We had dropped my bag off, I'd got change whilst I was home too, braiding my hair tightly then opting for black denim jeans, a long sleeve cotton shirt and my black leather boots.
Luce had whistled with approval, making me shake my head.
"Remember we talk, then you never annoy me in class again?" I say more sharply then I'd intended, he nodded but seemed unfazed by my words.
"Those linked by destiny will always find each other again." Was all he said, as I swung onto the bike again.
"Did you just Quote the Witcher?" I ask, but he doesn't answer.
We weave through the streets, pulling onto the main road, we head down the main drag of shops, he scans each side before slowing he pulls up in front of my favourite diner.
I get off first, undoing my helmet, I strap it to the handle bars then take my jacket off folding it I put it in the saddle bags, Luce is about to say something when I cut him off.
"I know I could leave it on but I get too hot." I say.
He nods smiling.
"I'll have to get you a vest." He shakes his head.
"No you won't, we won't be doing this again." I say pointedly.
We walk towards the entrance, I can feel Luce close behind me, usually I'd feel awkward with a guy so close, but with him it felt familiar.
We reach the counter to order, I'm looking over the menu when Luce pulls it out of my hands.
"Do you mind if I order for you?" He asks, I frown but something about the way he asks makes me nod.
I head to the back couch booth, sitting down against the wall I could see the entire diner, I leaned back as my phone vibrated.
'Hey Cassie,
Just got home from work, saw you bag in your room but couldn't find you.
Are you around or out? Will you be back for dinner? Or are you at Serena's?
Mum x'
Shit I'd forgot to leave a note.
'Hey Mum,
Yeah I'm out, I'll be back for dinner, at the diner with a new friend from school.
Also got my uniform today, so have left credit card in fruit bowl.
Love you, Cassie x'
Mum sends me a thumbs up emoji, as Luce slides into the seat across from me.
I smile to myself, as I catch him studying me, I'm about to speak when I'm interrupted.
"2 Iced coffees with cream, 2 fried chicken with salad, chips and gravy." The waitress only look at Luce as she said this, bending over the table as she put the orders down, she'd given him a clear view of her breasts.
I on the other hand sat like a statue, trying to ignore her presence hoping she'd leave with noticing me, but Luce had other plans.
"Thanks darling, looks perfect was I close with your order, Cassie?" As soon as my name left his mouth, the waitress's head snapped to look at me, I grimaced, sliding down in my seat.
"Exactly what I would of chose, thank you Luce." I spit his name, avoiding Amy's accusing glare.
Amy smiled at Luce, then leaned over hissing at me.
"Goddamn it Cassie! Pick one! You can't have the 2 hottest guys in school all to yourself."
Luce looked away but I could see he'd overheard her, curiosity now played in his eyes, his ear was practically growing in front of me to listen.
"First Jasper Black and Now Luce Fallen too?! Anyone else you've got your eye on?" She hissed.
It was this inconvenient moment luce chose to cut in, sealing my fate.
"Well she doesn't have her eye on Mr East as such, but he has his eyes on her." I slid my gaze to Luce, who's eye seem to widen in surprise at something.
Amy had gone dead still, her jaw hanging open she placed the receipt on the table and walked away, dazed
I took a long sip of my coffee, the whip cream already melting into the milk, I pushed down my want to tip it over Luce and walk away.
I flicked my eyes over to him, as he sat silent studying me, I sighed, picking up my fork I started on the salad.
Taking up the cue, Luce did the same, all his swagger gone with the disappearance of Amy.
After we'd finished eating I looked at the time, 4.30, I needed to be home by 7pm.
"OK Luce explain." My words come out cold and void of emotion.
"Well first, the reason Mr East and I know eachother is because we are cousins." He begins.
I frown I would not of picked that, when i nod he continues.
"We live together, moved her together, I believe we both mistaked you for a girl we knew, when we were younger." He says.
"Cassiel?" I fill in, and he nods.
"Yes Cassiel, and when you introduced yourself as Cassie, well we thought she was you." As Luce says this he voice takes on a tone, like this is something I should already know.
"Mr East or Gab and I were both in love with her, so were others, she was easy to love, she was smart, outgoing and beautiful." As he says this last word, he smiles at me.
"She moved one day and we lost contact, when we saw you, well you has a striking resemblance." He smiles but this time it doesn't reach his eyes.
"Despite us both knowing this now, I believe my brother and I will still find it hard to stay away." He shrugs.
I nod taking it all in, so they had both been in love with her, so they'd be attracted to me through my similarities to this girl, the name also similar to mine.
"I'd still like to be your friend, I promise to behave myself and I won't touch you again, if you don't want me too." He adds a little quieter.
I bit my lip contemplating his offer, in the back of my mind I knew I should say no, especially when I felt Luce had other plans then a platonic friendship, but I couldn't resist the way he made me feel.
So against my better judgement.
"Ok I'll be you friend, on a trial." I warn, but his eyes sparkled with a victory, despite keeping a straight face.
We'd made to leave soon after that, Amy watch us in a daze as we walked to the front door.
I headed outside, I'd seen Luce pay for our meal and leave a tip.
Standing outside I noticed it was already cooling, the cool breeze carenessed my hair as I closed my eyes, I heard a chuckle as some boys approached.
I turned to look, when his eyes meet mine, I knew I was grinning like an i***t as I ran into Jasper's waiting arms.
"Hey Cas, what are you doing here?" He mumbled into my hair as his mates looked on whooping, I meet there gaze and they quickly quietened, offering apologetic smiles.
"I was hanging out with the new kid Luce, but was just about to head home." I smiled forgetting Luce was a guy and that was about to be a problem.
"Ohh Serena's gonna be jealous, you've got a new girl bestie." He chuckled, as the boys went silent, looking behind me so did Jasper.
"Actually" I stiffened as Luce's voice sounded behind me, laced with satisfaction.
"Luce is short for Lucius, So I think you'll be the jealous one." He offers Jasper a hand, as I side to the side.
"Nothing to be jealous about, because this is a platonic friendship only." As I say the words I know they sound venomous and cruel, Luce cringes, his eyes looking away uncomfortably, Jasper looks back at Luce smug.
"Well our friendship isn't 'Platonic'" Jasper says to Luce, with an arm around my waist he lean's down, kissing me on the cheek, making me giggle, territorial dork.
Jasper's best mate, Ben comes up smiling, offering his hand to Luce.
"Well it's nice to meet you, you should come to football training, looks like you'd be a good player." Luce accepts his hand, and ben smiles before adding. "Watch out for this one she's more than most can handle, I've seen her put Jasper on his ass on more then one occasion." I glare at Ben then, as he holds his hands up in defense, then he and the other boys slip in, Jasper offers a nod, before doing the same, I see him playfully punch ben through the window.
I turn to Luce, who's watching me again.
"Yes?" I asked, hand on hip, he smirks.
"Nothing Cassie, sorry." He turns to the bike offering me his jacket and helmet again.
I put them on and slide in behind him, he over revs the bike before sliding out into the street.
Show off; I think to myself, pressing closer to his back.
Jasper Pov
Cassie slides in behind Lucius on his Harely, she makes it look like the easiest thing in the world, like she's done it a hundred times.
I watch as he peels out into the street, he flips a salute as he rides one handed, Cassie's eyes light up as they speed away.
The boys are joking, trying to get my attention back to them and though I trust Cassie, I don't trust Lucius.
I hate that they look so good together.
I think about way Cassie had reacted to Lucius's words, her eyes had flashed with emotion, in a way she'd never done with me.
I felt like I'd come home 1 day too late.
