"Go greet your father."
"No no no no, that's not father."
"It is your father damnit! Go on already."
"No, I don't want to! Mommy please don't make me." Liam cried clinging onto his mother. I did not understand what was transpiring infront of me. My first instinct was to protect Liam, if he did not want to greet his—
Father... I paused when I saw who was crunched down with arms wide open waiting for Liam to run over to him. It was not William... he had olive green eyes and dark brown hair. A wide smile on his lips. I could hear Liam crying while Lady Tracy tried to push him towards the man in-front. He looked familiar but I couldn't quite identify him. There were so many possibilities.
"Come on now my boy!" The man called gruffly for Liam who could not stop crying and fighting with his mother who was trying really hard to untangle Liam's arms from her waist. Not knowing where this voice came from, I suddenly spoke up.
"He said he does not wish to, leave him." After saying this, I immediately realized what I had done. My right hand immediately clasped over my mouth but it was already done. Liam immediately ran over to where I was standing. He wrapped his small arms around me, still sniffling. I gently caressed his blonde hair trying to comfort him and get him to calm down. Like a toddler, Liam pulled at the hem of my dress his arms gesturing that he wanted me to lift him up. I couldn't help but look down and recognize the familiarity in his green eyes... I turned back to the dominantly angry man approaching me.
I was afraid.
I gulped down a feeling of delirium.
I felt under pressure, Liam was pulling at me, this man who towered over me was approaching, Lady Tracy stared daggers at me from a distance but it seemed as if they were both getting closer and closer. My heart was unsteady. Liam suddenly pulling even harder. My head was spinning, I tried stepping back but Liam was heavily clinging onto me. The room was spinning. It didn't seem like a room, I don't know. I had never been here, I did not recognize this place. Liam's screaming became even louder, the nan approached even closer and lady Tracy muttered—
"You want to teach me parenting when your pathetic child died and you couldn't even carry full time?" She chuckled sardonically. The man followed, laughing along with her.
My eyes glistened.
I was quick to touch my stomach, it was flat. I could not feel the lively bump, I had developed. Liam kept pulling and yelling. "Carry me, carry me Nase!"
Suddenly William appeared out of no where. I felt relieved not until I realized he was holding a baby. His focus was on the baby, he had not even noticed my presence. "Tracy, he is hungry!" William said. Lady Tracy smirked as she walked over to William. My head quickly turned looking for the man who had been here only a few minutes ago. Lady Tracy took the baby but just as she did... William's eyes landed on mine.
"We're so glad you're back." He said before turning his attention back to Tracy. He gave her a perk on her temple as she nursed the baby. The baby continued to cry even as Lady Tracy was holding him. Liam suddenly wasn't there pulling at my leg. I turned around, looking around, I tried searching for William with my eyes.
"He is heating up." Lady Tracy said regarding her baby as she removed each layer of blankets covering her baby. When the baby was finally bare and small in only his dull colored onesie. My eyes watered—
"THAT'S NOT YOUR BABY!!" I yelled looking at his very very tan skin, he was crying. So small and vulnerable my heart sank when he blinked his watery eyes open.
A shade of blue.
"BRING MY BABY!!" I yelled matching towards Lady Tracy who was forcing her breast on my child. He cried even more. My heart ached.
"It's not your baby don't be silly, yours died recently." She smirked.
"WILLIAM THAT'S MY BABY!!" I yelled at William. "YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME."
William only shrugged.
I became almost aggressive as I attempted to go take my baby away from that shameless woman. I could see him crying, she kept forcing her n****e on his small lips. As he cried his lungs out, his small mouth wide and tongue visible. His small tiny hands in a fist. Whenever he cried his eyes closed. His hair was short and curly. When I thought I was getting closer—
I was pulled back.
"You're my wife! Just where do you think you're going." Elliot pulled me.
"No no no.." I yelled but he kept pulling me towards a poor looking farm house. My mother suddenly appeared standing beside him. "Good Job, Elliot."
"Mama, sh-she took my baby.." I told her.
"I gave it to her, finally I can get some sleep." My mother said with no care what so ever. Just when I was about to reply Mary pulled him aside. She had bags packed. "Let's run away Panashe! We could be together—"
"What?!" I blinked.
"This is why you should have accepted my offer." Hector said walking away.
"What offer?!"
"I'm white, I have blue eyes... it could have easily been my child and we could have helped conceal each other's secret but you're not exactly the lightest bulb around here."
"Let's go already.." Mary pulled my right hand. I was dazed.
"I can not believe you lost our child." William appeared before me shaking his head. With Tracy standing beside him, she wasn't holding a baby anymore. A boy who seemed to be around Liam's age was standing beside her. Lady Tracy was holding his hand. I immediately recognized those blue orbs but he did not look the same... he almost looked like... them. He had a light tan, his black hair straightened.
"Mommy, I don't like this hair!" He said softly reaching for Tracy's hand.
Master Joshua immediately appeared. He excitedly lifted the boy, with excitement he giggled. "There is my blue eyed champ!!" He said proudly. "Willy, this boy has been playing in the sun for too long, look at him. Almost resembling a mixed negro."
I wanted to shout and scream. Voice out my anger but I couldn't. I spoke but nothing came out. I ran but I seemed to stay in one place.
In a matter of seconds, Elliot was pulling me. "It's time for bed my dear!" He said gesturing for the small wooden bed in the corner. He stood there half naked. I looked around looking for anyone but there was no trace of anyone. It was just Elliot and I.
My heart hammered to the point I felt it would leap out of my chest.
—
"Panashe!!"
I immediately jumped up from my sleeping position, breathing and sweating heavily. My mother stared at me weirdly with her doek on. I suddenly realized it was just a dream.
"Are you alright?" She asked, with shaky hands. My hand reached for my stomach and felt my lively bump. A sigh of relief dawned onto me. My mother shook her head as she switched off the lamp going back to sleep.
I didn't dare close my eyes again.
