Little Witch Lost

First Days

It was late when Betty arrived and, not wanting to wake her roommate, she tried to be extremely quiet when entering the room, however, her roommate was still up waiting for her; the girl looked excited to see her and gave her a crazy bear hug, which seemed impossible given the girl's tiny frame. Not wanting to show how nervous she was, Betty let the girl do all the talking, and in five minutes, she learned the girl's name was Jenney, she had a twin brother named Jeremy, and they were half-breeds whose mother was a werewolf and their father was a vampire. When the girl was done telling her life story she looked at Betty with an expectant expression like she was waiting for the girl to start talking any minute; not sure how to get out of it she just gave her a brief rundown of her life.

"Well, my name is Betty, I lived with my mother, who I guess is a witch, and my human father, I had no clue I was half witch until about five hours ago, and now I am here"

"That is so cool, I have never been in the human world, my parents would freak out if I even thought about going"

"Your parents sound like my dad, he didn't want me coming here, and my mom had to practically tie him to a chair to get him not to try and lock me in my room"

"He does know it is mandatory for our kind to come here, right?"

"He does now, he and Mrs. Bloom almost came to blows"

"Wow, she is a strong alpha werewolf, he would have been torn to pieces in seconds"

"I guess that's why my mom got in between them, she had to stop him from trying to take her on"

"Your mom must be powerful to get in between an alpha and their prey"

Betty never thought about how powerful her mother was, she had always just known her as a mild-mannered homemaker who took care of her when she was sick and who baked cookies at least once a month; apparently, her mother was the badass witch who could do anything. Once she was done talking about her family, she asked Jenney about the school and what she needed to know, who she should avoid, and things like that; she was told there was only one person she should try to avoid if she could and that was Nate, the Alpha's son and Mrs. Bloom's nephew. He had a toxic relationship with a she-wolf named Minnie who was not his mate but was trying to get him to hers; he refused to mark her because he wanted to wait for his true mate to show up, he didn't believe in chosen mates. Betty thought that was the dumbest thing she had ever heard, she didn't believe in love at first sight and laughed at the thought of being forced into a relationship with someone just because some unknown goddess told you, you had to. Little did Betty know the very next day she would be faced with the reality of someone calling her their mate.

Heading out with Jenney their first class of the day was one of the craziest of the day; they sat at the back of the class, so they could quietly talk, but their conversation was cut short when a guy with short blond hair and a model face walked in, she didn't have time to react before she was losing consciousness. Betty woke up in the infirmary with the guy from class sitting by her side, she couldn't remember what happened or how she had gotten there; he was looking at her with so much love in his eyes and it was starting to scare her.

"Where am I?"

"You are in the infirmary, you passed out and I brought you here"

"Who are you?"

"I'm Nate and..." she cut him off before he could finish his sentence.

"Oh, well I am fine now, so you can leave Nate"

"Actually, I can't, we need to talk"

"No we don't, so please leave"

"No, we are going to talk, you are my..."

"Don't say it"

"Why not? It's the truth"

"I don't believe in any of that"

"Doesn't make it not true"

Betty was done having this conversation, she called for the nurse to ask her to get him out of the room, but she refused to move, so she just kept screaming for him to get out until the room started to fill with wind, everything in the room started to lift up and fly, which made the nurse finally start to move. Dr. Fields was called in to try to get her to calm down, which did not work at all; it seemed the longer Nate was in the room, the stronger the wind became, if something wasn't done the building was going to be torn off the foundation. Finally, someone suggested that Nate leave the room to see if that would get her to calm enough for the wind to die down and eventually stop altogether, he was reluctant, but ultimately left the room and the second he did they were able to get Betty to calm down enough to be sedated. When she woke up again she was in her room back at the dorms, Mrs. Bloom was sitting next to the bed with a look of concern on her face.

"How did I get here?"

"You were moved from the infirmary"

"What happened?"

"You don't remember?"

"No, the last thing I remember was asking Nate to leave and when he refused I asked the nurse to make him leave, she wouldn't move then everything goes blank"

"You had a magical panic attack and nearly torn the building off the foundation"

"Oh my, did anyone get hurt?" she was starting to panic again.

"No, but Nate is worried about his..."

"Please don't say it"

"I know that is why you had the panic attack but you are going to have to come to terms with the fact that you somebodies..."

"No, I refuse, you can't make me"

"You are acting like a child"

"I don't care, I refuse to do it"

She didn't want to keep going down this path for fear of what might get said in anger, so she just stopped talking, even when the woman threatened to call her mother and tell her everything, she refused to say another word, she was done with this whole crazy school and wasn't going to let people force her into something she didn't want. The next few days she refused to leave her room, she knew if she did she would have to deal with everyone trying to get her to give in and do what they thought was for the best, she didn't have the energy for that. Jenney got back from class earlier than usual and looked like she wanted to run the second she saw Betty sitting at her desk; she was holding what looked like a hand mirror close to her chest, she slowly walked over to the girl studying and handed the mirror to her. Without saying a word she quickly backed out of the room and closed the door, Betty was unsure what was going on until she heard the familiar voice of someone she was hoping to never talk to again, looking down there he was looking back at her through the mirror, she almost threw the thing at the wall but remembered what her mother said about bad luck.

Feeling conflict rises in her brain she just sat there too unsure to say anything; Nate did all the talking, he told her that he wasn't going to give up on her and that she would have to see him in person sooner or later because they were going to have to have a conversation about everything, once he was done talking the mirror went back to being a mirror. Jenny walked back into the room waving her hand as a sign of surrender hoping her friend would not blow up at her for what she had done, the look of guilt all over her face.

"I know you probably hate me right now, but I had no choice, I was told by the alpha to do this and I can't refuse an order when it is given to me"

"I don't hate you, I understand"

"Why are you so against finding your true love?"

"It's not that I am against it, I just don't like the idea that I don't have a say in who I fall in love with"

"That's just it, you have the choice to get to know the person the goddess has chosen for you"

"If I agree to do this, I want to do it on my terms, I will not be forced into anything"

Both girls spent the rest of the day coming up with a plan to help Betty get her supposed mate without feeling like she was being forced into something she didn't agree with; when they were done she was ready to have that conversation with the person claiming to be her mate. She had Jenney go and deliver a message to Nate asking him to meet her for a day trip to the human world, she knew he was able to handle things in his world but she wanted to see how he handled things in hers, there were a few things she wanted clear up with him.
