Dinner Date

Nate was sitting across from the girl he knew he would spend the rest of his life with, although she didn’t feel the same way about him yet, he knew it was only a matter of time before she realized they were made for each other, so he didn’t worry too much. When she asked him about his favorite movie he had seen in the last year he finally had enough of this little game; he decided to turn things around on her and start asking her some questions again.

“Why are you asking me about movies? Shouldn’t we be talking about more important things?”

“Like what?”, Betty tried to act aloof about what was going on.

“You know what? This was the whole reason we are out right now”

“No, the reason we are out right now is because I wanted to fulfill my obligation to someone, like I told you, I am not going to be with someone just because someone says I should”, Betty was annoyed at that point.

“That someone is fate and why can’t you give this a real chance, it’s not like it will kill you”

“You don’t know that, besides, when I fall in love I want it to be on my terms not someone else’s”

Nate could understand that, however, he still wanted his mate to like him and want to be with him, despite what she may feel; it would be hard to walk around see her knowing she didn’t want anything to do with him but if that was what it took then he would do it. They finished the dinner and headed back to the school so they could get ready for classes the next day; neither one said a word the entire ride back and it was killing Nate not to say anything. When he got back to his dorm room his roommate Chris was waiting for him, Chris was a warlock who he met their first year when they were paired up to room together and have been ever since.

"So how did it go Romeo?"

"It went well", Nate tried to sound upbeat.

"I know that voice, how did it really go?"

"She wants nothing to do with me man, I tried everything short of begging and she still said no, I don't know what to do"

"You could try making her Jealous, maybe get back together with Minnie and see how she reacts"

"That is the stupidest plan ever, you know what can happen if I do that, I don't want Minnie to flip out when I break up with her again"

"Think of it like this, if Betty sees you have moved on she will have to come around, besides, you know how powerful a mate bond is, she will have no choice but to come to you"

"That is the issue, she wants to have a choice in this, and forcing her to be with me, even if through trickery, will only send her in the other direction"

"Well in any case you should consider doing something, your father is going to want you to take over your pack soon and I don't think he will want you to do it without a mate"

Nate's father was a very traditional wolf and he had already met Nate's mother before he was given the title of alpha he knew this would be no different with him, he could try to talk to his father about what was going on but he knew his father would just tell him to find a way to get Betty in line. His mother was very submissive for being an alpha wolf and she knew when to bend to her mate's will and when to stand up and let her voice be heard, this was one of the things he admired about her; Nora knew how to get things done when she needed to. On his weekend break, he went home to run with his pack and sit in on meetings his father had with other packs trying to form alliances and make his pack stronger, they were already the biggest pack in the country so he didn't feel too worried about outside threats. Nate figured he could talk to his mother first about the situation and see if she had any ideas about what he could do to get Betty to come around, he thought it might be a good plan to have a woman's perspective on the whole thing.

"So what seems to be the issue son?", his mother was kind when she spoke.

"I have found my mate", he said without smiling.

"That's great son, I am so happy for you", she got up to hug him.

"Yeah, except she wants nothing to do with me"

"What? That can't be true"

"It is, she said she just wants to fulfill her obligation and that is all"

"Is all she said? Sometimes girls say one thing when they really mean something else"

"She said she wants to fall in love on her own terms", he admitted.

"Well I can understand that, I was the same way"

"That's not how Dad tells it, he said you took one look at him and was all over him"

"Your father says a lot of things that aren't the whole truth, when we met he relentlessly pursued me until I finally felt sorry for him and agreed to go out"

"Really?"

"No but don't you think that sounds better than what he told you", his mother began to laugh. "The truth is, I did feel the pull to your father but I also wanted to make sure it was what I wanted too, and not just the moon goddess telling me it was what I wanted, you have to let your mate do the same"

Nate knew his mother was right, he needed to let Betty realize that she did want to be with him, and no amount of begging and trickery was going to make that happen faster; the rest of the weekend he spent with his father in countless meetings talking alpha after alpha, this was going to be his life soon. Getting back to school he was now thinking about what his mother had said about his mate and how he needed to let her figure out for herself what she wanted, he was going to back off and wait for her to come to him. When he got back to his room he noticed the door was open and slightly ajar, he knew Chris wouldn't leave the door like that so he was ready for whoever was on the other side; he was not prepared for who he saw when he pushed the door all the way open.

"What the hell are you doing here Minnie?", the girl was half naked sitting on his bed.

"I wanted to surprise my favorite alpha"

"You need to leave, now"

"But I wanted to play a little with you", the girl got off the bed and came toward Nate.

"I said you need to leave, now", he pushed the girl off him.

"Is this because of that witch b***h, ever since she got here you haven't been yourself"

"Don't talk about my mate like that", he growled at the girl.

"I can't believe you would do this to me again", the girl looked hurt.

"I don't love you Minnie, I never loved you, now it is time for you to go"

Nate grabbed Minnie by the arm and shoved her out of his room closing the door behind him, he was now pissed thinking how Minnie disrespected his mate and tried to come on to him, he didn't want anything to do with that girl and he would make sure she stayed away from him and his mate. When Chris got back from class he was waiting to tell him everything that went down, his friend tried to sound surprised but he just couldn't and that is when he told Nate about how he had talked to Minnie and talked her into coming back to the room to wait for him.

"You did what?" Nate's voice was booming.

"Relax dude, I just trying to help, I thought maybe she could help take your mind off of Betty for a while"

"I told you I didn't want to use Minnie to make Betty jealous, why would you think this was a good idea?"

"I don't know, you were stressing about everything I figured this could help take away some of the stress"

Nate was done with his friend for the time, he just walked out of the room and headed to the nearby forest for a mid-day run, he needed to blow off some steam before he did something stupid and killed his roommate.
