The Breaking Point
ARIELLE POV Happiness in the life of anyone will be empty. As Arielle stared at her phone, all she kept thinking about was where it had gone wrong. A call came from the police earlier, and they informed her about Adrian her brother, in their custody. This news comes hours after she was fired from her workplace for alleged misappropriation of company money. Arielle felt like everything was crumbling and there was nothing she could do about it. The repetitive beeping sound of the monitor and the sudden opening of a door brings her back to reality and away from her thoughts. "Are you still here?" the doctor asked in disbelief. "I need to be sure that grandma is okay" she replied, stepping away from the bed. The doctor proceeded to the bedside, taking his time while examining Arielle's grandma, and she watched him with intent. "How is she feeling, doctor?" "Her condition is stable for now" he revealed, pulling off a note from his pocket and scribbling down a couple of information. Arielle studied her grandma's condition for a brief moment. Her breathing had become stable, and it brought a spark of hope to Arielle, knowing she was going to get better. "Miss Arielle, I think you should go home and freshen up. "You have been here for several hours now", Doctor Miles said with a look of concern on his face. "But I want to be by her side, to be sure that she will be fine," she argued. "Your grandma will be fine. ""I am not satisfied seeing you look this way," he insisted, and gave a sympathetic smile. After much thought, Arielle agreed with Doctor Miles and left the ward and subsequently the hospital. The sun is out and very hot. It almost felt like the rain had not poured in years, when in reality it fell last night. As Arielle walked along the lonely road alone, she felt empty. All shekeep thinking about is how she is going to get Adrian out of prison. Approaching the muddy part of the streets, she heard the sound of a car approaching and Arielle stepped aside. As the car moved past her, it splashed so much mud on her face. "What the hell!" She screamed, staring down at her tainted muddy shirt. "You are such a stupid and reckless driver!" She yelled out in anger. The car held the breaks and made a U-turn approaching her direction. Arielle took a step backwards as the car parked properly. The door opened, and a man dressed in a black Armani suit stepped out of the car. "Are you blind?" She asked, and he remained calm, leaning his body by his car. This got her really furious. "You are such a stupid man and I can see you have no respect for road users..." The mere fact that he did not respond but remained stoic got Arielle's core stomach boiling with rage. "Or maybe you are deaf," she suggested. The man pulled out his dark shade and a beautiful pair of bright blue eyes met hers. He held no emotion on his face as he gazed at Arielle. Suddenly, he turned around and reached inside his car. He pulled out a brown envelope and dropped it in front of Arielle, taking her off guard. "That should cover your dress. Maybe next time you will learn to leave the road when you hear a car approaching." Something inside of Arielle snapped and, without thinking, her hand connected to his chin, the impact forcing him to latch onto his cheeks, as he stared at Arielle in disbelief. "You are such an arrogant fool! ""I can see you are one of these spoiled rich brats!" She did not hold her tongue back despite knowing the action was wrong. She kicked the brown envelope into the mud and walked out of him. As she walked away, Logan Lutherfold stared at her, the shock of the slap still lingering. No one has ever talked back to him. Neither has anyone dared laid a finger on his face. As Arielle moved farther away, Logan vowed to make sure she pays for laying her hands on him. When Arielle arrived at her apartment, she cast her thoughts back to the incident that happened along the road. She smiled inwardly thinking the man deserved what was coming to him. Her phone begins to ring and Arielle discovers the number had no name tag to it. "Miss Areille?" A warm feminine voice came through the receiver. "Yes?" Arielle replied with curiosity. "My name is Jessica. "I am a member of the Home and Welfare department of the state," she said. "Okay?" "We have received information that your house rent has been long overdue, and we would like to inform you that members of our department will be coming over to get your things out" The news came as a shock to Arielle. She got up from the couch and moved to the window. She pulled the curtains and several cars arrived at the premises. "Please can I at least be given a little time to talk this out with your boss?" She pleaded. "I am sorry, man, we got specific orders to get your load out of the house. "The property has been bought by someone else. "By whom?" Arielle asked, but their conversation is interrupted by a loud bang at the door. "I am guessing my team has arrived. Have a good day ma'am" "No wait!" Arielle tried to say something, but the caller had cut the phone off. She cursed underneath her voice and proceeded to get the door open. The men by the door said no words. They pushed her aside and walked into the room, pulling off several of her property. "No... Wait. "This is not fair... "Careful with the frame!" She yelled. "Sign here Miss Arielle" She turned around and a petite-looking woman mentioned, pointing to a space in her book with a pen in her hand. "Please. You cannot do this to me. There is so much going on in my life, you cannot render me homeless". Arielle struggled to hold back the tears in her eyes. "I am sorry ma'am. "There is nothing we can do about it," she replied. Arielle sighed and grabbed the pen, noting down her signature. She looked up to see half of her property already out of the house. "Just trying to be kind, your house was bought by Logan Lutherfold. He is a rich man and I think you can track him down and speak with him", she said. A spark of hope filled Arielle. If she can somehow convince him, she will be able to get her house back.
