CHAPTER-TWO

799 Words
My human form looks more fragile than I can remember. I guess that’s what happens when your wolf is battered beyond repair. It’s just so much safer to heal in your human form and give your wolf enough time to rest. Kate leans beside me on a tree, as we watch the whole pack tend to each other’s wounds. Some as humans, more as wolves. They have to remain as wolves since they guard the park against surprise attacks like the one we just had. Kate sighs deeply beside me, and even though our skins are exposed from the bra top and shorts we’re on, we’re too exhausted to bother. Hatred, rage, and everything evil fills my heart for the Black Alpha and the surprise attack he pulled on us. After Kate let out that howl, we saw other wolves emerge from the woods, with the intent of killing. Two strong males stood with the Silver Alpha of our pack to fight against the Black Alpha while the rest of us, as if on cue, ran towards the woods to defend the pack. It was a war the pack was not prepared for. Kate and I fought with our backs facing each other for defense, but we sustained more wounds than we inflicted. Kate’s wolf was bitten on her head, and I have deep bruises all over my body that may take weeks to heal. I hear unfamiliar footsteps on the ground, but almost ignore them when Kate hits me a bit too aggressively. “It’s the elders”, she whispers in a hushed tone, and I gather my remaining strength to stand in respect for the guardians of our pack. Alaric, the oldest male in the pack with his bloodied hood, approaches the middle of the arena, with his sister, Azula, by his side. Beside them, a man who looks older than his height portrays, walks as gracefully as ever, with a charming smile, and his arms locked around a woman of the same age and appearance. They appear more like a couple than siblings. Everyone lowers their heads in respect of the four elders who stopped the fight. My head stays down till I see a silver and bloodied black fur following closely behind the elders. I tilted my head discreetly to look at the Silver Wolf who saved my life, and when his eyes met mine, I could have sworn his wolf nodded approvingly as he looked away. I noticed blue eyes on me, and I would have loved to admire them, but they belonged to a certain Black Alpha who almost destroyed my pack. His eyes are oceanic blue, crystal pupils, and I find myself staring at him, letting him stare deeper into my soul. “I should bow'' I remind myself, but if anything, this Black Wolf deserves no ounce of my respect. I straighten my frame and my neck, as I engage the Black Alpha in a stare contest, an act that might cost me my head. He stares back, amusement, perhaps, spread across his wolf’s expression. Kate notices I'm not bowing and hits my arm softly, but I don't budge. “A bit of arrogance… Would cost you your head”. My heart jumps to my throat when I hear Alaric’s voice in my head, and diverts my attention to him. He gave me a stern look and I backed off immediately, putting my head down to show respect. If Alaric gets angry with me, neither Silver nor Black can save my head. Not ten packs joined together could stop Alaric from tearing me apart if he wanted to. He is a Gamma Wolf after all, with four times the strength of the best Alpha males. “Rise”, Azula says, ignoring the tension between Black, I, and Alaric. All the pack members lift their heads. I have always admired Azula for her commanding tone. She doesn’t just order people around, somehow she earns your deep respect. Kate gasps beside me, and I'm getting sick of hearing her make those sounds. It’s never a good sign. Everyone’s attention diverts behind the Gamma wolves and the males take a defensive stance, while the females take a step back. The Black Alpha wolves decided to join the parade. I notice that none of their eyes are brown or black like the normal average wolves, like our pack. They all had silver eyes regardless of the colors of their fur. They looked beautiful but not as magnificent as their black, blue-eyed Alpha. “Snap out of it, Alex”. I give myself a mental smack and resume my brooding hatred for the whole pack. With two packs in our arena, the clouds began to gather again. Would there be another bloodshed?
