I knew something bad was about to happen the moment Kieran parked the car in front of Dimitri's massive mansion.
The night seemed darker than usual, as if even the moon was hiding from everything that was to come.
“Why are we here?”, I ask, although a part of me already knows the answer.
Kieran doesn't answer immediately. He just gets out of the car, walks around, and opens the door on my side.
His face is grim, marked by the worry he tries to hide, but I know it too well to ignore.
“You’ll stay here, Scarlett.", he says, his voice low but firm.
My heart tightens.
“What? No! You can't leave me here.”
He places his hands on my shoulders, forcing me to look directly into his intense eyes.
“I need you to be safe.”
