Chapter 1
"My dearest sister, when will this ever end?"
I looked up from the cold body of my mate who laid unevenly in my arms and said, "Brother, I didn't mean for this to happen."
"I'm sure you didn't,"
My step-brother walked towards me and I could feel the intensity of his glare as he neared me. When he stopped, he stared down at his best friend and former beta who betrayed him to be with me.
"The least you could do after taking him from me was to ensure his survival but what did you do?!"
I flinched at the cold words of my step-brother, my eyes blurring with tears.
"You cursed him to death!"
"I didn't mean to!" I found myself yelling back, causing a brief moment of silence between us.
In a quieter voice, I said, "All I wanted was to be loved, to be held and accepted for all that it's worth."
"But you know you can't! Everyone you've ever been paired with by the moon goddess either dies in their sleep, or be killed violently due to 'some accident. You're a bad luck to this pack, Dianna.
And whether you decide to love anyone from now on, you’re just to spell doom on them, it wouldn't matter to me. Because at least none of my men will end up dead. Not anymore."
"What are you saying, brother?" I asked as a single tear rolled down my cheek.
My brother's eyes had turned to that of his wolf and he seemed hungry for blood.
I gently placed down the body in my arms and backed up from my brother's predatory stance.
"What I should have done a long time ago, sister."
With that, his eyes glowed fiercely and the next thing I knew was that he was behind me, his strong hand hitting the lower part of my head causing me to feel paralyzed from my knees.
I lost my balance and was about to fall but he held me up with a single arm and whispered in my ear, "I'm not going to kill you even though I solely want to, Dianna, for old times sake. Instead, I'll send you to a place so far you won't be to manipulate my men with your evil eyes. Now, sleep."
A sharp pain accompanied with dizziness hit me and the more I tried to stay conscious, the more darkness clouded my vision before I passed out.
When I woke up, I found myself in a vehicle that seemed older than the 1900s, and it reeked of smoke.
I recalled the last conversation with my brother and I immediately went panic mode.
I Looked at my hands and saw that they were untied, then I looked at the driver but could only see the back of his head. Either way, he did not look like a threat so I contemplated attacking him first.
Without thinking too much of the issue, I leaped forward at him and he barely lifted a finger before I found myself flying back into the back seat.
A gasp escaped my lips and I looked around me frantically, wondering how that even happened.
How could I have been stopped without this man lifting a finger? My heart thudded with worry and anxiety as I realized that my foe was not as weak as I thought.
If he could restrain me just by barely lifting a finger, how much more if he did?
"P-please don't hurt me, I'll give you anything you want."
"Of course not dear," He turned around and I felt chills at his appearance.
Bushy dirty brown hair with olive tan skin and green eyes with hinges of red in his pupil. He had a tangy smell that could only be perceived from werewolves.
"Who are you?" I pretended to be brave, for my question was a necessary one.
I hadn't offended any werewolves. As a matter of fact, I believed their redemption was possible if they stopped being so vindictive and murderous.
"The only thing you need to know is that you're going to be a dancer. It's good for my business." He said as he put his focus back on the road. And from the gurgling of the car engine, I could tell that this was a Volvo truck and not even a smaller car like I once thought.
There were things in the back of the car that held a ton of weight. I tried to listen and I subtly heard clacking sounds like that of chains.
"What about my brother?" I asked.
"He sold you to me. You're mine now, little one."
My chest suddenly felt pressured and I couldn't breathe. It was like someone had pulled off a rug from underneath my feet, leaving me with no safety net.
My step-brother was my only family after our parents were killed by werewolves and to think he would do this to me… selling me.
"How much did he sell me for?" I asked in a single breath.
"Not much. He would've gotten more coins out of me if he haggled more but he didn't seem to care about the money. He only cared about you leaving Starlight crease as soon as possible."
This obviously bothered me but I pretended it didn't. "If money is what you're after, I'll pay you double."
"No."
"Let. Me. Go." I said in my Alpha voice and without any hesitation, I jammed my elbow into the glass next to me and without hesitation, I shifted into my wolf and jumped out the window.
I may not be able to attack the person I was sold to, but I sure as hell could escape him.
As I ran with the clear focus of entering the nearby bushes leading to a clearing of woods, I realized that I wasn't able to run at my best.
My speed was severely low to what I was capable of, and my heart was beating too fast which made me tire out easily and feel an overwhelming sense of fatigue.
"What is wrong with me?" I wondered.
"Well, that wasn't very ladylike of you." I looked behind me and froze when I saw him.
He gave me a manic stare and before I knew it my legs were clamped with the chains in his hands.
"Did you really think I wouldn't take precautions?" He tightened the chains around my legs causing me to scream out in pain.
"Wolfsbane." I hissed.
The wolfsbane continued to increase the pains around my legs causing me to forcefully shift into my human form before passing out.
