Alpha Nathan was deeply engrossed in the file spread out before him, his brow furrowed in concentration, when his guard burst into the room with an air of urgency. The sudden interruption caused Nathan's eyes to narrow, his gaze still fixed on the papers in front of him.
"Why did you rush in that way?" Nathan asked, his voice firm but measured, without looking up. "Is there a problem?"
The guard hesitated, his eyes darting nervously around the room before responding, "Lady Rebecca ordered your new maid to be locked up in the dungeon, sir."
Nathan's expression remained impassive, his head still bent over the file. "She must have done something to displease Lady Rebecca," he muttered, his voice devoid of emotion. "Let her remain there until evening. Perhaps a night in the dungeon will teach her to behave."
The guard nodded hastily and backed out of the room, leaving Nathan to his work. But as the door closed, Nathan's gaze finally lifted, his eyes gleaming with a hint of curiosity. Who was this new maid, and what had she done to incur Lady Rebecca's wrath? He made a mental note to investigate further, his interest piqued.
"How can you make a judgment like that when you know she's carrying your child?" Kato's voice thundered through the mind link, his outrage and disbelief palpable.
"She's pregnant, for crying out loud! Your own flesh and blood is growing inside her, and you're willing to let her rot in the dungeon like a common criminal?"
Nathan's response was icy calm, his mental voice devoid of emotion.
"I am keeping her alive because of my child," he said, his words dripping with detachment.
"That doesn't mean she's going to receive special treatment just because she's carrying my heir. She's still a prisoner, and she'll be treated as such."
Kato's mental growl was audible, his frustration and anger simmering just below the surface.
"You're impossible, Nathan," he snarled.
"You're going to regret this, mark my words. She's the mother of your child, and you're going to treat her like dirt? You're no better than your father."
Nathan's mental sigh was a cold, calculated sound.
"I'm not going to debate this with you, Kato. My decision is final. She'll remain in the dungeon until I deem otherwise." The mental link went silent, leaving Kato seething with impotent rage.

Monica's heels clicked on the marble floor as she descended the staircase, her professional attire a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside her. Despite her unhappiness, she had a job to do, and she couldn't let her personal life interfere with her responsibilities.
As she reached the bottom of the stairs, her brother Sebastian greeted her with a warm smile. "Sis, I made breakfast," he said, his eyes sparkling with kindness.
Monica's expression softened as she took in the spread before her.
"You shouldn't have stressed yourself, Seb," she said, her voice tinged with concern.
Sebastian shrugged, his shoulders squared in determination.
"I have to help since my sister is not here," he replied, his voice firm. "Besides, someone has to take care of you."
Monica's heart swelled with pride and love for her little brother. She patted his hand, her touch gentle.
"Don't worry, Seb. She'll be back soon. The only thing I want you to always do is to pray for your sister."
Sebastian nodded, his eyes wide with understanding.
"I will, sis. I'll pray every day for Selene to come back to us."
Monica's smile faltered for a moment, her eyes welling up with tears. But she quickly composed herself, not wanting to worry her brother further. She took a deep breath, her shoulders squaring in determination.
"Let's eat, Seb. We have a long day ahead of us."
"I sent some money to you, go get some nice clothes for school," Monica said, her eyes shining with pride and generosity. "Treat yourself, Seb. You deserve it."
Sebastian's face lit up with excitement as he jumped up from his seat and wrapped his arms around Monica's waist.
"Sis, thank you so much!" he exclaimed, his voice muffled against her side.
Monica hugged him back, feeling a sense of joy and fulfillment wash over her.
"You're welcome, little brother," she whispered, her voice filled with emotion.
"I'm sure Selene will be so happy if she knew you got the scholarship to the university."
Sebastian pulled back, his eyes sparkling with tears. "I know she would be, sis. She's always wanted the best for me."
Monica smiled, her heart swelling with love for her siblings. "We'll make her proud, Seb. We'll make her proud."
As they hugged again, Monica felt a sense of determination wash over her. She would do everything in her power to ensure Sebastian's success, to make sure he had every opportunity to thrive.

Selene's fragile body shivered on the cold, unforgiving floor, her exhausted mind succumbing to a fitful sleep.
But her reprieve was short-lived, as the harsh clang of the door and the mocking laughter of the guards jolted her awake. Rebecca, the cruel mistress of the house, stepped into the dimly lit room, her eyes gleaming with malice.
Her maid, a timid-looking girl, hesitated for a moment before pouring a bucket of icy water over Selene's shivering form.
Selene's scream echoed through the room as she scrambled to her knees, her eyes flying open in shock and pain.
"Next time, you won't make a mistake when it comes to me," Rebecca taunted, her voice dripping with sadistic pleasure.
"You'll remember your place, and you'll tremble with fear at the mere mention of my name."
Selene's knees throbbed on the cold stone floor as she knelt before Rebecca, her teeth chattering uncontrollably. Rebecca's gaze lingered on her for a moment, savoring her misery, before she turned to the guards.
"Release her," she commanded, her voice dripping with disdain.
"And make sure she washes all the dishes in the kitchen before she can go to her room. I want her to remember this humiliation for a long time."
With a satisfied smirk, Rebecca swept out of the room, her maids scurrying behind her like obedient shadows. The guards followed, leaving Selene alone in the darkness, her heart heavy with despair and her body trembling with fear.
