I smile and look over at my sister as she hollers for a waitress. Our friend, Maria, walks over in a plaid uniform with a usual apron and an ever-present smile. I smile back at her as she asks Adrien, Samantha, and I if we want the usual and I nod as she turns towards Christian and stares.
“And what would you like?” Her lips pierce together gawking at him as I look away at Samantha. She understands how I’m feeling and grabs Adrien holding onto him as she wraps his arm around her. He smiles and holds onto her freely.
Christian finally speaks up turning back in the booth to sit beside me instead of his back towards me. “I guess I’ll have whatever she’s having. I mean, she seems like the type to have a peculiar taste.” My sister who was currently drinking her bottled water, chokes holding back her laughter.
Adrien rubs her back as he smiles, I guess trying not to laugh like Samantha. “Thanks, I think?” I stare back at him as I reach across the table and patting Samantha’s back as well. Christian smiles warmly towards us, and I giggle lightly as Maria walks away towards the kitchen. Soon enough, Samantha is rubbing her chest, coughing a little then turns towards Christian.
“So, “she clears her throat. “Why did you move down here? Was it because of work?”
“No, actually, my father works down here and he had a stroke recently so my sister, Kaley, my brother, Kameron, and I moved down her to take care of him. Of course, my older brother was already getting ready to move down her and bought a house near our father. My sister and I decided to live together and split the rent since we didn’t know how long we will be here. Either way, we plan on staying until our father is in full health.”
Samantha stares smiling and turns towards me then cups her hands over her mouth and mouths towards me, ‘He’s a good guy!’ I blush as she turns towards Christian once more as I stare at Christian as well. “Well what about your mother? Where is she?”
Christian sighs and looks over at me with a sad look as I understand and look down. My sister notices and she stares intently at Christian. He turns his gaze back towards my sister as if he was lifting a weight off of me. “She died last year of leukemia.” He clears his throat and keeps talking smoothly. “She wouldn’t let the doctors treat it because she wanted to die ‘with dignity’, she said. She rather die than lose it.” He pulls out a necklace the shape of a snowflake from under his shirt. “This is one of the only things I have left that help me remember her. I also have hers and fathers wedding bands. My sister got the house they once lived in and my brother got the wealth. We didn’t really mind what we got as long as we got something to remember she existed. Of course, my brother got something other than the wealth to remember her by but he never told us what. I think he got the music items she owned.” He smiles as our food comes over and grabs the plate that was moved towards me showing hot wings with a special dip. He passes me the plate then grabs his plate as her stares down at the sauce that is on the side. “What is this?”
I laugh as my sister speaks up staring at Christian understanding his feelings and stares down at the sauce. “That’s Lynn’s special dip. She made it herself.” He turns towards me and stares as I look away slightly laughing.
“You asked for what I have. Don’t judge it before you try it. My sister judged it and now she can’t get enough of it. See?” I point at the dip on her plate with her hamburger and fries along with Adrien’s dish. Christian grabs a wing and stares down at the sauce and dips part of the wing and eats it. He smiles happily chewing as he stares at me and swallows.
“What’s the ingredients?” I shake my head.
“Lynn won’t tell anyone what’s in it. Not even me, and I’m her twin. Convenient, am I right?” She laughs as begins eating along with me and Adrien. Christian keeps eating happily as I smile.
I stare at him after I finish eating and asks, “What do you do for a living?” He looks over at me surprised then whips his mouth.
“I’m a writer. My editor said that I can just send him an email holding the books I write. I just need to keep him edited with my books and chapters. You know, like what I’m working on?” I gawk remembering something from work.
“Wait, are you Christian Murry?” Samantha, Adrien, and Christian look at me confused as Christian nods.
“Yeah, why?”
“My office has been talking about your new book. They want me to get you to allow us to sell it. I kept telling them that you already have people to sell your books but they won’t listen.” He laughs as I see one of my coworkers walk into the restaurant. “Can I get out for a moment?” I look at Chris from the corner of my eye. He gets up, letting me out as I run towards my coworker.
“What’s wrong?”
“Lynn, you need to come to the office right now. The office manager is asking for you right this instant. We need to hurry.”
“Calm down, what happened?” I say softly to try and calm him down.
“He is asking for you personally. The man who owns the company. The big guy. The head of our world. He’s asking for you personally. We don’t know what he wants, but he wants you right now.” I nod and run over to the others.
“I’m sorry, but I have to go to the office for a few moments. I’ll be right back.” I turn towards Samantha and Adrien. “Watch him alright? Please?” They nod as I look back at Christian. “I’m so sorry. I promise I’ll be back.” Grabs a napkin and writes down my phone number. “If you need me just call this number. It’s my actual phone number. Christian nods and stares as I rush off with my coworker. I get in his car as he drives off and we leave towards the office. I run inside the office as I see the company’s owner and I stare at him.
“You wanted to see me?” The business man turns around showing a male with brown hair, slightly green eyes with cream colored skin in a navy blue business suit. I blush realizing who it is. “Cameron?!” I scream surprised as everyone stares at us.
“So it was you. I thought it was someone with the same name as you. I guess it isn’t.” He runs his hand through his hair as I notice his hair has some highlights of purple like he did back in high school. As I recall this I think back to what he looked like when we were in high school. An image of Cameron with a silver mohawk and purple strands, him wearing a black shirt with a skull on it, and worn out black ripped jeans along with one piercing on his left earlobe flashes in my head. I laugh at the thought and shake my head. “What are you thinking about?” He randomly asks as I instantly look up at him.
“Oh nothing, just the usual. Work, my sister, my family, those kinds of things.” I giggle.
“Didn’t your father and brother die a few years back?” He says back as I instantly look down and sigh. Nodding slightly not wishing to speak anymore. I begin to leave sad, not caring as he calls out to me then all I feel is a hand on my shoulder as I’m pulled to turn around and then I feel the warmth of a hug as his arms wrap around me. I glance up at him to see that his eyes are closed, and his face shows that of a sad woodland creature. I stare amazed that such a man can create such a face.
