Chapter 2 where are we going?

Carla’s P.O.V After the man made his announcement I began counting the seconds in my head, but soon the seconds turned to minutes and then the minutes turned to hours. A total of four hours later we suddenly stopped and as the truck jerked to a halt it almost made us all fall out of our seats. I heard the door open and one by one we were all jerked out of the truck. The hood was yanked off my head and I was met with blindly bright lights, but once I had blinked a few times my eyes adjusted to them. I started to look around to see where I was, but I soon realized that this place was so unfamiliar and I didn't recognize a single thing. There were trees everywhere and a huge building stood in front of us with a big spotlight or security light shining right at us. I looked around to see that all the others that were in the back of the truck with me were all women, but there was one in particular that was staring at me, hoping I would notice her. Was that the one who called herself Gabi, the one who was sitting next to me? I mouthed her name and she quickly nodded, making me feel relieved that I could now put a face to the name and voice, so I nodded back. Suddenly a door to the building in front of us opened and other women came out. They unchained our hands and took us one by one into the building. The women guided each of us into a room, where there was just a bathtub with a shower over it and a large wardrobe. I was the last one and it was now my turn to go inside. I had only a few minutes to quickly bathe and get dressed in the dress provided for me. “HELP!!!! HELP!!!! SOMEONE HELP!!!!” A woman suddenly screamed, just as I came out of the room. She was trying to get out and she almost made it to the door we came through when this huge muscular guy grabbed her and snapped her neck. I shuddered and covered my mouth with my hand to stop me from screaming out as I ran back into the room. The woman looked at me with wide eyes before sighing. “This happens all the time, you will get used to it if you get to stay here. We learn to turn the other way and you learn to stay to yourself if you want to live. Just forget about her, you're still alive and that's what counts.” The woman said and all I could do was nod. How the hell could anyone get used to this? What the hell is this place? How the hell could they get used to someone dying so easily? Was this how the women here survived? “Come on, it's time for you to get up on stage.” The woman said, snapping me out of my thoughts. “On stage?” I asked, still in a state of shock at what just happened. “Yes, on stage. Carla, Just stay strong, hold your head up high and don't look into their eyes, don't say anything unless you are asked a question. If you want to live then just do what I have told you.” The woman said and I quickly nodded. The woman gently grabbed my hand, leading me back out of the room and it made me think. “You know my name, but what's yours?” I asked, curious and maybe hoping to make a friend for however long I was going to be in this place. “My name is Toni and to answer your next question, I’ve been living here for almost thirty years. I was the first to come here and I never left. Come on, the master is calling us and if we are late then we get in trouble.” Toni replied and I nodded as we walked through another door. There was a huge set of black curtains closed tightly in front of me, so that I couldn't see anyone or anything on the other side and I’m assuming they couldn’t see me either. I sniffed the air and had a mixture of different smells hit me. There were werewolves, werebears, werecats and a few vampires here and that scared me. I prayed to the Moon Goddess that a vampire wasn’t my mate and didn't bid on me. “Come here, let me quickly fix you up.” Toni said, confusing me. She started quickly brushing my hair, doing a little bit of make-up and then finally she dabbed some perfume on me. “Listen, just stay calm. They can smell it when you're scared and they like it when you are, it excites them. You hold your head up and remember don't look into their eyes because you will get whipped.” Toni quickly said, taking my hands in hers. I quickly nodded as Toni looked at the curtain and then back at me. “The curtain is about to open, so I need to leave. Good luck and may the Goddess be with you.” Toni said and hurried to get off the stage. I wished she could have stayed with me as she was the only one besides Gabi to calm my nerves, but once she had left I turned my attention back to the curtains. My palms were sweating and my heart was racing, but I knew I needed to calm myself down or like Toni said they would smell my fear and that would only excite them. I had never in my life felt like a piece of meat or prey, but right now I was both and that scared the s**t out of me. Why exactly were they going to bid on me? What would the person who won me expect from me? Was I going to be sold just to be killed or was I going to become some sort of slave?
