Chapter 17: The Obsession Begins The silence lingered long after he left. Amara didn’t move immediately. She stood by the window, her gaze fixed on the distance, her expression calm. Unshaken. But inside— Something had shifted. Not weakness. Not hesitation. Closure. Behind her, the door clicked softly. “Miss Daniels.” She didn’t turn. “Yes?” “He’s gone.” Of course he was. A small pause. “Good.” Because there was nothing left to say. Nothing left to fix. Nothing left to feel. “He won’t stop,” her assistant added carefully. That made her turn. Her gaze sharp. “Explain.” “He didn’t come here just to apologize,” he said. “Men like him… don’t walk away easily.” Amara held his gaze for a moment. Then— A faint smile touched her lips. “I’m counting on it.” Because this wasn’t over. Not even close. Across the city— Ethan sat in his office, the lights dim, his desk untouched. For once— Work didn’t matter. Numbers didn’t matter. Meetings didn’t matter. Only one thing did. Amara. He leaned back slowly, his eyes closing briefly as her words replayed in his mind. “You don’t get to fix this.” His jaw tightened. Because no one had ever said that to him before. No one had ever— Denied him. “She’s not the same,” he muttered. And yet— That only made it worse. Because now— He wanted to understand her. To figure her out. To break through that calm, controlled exterior. To get her back. His eyes opened slowly. Determined. Focused. “This isn’t over,” he said quietly. Because for the first time— Ethan Cole wasn’t just interested. He was obsessed. Meanwhile— Vanessa sat alone in her apartment, the silence suffocating. Her phone lay untouched beside her. Her reflection stared back at her from across the room. But she didn’t look at it. Because she already knew what she would see. Failure. Her fingers curled into fists. “This is her fault,” she whispered. Her voice low. Cold. Dangerous. Amara. Everything had fallen apart because of her. Her plans. Her position. Her future. Vanessa stood abruptly, pacing the room. “No,” she said sharply. “This isn’t the end.” Her lips curved slowly. “If she wants to play this game…” Her eyes darkened. “Then I’ll finish it.” Back at the Daniels estate— Amara sat at her desk, flipping through a new file. This one— Was thicker. More detailed. More dangerous. “Status?” she asked calmly. “Everything is ready,” her assistant replied. She nodded slightly. “And the evidence?” “Confirmed.” A small pause. “Enough to destroy her completely.” Silence. Amara closed the file slowly. Her expression unreadable. “Good.” Because this time— She wasn’t just responding. She was ending it. “Set the meeting,” she said. “With who?” the assistant asked. Amara looked up. And for a moment— Something cold flickered in her eyes. “Everyone.” The city lights glowed quietly outside. Unaware. Unprepared. Because what was coming next— Wasn’t subtle. Wasn’t quiet. It was war. And this time— Amara Daniels wasn’t holding back.
