Chapter 4Lola's POV A growl leaves my mouth before I can help it and it leaves me shocked. I didn't know I can make that sound. I feel stupid as that thought registers in my head. Of course, I can let out a growl. I'm a f*****g wolf.'Israel is our fated mate. We're meant to be with him,' Fiona says, practically sighing as she says his name.Disgust curls up inside me. 'I know you just arrived today but here's one thing that you need to know. Israel is not someone that we want as a mate!'I inwardly shiver at the thought of becoming the Luna of his pack and ruling by his side. It will be a f*****g nightmare. Why does the Moon goddess see fit to ruin my life? Is this just some amusement to her? Maybe she's bored and decided to see how exciting things will go if I'm paired up with the person I hate the most in the entire world. She's probably sitting on her gold chair, sipping a glass of wine and watching as every crumbles all around me.I got my dream and also got my nightmare all in one day. f*****g fantastic! What am I going to do?'Let's go back to the pack house and talk with Israel. He will explain everything to us,' Fiona begsIf I was in human form, I would shake my head at her naivety. What is he going to do to make the years that he abused and hurt us understandable? There's nothing that's going to wipe away years of maltreatment and torment.'Let's give him another chance. He probably has a good reason for the way he treated us.' She whines. 'Zach wouldn't purposely hurt us.''Zach?" I ask, confusion clouding my head. Who is Zach and how did he get into this conversation?'Israel's wolf. His name is Zach,' she breathes out.'How did you know that?' I marvel. I've been in that pack house for more than a year and I don't know Israel's wolf name. Neither does anyone else in the house. At least, none that I know of.'The Moon goddess told me. She also said that we're going to have to fight for them and our happily ever after.'Fight for them? It seems like she didn't get the memo that I'm a weakling. I definitely won't be doing any fighting.'Please, let's just talk to them and hear what they have to say,' she begs again.I inwardly sigh. 'I'm doing this for you.''Thank you!' she squeals.I sigh again. 'How do I shift back?' I ask, looking at the reflection of my wolf form in the water. There's no way that I'm going to be able to have a conversation with Israel in this state.'Close your eyes and imagine your human form,' she answers softly.I follow her words, shutting my eyes and picturing my raven hair, green eyes, hands, and feet. I feel my bones shifting without the immense pain that came with the first time. I open my eyes when I feel the sand between my toes.I'm naked. I definitely forgot about that tiny detail. Thankfully, I've come here so much that I've stashed away some clothes behind the bushes just in I get myself wet with my clothes on. Something that happens a whole lot more than it should.I reach into the bushes and pull out the clothes, frowning as I bring the ripped fabrics to my face. It seems an animal has gotten to them before I could but they are all I have. So, I close my eyes and pull on the torn clothes which consist of a ripped jean and a t-shirt that was thankfully spared.Barefoot, I begin the journey back to the pack house, talking with Fiona along the way.As we draw closer to the pack house, I squint my eyes at the bright lights coming from the house. With the pack house finally in my line of view, I look at the decorations and cars parked outside the house in confusion, wondering what has occurred in the short time that I've been away.I stop at the front door, listening to the chatters on the other side. It seems like the pack house is filled with people. Is there an event for today that I don't know about? Then it clicks and I groan out loud. Israel has a yearly party that is always held at the pack house. He only invites the best and most powerful wolves with an approach to getting on their good side. It's an event that is prepared with ultimate care and precision. An event that I'm meant to be currently working in. I'm so screwed.I change my direction, going around the house to sneak in through the back door. It will still lead me into the room where the party is being held but at least it's closer to the basement where I'm hoping to escape into.Opening the door softly, I slip in and keep my head to the ground, not making eye contact with anyone. I just have to find a way into the basement, quickly get cleaned up and then blend in with the servers like I've been here the entire time.Just as I inch closer to the door leading into the basement, I hear a voice that sends chills down my spine. A voice belonging to Israel. The entire house is silent, everyone's gaze is trained on Israel standing in the middle of the room and gazing lovingly into the eyes of a girl I've never seen before."Julie, will you do me the honor of being my Luna and standing by my side in ruling this pack?" The words slide out of his lips easily like it's the most natural thing in the world to him.The beautiful lady dressed in red smiles up at him, her perfect porcelain skin complementing Israel's golden skin. "Yes," she says, her hands going up and snaking around his neck. "I would love to be your Luna."Something shatters. It could have been my heart or just the wine glasses falling from the hands of the server that I just crashed into.Whatever it is, it makes my brain start functioning again and it also makes my words start flowing out without any thought."No!" I yell and dark blue eyes pierce into me, pinning me down to where I stand.
