Episode 1: The Unexpected Contract Episode
Aelin's life had always been about survival. She balanced two part‑time jobs while caring for her younger brother and shielding her ailing father from worries he could no longer handle. The bakery where she worked paid barely enough for rent and medicine, but she clung to the job because it allowed her to bring home day‑old bread that would otherwise be thrown away. Their one‑room apartment was a constant reminder that fairy tales belonged in storybooks, not in the lives of people like her.
On a rainy evening, everything changed. A stranger in a tailored suit showed up at their door just as Aelin was mopping the floor. "Miss Aelin Parker?" he asked, his tone clipped and professional. "I represent Mr. Damian Stone." The name made her heart stutter. Damian Stone was a billionaire CEO whose face graced magazine covers and digital billboards. Rumor had it he was as ruthless in business as he was handsome.
"You have the wrong address," Aelin said automatically. She didn't belong in the same sentence as a man like that. The stranger’s expression didn't waver. "Your father owes our company a sizeable debt. Mr. Stone is prepared to clear it in full, but there are conditions."
Aelin's father emerged from the bedroom, coughing. "Aelin, listen," he rasped, panic flickering in his eyes. "This is our only chance." Her pulse thundered as the man in the suit slid a thick envelope across the table. Inside was a contract. In exchange for wiping away her family’s debt, she had to marry Damian Stone for one year and agree to a list of rules that made her stomach twist. "This isn't a marriage," the stranger said. "It's a mutually beneficial arrangement. No love, no questions. Once the year ends, you go your separate ways."
Aelin's mind raced. Debt collectors would hound them for life if she refused. If she accepted, she would bind herself to a man she didn't know for reasons she couldn't fathom. As her father's pleading gaze met hers, she understood there was no real choice at all.
She pressed trembling fingers to the signature line, whispered a silent apology to whatever dreams she still had, and signed her name. Damian Stone might be a stranger, but he had just bought a year of her life. What Aelin didn't know was that she had also stepped into a world ruled by wolves and fates, a world that would change everything.
