the doctor’s words. The effects of hypovolemic shock made her ears ring and her head spin. Despite her condition, she forced herself to get out of bed.
Once she was done, she left the room. With heavy steps, she made her way down the corridor, occasionally holding onto the wall to steady her unsteady gait.
She winced slightly every time she nearly fell, then continued her steps to the hospital’s ground floor, where the driver Alex had arranged was waiting for her in the driveway.
The crowded lobby caused Mia to nearly get bumped into repeatedly, whether by doctors rushing by or nurses carrying emergency patients. They scolded her repeatedly.
As a result, she was forced to take a detour through the garden walkway, a quiet, open corridor directly connected to the driveway area.
As she walked down the long corridor, her steps grew increasingly unsteady. Her body trembled, but she forced her legs to keep moving.
The post-donation effects in her unstable condition were truly tormenting her, she could barely withstand the piercing dizziness in her temples. Her vision gradually blurred, even the silhouettes of two figures in the middle of the garden now began to look like Vivi and Alex to her.
Mia rubbed her eyes repeatedly. Once her vision cleared, the two figures in the middle of the garden which she had initially thought were just hallucinations, turned out to be real silhouettes.
Vivi and Alex were really there. They were walking along a small path, holding hands and laughing together.
They were happy, truly, truly happy… after draining her blood and destroying her entire life.
Verdict had been right... she was so pitiful she didn't deserve to live. Mia clenched her fists tightly, tears spilling as she watched the two figures for a moment longer.
“It’s so unfair,” she hissed. She gave a low laugh. “It’s unfair that I’m dying and they’re living happily… it’ll only be fair if I destroy them before I die.”
She began to feel the world spinning violently around her. Her vision slowly grew dark.
As her defenses crumbled, her body swayed to the side. On the brink of consciousness, he felt himself falling into something warm. Through his dimming eyes, he caught a glimpse of someone pulling him into an embrace.
“Verdict…,” she murmured weakly before the darkness swallowed her whole.
