CHAPTER 34 I’m up with the crowing of the cockerel. Next to me Joel is fast asleep. I wriggle back into my pyjamas, careful not to wake him. With one last look at his handsome frame I pad across to the door and softly close it behind me. I tiptoe down the rickety staircase and am just at the bottom step when I see Mrs Potter marching down the corridor. Help! There’s no where to hide. She’s seen me anyway, there’s a disapproving look on her face. “Morning,” I squeak. “I’m just getting some exercise.” I wince at my feeble fib. “Good morning,” she says curtly. “I trust you slept well.” She goes to move past me. “I didn’t actually Mrs Potter,” the memories of pre Joel flash into my mind. “I was woken last night by odd noises in my room and someone was out there in the gardens.”
