“Just how unlucky you could get to get into this kind of situation on your way to school driving in your favorite car. And most of all, you are about be released after waking up without anything wrong that could be defects from the brain surgery you had. You even woke up smiling but just having a hard time of talking as one of the post ops signs of the surgery you had.” Catherine thought to herself and straightened herself. “Good morning Dr. Altman.” The same intern said greeting Henry who passes by in front of Catherine’s office. “Good morning.” Henry said back that the intern took as a sign and walk away from Catherine’s office. Henry looks at the intern and around, seems like checking and making sure that is no one around that now no one is, he leans towards the glass part of Catherine’s door giving him a sight of her scrolling through her phone completely unaware of Henry’s presence in front of her door looking at her, staring at her and examining her in every second and in every way possible. “It seems that the world is on your shoulder.” Henry mumbled to himself but loud enough to make Catherine’s head started to move. It shook him enough and frightened him that he quickly and swiftly moved away from anywhere she could see him and run away catching his breath at the very first corner he reached. “That was so close.” He mumbled while catching his breath in his own office. Where he settled himself as well, putting his bag inside of his locker so as his jacket and outing on his white lab coat with his name on it. He takes a deep breath and started going through of the folders on his desk his post ops that are needed to be his signatures for discharge and he needs to do that before his rounds of them and the ones not yet operated. So, he started it as he picks up his pen and started reading the last reports and signed them. Or that was what he is supposedly doing until he reached for the third one where he stopped moving and reading, lifting his head up and stare to nowhere. “That’s it!” Henry heard Catherine’s voice and soon footsteps coming near his office that has woken him up from his thoughts that are about to wonder off by itself. He waits for something to happen and is shock by a knock on his door and quickly swung open before he could say towards the person to enter. “Good morning Dr. Altman. Am I disturbing you? I am sorry but I have something to ask you about.” Catherine said that shock Henry when it is her who popped out from his door and the fact that she keeps on talking without stopping even to give him a moment to answer her supposedly questions. “No and yes, what is it?” Henry said after a few moments of silence, regulating if she is done and decided to let him answer him. “Our Jan Doe. We did not do an angiography right?” She started walking closer towards him. “We did not since we focus on his head that is bleeding from inside. Should have done one?” Henry said. “I guess now that we found a scar on his chest and the fact that he coded this morning.” Catherine said. “I heard and I did not worry since they said they called you right away although I came as well.” Henry said back. “What do you think is the situation then?” Henry added standing up from his seat and walks closely to her meeting each other in between. “I do not want to open him up, but I know something happened in the past inside his chest that led to what happened this morning after his accident. And since we do not know anything about him, aside from he has a beating heart that left me the impression of a transplant by the scar so I want to do an angio and to focus with his heart.” Catherine said non stop once again while Henry just looks at her vaguely listening. “He is your patient so I came to tell you that I should and want to step in.” Catherine added looking at him properly and eagerly waiting for his answer. Being Henry the first surgeon he got when he first came, it made him his primary physician and so he needs to know everything about his patient both happened and the yet to happen making Catherine telling him that she wants to step in as a necessary thing for her to do. “Well, as long as we could save him then I do not have to say no to you, do I?” Henry said. Catherine smiled and nods before she said that she needs to leave so she could start of what she should do with their Jan Doe walking back to the door which she twisted the door knob and opened it. “I will let you know if anything comes.” She said right after stepping half way of exiting his office. “I hope something to celebrate about.” Henry said with a smile. Which received a smile back from Catherine before she completely vanishes from his sight at the same time of his door light bang, completely closing. “So, I could finally have a drink with you tonight.” Henry mumbled still looking to his door seemingly meant for Catherine to hear, the rest of the last thing she heard from him before she completely left him staring to his door. Henry smiled before he walked back to his seat and this time started working for real, going through the previous pieces of papers on his table and signing the ones that should be signed. After a few minutes, his phone rang and so is his door suddenly made a sound from someone knocking on it again. “Coming.” He said, turning off his phone’s alarm and putting on his white ab coat before he walks towards his door which he opened and greeted by the intern who is under his service this week. “Start.” Henry said towards the intern as they both walk towards the post-ops patients’ floor while the intern keeps on talking presenting the situations before he gives them his words that they could be discharge or have to stay a little longer for more monitoring to be done.
