No One Special

The deep voice resonated through the room, making Selene's heart race and her body tremble. She turned to face the Alpha, her eyes locking onto his piercing gaze, which seemed to bore into her very soul. Alpha Nathan's expression was icy, his eyes devoid of any warmth or emotion. His voice was low and commanding, sending shivers down Selene's spine. "I asked you a question," he repeated, his tone firm but controlled. Selene's voice caught in her throat as she tried to speak, her mind racing with excuses and apologies. Just then, Alpha Nathan's guard, Milo, stepped forward, his eyes fixed on Selene with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. The tension in the room was palpable, and Selene's heart raced with anticipation. Alpha Nathan's gaze never wavered from Selene's face as he addressed Lady Aurora, his voice firm but measured. "Did you tell her what her job here is?" he asked, his eyes narrowing slightly. Lady Aurora bowed her head, her voice trembling. "Yes, Your Majesty, I did." Alpha Nathan's expression darkened, his eyes flashing with anger. "Then what gave her the boldness to raise her hand to hit my Mistress?" he snapped, his voice echoing through the room. Lady Aurora gasped, her eyes darting to Selene before returning to the Alpha. "I'm sorry, Alpha. I promise it won't happen again!" she exclaimed, her voice laced with fear. Rebecca's smile grew wider, her eyes gleaming with triumph. "Don't make such a mistake again, if you want to stay here in peace," Alpha Nathan muttered, his voice dripping with warning. With that, he turned and entered the chamber, leaving Selene feeling shaken and intimidated. Rebecca's parting glance was a cold, calculating one, making Selene's blood run cold. Aurora's grip on Selene's hand was like a vice as she dragged her away from the tense scene upstairs. She only released her hand when they reached the downstairs area, her eyes blazing with anger and concern. "Are you crazy? Do you love your life or not? Why would you try to hit the Mistress?" Aurora's words were laced with exasperation, her tone a mixture of shock and disbelief. Selene's defense was swift, her voice laced with indignation. "She slapped me first!" Aurora's chuckle was dry and humorless. "Are you for real now? Do you think that's a valid excuse? She's the mistress, and you're just a slave! You should be grateful she didn't have you flogged on the spot!" Selene's eyes flashed with defiance, but Aurora's words cut deep. "I guess you don't love yourself, Selene. Do you think you can solve this with your crazy attitude? The Mistress might be your future Luna, for lord's sake! Do you expect the Alpha to have your back and not hers? Are you even thinking at all?" Aurora's words were a harsh slap of reality, making Selene's heart race with fear. "Do you know what a slave is? You're not free, Selene. You're property. If the king decides to punish you right now, there's absolutely nothing anyone would do about it. I'm telling you, so stop acting like you still have your freedom, or you will learn the hard way." With that, Aurora turned and walked away, leaving Selene standing alone, her mind reeling with the weight of her words. The cold truth hit her like a ton of bricks, making her realize the gravity of her situation. She was a slave, and her life was no longer her own. Selene's body crumpled to the floor, her sobs echoing through the empty hallway as she succumbed to the overwhelming despair that had been building up inside her. How could Alpha Nathan be so heartless, so cruel, when he knew she was carrying his child? The thought pierced her heart like a dagger, leaving her feeling shattered and alone. Just as she thought she was completely abandoned, a gentle voice broke through her tears. "New girl?" Someone called out, and Selene turned to see another maid standing before her, concern etched on her face. "Are you okay?" the maid asked, her voice soft and kind. Selene forced a sad smile, trying to compose herself. "Yeah, I'm fine," she lied, her voice cracking under the weight of her emotions. The maid's eyes filled with empathy, and she introduced herself. "I'm Bella. Heard you'll be my roommate." Selene's eyes met hers, and she whispered her name in response. Bella smiled warmly and extended a helping hand. "I'll show you our room. Let's go." Selene took her hand, feeling a glimmer of gratitude towards this stranger who showed her kindness in a place where it seemed scarce. As they walked together, Selene felt a small sense of comfort, a tiny spark of hope that maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't be alone in this cold and unforgiving world. * Back in the Alpha's chamber, Rebecca trailed behind him, her eyes fixed on his broad back as he entered the dressing room. Her voice was laced with a hint of desperation. "Are you going to talk to me or not?" She asked, her words hanging in the air like a challenge. Alpha Nathan's response was curt, his tone dismissive. "What are you still doing in here?" He didn't even bother to turn around, his focus fixed on the mirror as he began to change out of his formal attire. Rebecca's eyes narrowed, her voice rising in indignation. "Now you don't want me to be here? Is the mother of your unborn baby so important to you than me?" She cried, her words dripping with hurt and anger. Alpha Nathan's expression remained impassive, his voice devoid of emotion. "I don't think you know her, so can you stop talking about her? She's no one special." He replied, his words cutting deep into Rebecca's pride. But Rebecca refused to back down, her smile sweet and venomous. "You sure...then let's just call her your breeder." She spat, her eyes glinting with malice. The silence that followed was oppressive, Alpha Nathan's gaze fixed on his reflection as he ignored her jab. Rebecca's smile grew wider, her eyes gleaming with triumph. "Thanks for putting that maid in her place too." She said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Alpha Nathan's response was nonchalant, his voice devoid of emotion. "It's nothing special, no one is allowed to disrespect you." He said, his eyes never leaving his reflection as he broke away from her embrace. Rebecca's pout was petulant, her eyes flashing with anger, but Alpha Nathan remained unmoved. "The maids will be bringing another dinner for us, let's eat together." He said, his tone firm but detached. Rebecca's smile returned, her eyes gleaming with a calculating intensity as she nodded and walked out of the dressing room, leaving Alpha Nathan to his thoughts.
