***JASMINE’S POV*** “Jasmine!” I hear my mother's voice calling from a distance. I clutch Eve tightly in my arms; We were frolicking in the fading sunlight, the warm hues of the evening casting a golden glow over the meadow. My teddy bear, Eve with its worn fur and button eyes, is my best friend. "Jasmine!” She calls again. I turn towards the house, “Come here!" Bounding across the field, my bare feet barely touching the ground, I reach the porch "Go and get me some herbs, honey," she says, her voice filled with warmth. I nod eagerly. "The same ones you got yesterday." Without wasting a second, I dash back into the meadow, my feet crushing the grass beneath me. I swiftly gather the herbs, eager to reach home before it becomes night. The air grows heavy with a sense of foreboding a whispering warning that something is terribly wrong. I quicken my pace clutching the bundle of herbs tightly in my hand. Just as I'm about to step onto the familiar path, I hear screams and cries echoing from our pack house. My heart skips a beat, and a cold shiver runs down my spine. Fear grips me, twisting my stomach into knots. I know what those screams mean. It means danger, chaos, and the threat of death. Panic surges through my veins, and I break into a sprint. As I approach the pack house, I see flickering shadows dancing on the walls, the orange glow of fire casting an eerie light. It is burning, the scent of smoke fills the air, we were under attack. Our small pack was being attacked. My thoughts race as I run. I need to get inside our house. My whole family is there. Tears blur my vision, but I push on, the urgency propelling me forward. My heart sinks at the sight of enemy warriors standing guard at the entrance . Their menacing presence sends a surge of fear through my veins. Without a moment's hesitation, I change course and sprint towards the back of the house, where there is a window. “I need to get into the house” I say like a mantra. With trembling hands, I grab hold of the window ledge and hoist myself up. I peer through the glass and my breath catches in my throat. Chaos reigns within. An Alpha, a figure of terror, stands at the center of the room, his eyes ablaze with malevolence. A wicked grin spreads across his face as he brandishes his weapon, slashing at my defenseless family. A sob escapes my lips, and I find myself shouting, "Stop! Please, stop!" My voice trembling in desperation and terror, hoping against hope that my pleas will reach their cruel hearts. One of the warriors, his gaze fixated on me, turns his attention away from the c*****e and bares his crooked teeth in a twisted grin. "Come here, little girl," he taunts, extending his hand towards me. A surge of terror engulfs me, and I shrink back, a cry escaping my lips. But before he can take another step towards me, my wounded, bleeding brother dives from the shadows, tackling the warrior. His teeth sink deep into the warrior's throat, drawing blood, The warrior screams in pain. Breathing heavily, my brother weakly reaches out, holding my trembling hands. “Run” he says. Tears stream down my face as I shake my head, refusing to leave his side. "No," I cry, my voice choking with anguish. "I won't leave you here. Please, come with me." He smiles weakly, blood dripping from his lips. "Jas, go. I'll be fine. I promise, I'll come find you." His words pierce my heart, and I nod through my tears. “I can’t leave you here” I cry "Run," he urges me once more, his voice filled with determination. "I'll be fine. I promise." Reluctantly, I release his hand and place one foot on the windowsill, ready to jump down from the window and run. But as I'm about to come down, my eyes widen in horror as I see the Alpha approaching my brother. In his hand, a gleaming sword ready to strike. Time stands still as my brother's eyes meet mine, filled with love and a final flicker of hope. The sword plunges into his body, and he crumples to the ground, a pool of blood forming around him. I let out a scream at the horror. A wave of dizziness washes over me, threatening to pull me into unconsciousness. My body feels weak and frozen, but the Alpha's voice snaps me back to reality. “You’re next.” He says his sadistic smile sends chills down my spine as he takes menacing steps towards me. Without a second thought, I launch myself from the window, my survival instincts kicking in. Adrenaline fuels my every step as I sprint away from the horrors behind me, tears blurring my vision. The anguished screams of my fallen family echo in my ears. I run, my feet pounding against the ground, my heart racing with grief, fear, and a desperate longing for a life that once was. Flinging the herbs from my trembling hands my mind is clouded with fear, and all I can think about is saving my own life. Without a clear sense of direction, I stumble forward, my feet carrying me towards the dense forest. The once-familiar surroundings blur into a chaotic haze as I plunge deeper into the forest. I trip and fall, the ground scraping against my knees and palms. Tears blur my vision, mingling with sweat as they trickle down my face. My breath comes in ragged gasps, my chest heaving in exertion. Through gritted teeth, I repeat the words, "I won't give up. I won't give up," like a mantra to bolster my dwindling courage. My heart pounds in my chest, the rhythm matching the frantic beat of my feet against the earth. The sound of branches snapping and leaves rustling fills the air, mingling with the echoes of my own footsteps. In the midst of my frenzied escape, I am abruptly jolted awake. Gasping for breath, I find myself in the safety of my own bed, the nightmare dissipating. Tears linger in my eyes, my chest still heaving with remnants of fear. "What the hell," I curse, my voice trembling as I hold my chest, trying to steady my racing heart. These nightmares have been haunting me repeatedly over the past few days, refusing to stop. Each time, the terror feels just as raw, just as real, leaving me shaken to the core. I take a moment to gather myself, wiping away the remnants of tears from my cheeks refusing to let sorrow consume me. Rubbing my forehead tiredly, I try to shake off the lingering effects of the nightmare. I shut my eyes tightly, seeking a moment of respite from the images that haunt my mind. At first I felt fear after these nightmares but now the fear has morphed into anger and hatred. The knowledge that the ones responsible for the death of my family are from the Midnight pack fuels my hatred for them. I had caught a glimpse of their logo emblazoned on the chests of the enemy warriors that fateful day, etching it into my memory. With a deep breath, I mutter my daily oath to my late parents and siblings, pledging to myself that I will not rest until their deaths are avenged. “I must get vengeance.” I say I sit up from the bed and glance at my reflection in the dimly lit room groaning at my image on the mirror. The oversized shirt I wear hangs loosely on my frame. Beside the bed is an empty bottle of beer. The room is in disarray, but I pay it no mind. I grab a towel and enter the bathroom; Shampoo bottles litter the countertop, towels haphazardly strewn across the floor. I groan in frustration. "Damn it all!"
