Chapter Five- Highway to Hell

1549 Words
Having fled from the motel that nearly took both of their lives, Declan and Autumn managed to make their way about half way down the road before the sound of sirens could be heard echoing behind them. Autumn used the mirrors on either side of her to try and learn what she could about the car behind her so she could try and lose them. Unfortunately, the Spanish terrain that surrounded her had been rather straight, dipping away every so often into a different location-but having existed without high mountains or even trees to block any view. It was clear, however, due to the low fuel they had upon the motorbike they had decided to ‘borrow’, that they were running out of time and would be quickly apprehended-unless they came up with another idea. Declan continued to look behind him, clinging onto Autumn as she weaved in and out of the lanes, passing other motorists every so often. Some honked, some flipped her off, and others took out their phones and began recording the chase-wanting to get views on their social media pages upon recording it live. Autumn remained focused on both the road in front of her and the cars, that had now doubled since she had arrived on the open highway.  “You need to take the throttle!” She called out as a large smile came over Declan’s face.  “We can’t exactly pull over, amor!” He was forced to speak loudly over the sound of the air trying to deafen them-along with the sirens echoing behind them. She nodded, taking his hand from around her waist and bringing it to the handle that kept the bike steady as well as in motion. She waited until he had both hands on the handles that angled the bike into its straight direction before working her legs over his own. The wind had forced her dress to rip into the space behind her, as her legs entangled within his own as he attempted to focus on the road before him. He became distracted by the sensual silhouette that made its way around him, having clung onto him rather unconventionally as she turned to face the cops.  “You wouldn’t still have that gun, would you?” “Estas loca?” He called to her, making her slightly glare from having only understood half of his native tongue. “You think shooting at the authorities is a wise move?” “I wasn’t going to shoot at them, I was going to use the bullets to give them a flat tire…” He suddenly refocused his gaze on the road before him as she then made her way through his pockets. Having done this, she was able to feel the exact outline of his entire body-how perfectly it had felt beneath her touch. If not for the fact he gave the illusion of being dangerous to her, she would have taken a moment with him while alone in the hotel with him. The thought had even crossed her mind now, but of course, she was already pushing the boundaries upon having forced herself backwards as he continued to ride forward.  “Whatever you are doing, do it quick, we have less than five miles…” He commented as she finally came upon a coin from deep within his pocket. Pulling it to view, she gave herself a self-assertive smirk, before then making her way to the front panel of the bike. Each moment she spent using the coin upon the bolts that held the glass in place, she knew she was forcing them to risk being caught by simply running out of gas. Yet, her idea had been the only one active she could have used, and so she focused on the task at hand, making it to the final bolt before dropping the coin deep within the mechanics of the bike.  “Maldicion!” Declan spoke a curse in Spanish as he then quickly used his strength to pull the last bolt free, cracking half of the glass in its process.  “Dos minutos!” Declan reminded her upon holding up two fingers. Luckily, she was able to understand this warning before taking the glass windshield and placing it within a portion of her dress. Using the fabric of her dress to soften the blow that broken glass would cause her hands, she began to squeeze it tight just before it broke within her touch. A few points poked through the fabric, making her wince, before she focused upon the cars behind her. By now, four had been hot on their trail, the sirens blaring at full force as some had even ended up directly beside them. However, as she held onto Declan, she lowered herself just enough to place the shards of glass beneath the tires of upcoming cars, allowing at least two of them two have blown out their tires.  “Uno minutos!” Declan called out to her as she looked to the gauge upon the front of the bike, noting that the fuel gauge had been flashing, indicating being low on gas. Luckily, they had managed to make it into the heart of Madrid at a time of the night where couples were enjoying the sight beneath the stars as well as groups making their way to and from businesses, clubs, and bars. Having taken the small motor vehicle through the narrow alleyways that were impossible for the cars to have followed, they were allowed a few moments to dispose of evidence as they removed themselves from the vehicle. As it laid upon the ground, Declan removed his shoe, and then his sock, pulling it over the majority of the bike-ignoring the pipes that remained hot. He looked to Autumn to find her to look at him as if he lost he last to cells of reason set within his mind.  “It allows them to be thrown off by planting unimportant evidence…” He commented as she slowly nodded before being pulled into the crowd of people via Declan’s devoted force. The sight of the Spanish police, dressed in dark clothing accented with neon portions that spelled out Policia and Police for both locals and tourists to understand who they had been. Due to this, they were able to gain a viable sight of them having investigated the crowd, seemingly checking each couple for those they had been chasing for the last thirty miles into this bustling part of the town. With the police moving closer and closer to them, Declan and Autumn both looked for somewhere they could venture into in order to hide, knowing they were both on the wanted list of the local police at this time. There wouldn’t be a single cop that would be unaware of their appearances -so they simply had to lay low for the night away from the cops until they could get out of the city. The thought ran through both of their minds as they each found individual places they could hide-pulling the other person towards their desired destination. For Declan, it had been a raging night club, and for Autumn, it had been a quiet library. Perhaps this encompassed their personalities by these very choices-a detail that was overlooked by them at this time.  “Por favor, amor…” Declan pleaded with her as she nodded, allowing herself to be torn from the crowd and into the club, where they made their way onto the dance floor. As they began to dance to a mix of English and Spanish music, they knew they would be unable to remain in their current clothes as they would be spotted too easily. Due to this, Declan made his way to his knees, pulling Autumn’s dress close to his grip, before tearing it until it had been knee high instead of floor length. He then removed the tie around her bodice and set it within her hair, tying it as many girls in the club had it done. Following this, Autumn took it upon herself to do the same to Declan. However, instead of tearing off his clothing or attempting to steal someone else’s-they quickly stole unattended drinks and splashed it upon the shirt to make it appear like a design. Then, they she took his jeans, using a cocktail sword to cut holes in them-making his perfectly desirable appearance to turn into one desired by every millennial. They both smiled at the fact the police moved directly past them, seemingly unaware of their ability to blend into the crowd so well. Because of this, they actually became lost in the music-having begun to enjoy the way they danced together along with the beat to the current song sourcing throughout the club. So much so, that they both fell into the characters that they had been playing roles of. Declan set his hand upon her waist, assisting in her twisting around him, as she set her arms over his shoulders-knowing it would only cause trouble-but allowing the adrenaline to mix with her s****l frustration and releasing any fear in this specific moment.
