1 year later…
It’s been a whole year since she disappeared. The first 6 months I almost lost my sanity trying to find her. I started training more and helping with the pack more, anything to get my mind off of her. The pack has been so supportive of everything, it’s been essential in keeping me going. We’ve grown in size and territory, our security has gotten better, and our warriors have gotten stronger. I’ve helped turn things around so well my parents finally gave in and officially made me Alpha a month ago. I still have people looking for Arya, but not as much as I did at first. Every now and then again someone comes with a spotting, but she always seems to disappear by the time I get to the location. I had all but given up hope until I saw her myself. I was wandering through the forest right outside downtown Los Angeles looking for any clues when she literally came out of thin air. She stopped and looked around sniffing the air when she saw me and disappeared again just as quick. The only problem is I haven’t told anyone yet, and this happened almost two months ago. I thought I could figure it out, and I have good idea what’s going on but I won’t know for sure until I have help. I’m currently waiting to hear back from my parents about a meeting.
“Meet us in the office in 1 hour” my dad links. I start my run back to the pack house to shower and change before heading there. Once I make it to his office I see his door is open so I walk in and close the door behind me.
“What is it you wanted to talk to us about?” My dad asks
“There’s something I’ve been keeping from you guys about Arya.” I confess. They give me confused looks as I continue. “I saw her a couple months ago in the Angeles National Forest. She appeared out of no where and was there for a few minutes before she saw me and disappeared just as fast.” I finished.
“Like she appeared and disappeared into thin air?” My mom ask.
“Yes.” I respond
“Could be witches, could be elves.” My father responds
“Which means she could be at the safe house” my mom adds
“Elves? Safe house?” I respond. I had automatically assumed witches, but elves?
“Yes son, there’s a safe house for any supernatural people to hide out when they run away or are banished from their homes. And I mean all supernatural people.” My dad says
“So we at least know where she is, but we don’t know where she is…” my mom trails off
“What do you mean?” I ask
“The only people that know where that safe house is, are the people in it. 4 people are in charge. And they have a lot of power to stay hidden.” My mom says. “The only way to get in is if you are really in need of it, and trust me there is no faking it.” She adds.
“Well then how am I gonna get to her?!” I almost yell. I can feel Axel getting restless knowing we’ve come so close just to be knocked back again.
“I might know someone that could help” my dad says. I don’t wanna hear might, I want a definite yes. I need to find her. I start pacing around the office, trying to come up with anything to help us.
“So is that why you’ve spent so much time out there? And started having scouts run through there in shifts??” My mom asks.
“Yes. But not to just look for her, I have them looking for anybody. And they are discreet, masking their scents before going, we have a whole system” I explain.
“That’s a good start. How often do they check in?” My father ask
“Every hour.” I respond
“Change it to every 3 hours for now, you saw her a couple months ago and she saw you, if she reported it to the higher up’s she won’t be coming back for at least 3 months, no one there would honestly.” He says. Of course there’s more waiting. Hopefully something happens sooner.
Arya’s POV
Everything has been going pretty good here. Jax and Lorna have been really helpful with me getting comfortable with everything. I’ve learned so much about dragons and everything thing that comes with being a dragon. Onyx has also been helpful with teaching me my family history. Shadow and I have been getting stronger ourselves. We go on runs whenever we can and we have a great relationship. It’s been 2 months since my eighteenth birthday, and since I saw Maverick. I decided to go out into the city for my birthday when I immediately got hit with the smell of coffee and caramel as soon as I crossed the portal. Shadow went crazy and directed me to the smell. Only when I got to the source, it was Maverick. I panicked and crossed back over the portal, hoping he didn’t remember me.
“But he’s our mate. Of course he will remember us.” Shadow says. She’s got a point. Plus he’s older so he probably already knows I’m his mate. But wait a minute, what about Jax? I know we haven’t put a label on us, but at the same time we are pretty much exclusive. Plus he’s my sire, so how do I somehow have a mate? This doesn’t make any sense…
I haven’t told anyone about my run in with Maverick. I know I should, but how will everyone react? I should definitely let them know. Maybe they will have better ideas on this whole mate thing. I make my way up to their office. I think they said they had a meeting, so I just need to chill outside the office until one of them makes an appearance. When I get there, I see Angel is waiting outside the office for something. Angel is a seer, so maybe he had a vision that I would be coming.
“I’ve been waiting for you. Ready to let us know what’s going on?” He calmly asks.
“Yes, it’s definitely worth sharing.” I respond.
He leads me into the office where everyone else is. As soon as Jax sees me he comes over to me, concern written all over his face.
“Is everything alright?” He asks
“There’s something I need to talk to you guys about.” I respond. He directs me to a chair near his as everyone else wraps up their conversations to hear what I have to say. Once they are all settled, Lexi gives me the ok to speak.
“Ok, so on my birthday I went into the city to explore and find something fun to do like you suggested. Only when I got to the other side of the portal, I smelled my mate…” I say, I take a look at Jax out of the corner of my eye, I can’t read any kind of emotion from him though. “It was Maverick Danvers from Silver Springs Pack, but I’m mostly confused about him being my mate since I already have one.” I finish.
“Ah so you’re the mate he has so desperately be looking for all this time…” Lexi says
“He’s been looking for me? Since when?” I question.
“Since around the time you arrived.” Angel continues. “He made quite a fuss over it too, at one point everyone thought he was gonna go mad and never get his title. Luckily he was able to turn it around and get his title, along with improving the pack.” He adds.
“But how is he my mate? I already have one.” I say
“You are a dragon, you’ll live for thousands of years and have different mates throughout your life. Some you’ll have at the same time. You do have an entire race to build back up.” Jax chuckles at the last part
“Thousands of years?!” I exclaim
“Yes dear, and with you being the first in thousands of years, who knows how long you’ll actually live.” Lexi adds
“Don’t forget her wolf either. She’s quite powerful herself having absorbed some power from the dragon.” Lorna adds. “I wish you’d bring them out more often.” She says
“So now what? Do I let him know where I am? Isn’t he gonna want me to start training to be his Luna? How would that even work?” It’s like the questions are pouring out of me and I can’t stop them.
“Calm down, no need to get all worked up.” Jax says while rubbing my back. “Maybe we can bring him here and get him up to speed on everything that’s been going on since you left. If anything, they might be able to help us.” He adds.
“Maybe two of us should approach him. My father was friends with his father, so they know of this place.” Lexi suggests
“And once we can trust that their pack is safe, maybe you can stay there. Only if you want.” Jax adds.
It’s a lot to think about. Especially this having two mates thing. If only Monica was here now, I’m sure she would have plenty to say about this. After we finished talking we all went our separate ways. Lexi decided to take Angel with her to talk to Maverick so now I just have to wait and see how the conversation goes. All this new information has definitely made me tired so I tell Jax that I’m gonna lay down for a bit. Hopefully everything goes well.
