Sam’s POV
I spent the next two days laying on my cot. I couldn’t move. Alpha Aarom made good on his promise and I learned to never go against him again. He made me regret even being alive. I wanted nothing more than to die. He took my innocence and beat me until I was unconscious.
The door to his closet was thrown open, and he stood in the doorway “get up, you have chores,” he growled out and I rolled my sore body up and sat on the edge of my cot. I pulled some clean clothes off my little pile and slipped them on, and walked out to the bedroom.
“I want the ballroom cleaned today.”
“Yes sir,” I told him as I kept my eyes down. I couldn’t look at this man or I would cry again.
“I am announcing my engagement to Amelia and you will take care of anything she wants.”
“Does that mean,” I started to ask him if he was going to finally reject me but I stopped because I knew what would happen if I finished that question.
“No, I will not reject you. She knows you're my mate, and she has agreed to not be marked, so you can feel when I make love to her. You will be our nanny when she gives me pups and you will watch as I make this woman my life. You will know what it is like to have to stand by watch and not get everything because of your w***e of a mother.”
I didn’t say anything and just wiped the tear that ran down my face. I walked out of the room and headed straight to the ballroom. It really wasn’t that dirty, but the floor could use a good mopping. I was taking a survey of everything else that could be done when Amelia walked in.
“I want the whole place cleaned from top to bottom and you have until Thursday to do it, along with your other chores.”
“I will,” I told her, not even looking at her. I could hear her heels click on the floor as she left, and I went and got started by pushing the tables back into their places. After I got all the tables pushed out of the way, I went to get the broom that we use on this floor. I had to go out into the hall and the cleaning closet when I saw Ann.
“Sam, where have you been?” she asked as she ran up to me, but I kept my head down because I still had bruises that lingered and I couldn’t look at her because I would lose it if I did.
“Sorry, I have to clean the ballroom,” I told her and walked off, but it wasn’t that easy. She followed me.
“Sam, what the hell happened? You have been ignoring me for two days and I haven’t seen you either. I’ve covered your chores. Are you ok?”
“Please don’t ask me that, Anne. I can’t answer. Please, just let me be right now,” I told her and then slipped into the closet.
I grabbed the broom I needed and when I came out of the closet, Anne was gone. I went back to the ballroom and started cleaning. I had been in here for several hours when Amelia walked back in.
“Don’t forget to polish the wood on the stage. I want to be able to see myself on the stage,” she snapped.
“I will.”
“Also, don’t forget the walls.”
“I won’t.”
I had yet to look at her and I wasn’t going to either. I would just do whatever was needed anymore and never open my mouth or disobey again. I can’t go through that again. I wouldn’t survive it. I put my cleaning supplies away for now as I had to go help in the kitchen for dinner.
I walked in and everyone shut up when I did.
“What are we making tonight?” I asked.
“Grilled chicken and potatoes with salad and bread.” The head cook said.
“OK, what would you like me to work on?”
“You can start with prepping the potatoes.”
I didn’t say anything else, but Anne came up and started helping me with potatoes. She didn’t say anything either, but it felt nice just having her there with me.
After dinner was ready, I went back to ballroom and went back to cleaning. There was no way of cleaning the walls. I mean I could, but only so far up, I couldn’t reach the top even with a ladder. I got the mop out and started mopping and I would let it dry overnight and tomorrow I could polish the stage like she wants. I was halfway through mopping when Anne stepped into the room and walked over to me.
“What are you doing and you didn’t eat dinner?”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Why are you cleaning the ballroom?”
“Because Alpha Aaron and Amelia want it polished so they can announce their engagement.”
“Sam, I am so sorry. Does that mean he is finally going to let you go?”
As soon as she said that, I let my walls down for just a minute and started crying and told her everything. This would be the one time that I allowed this. After this, I would lock it back up and never talk about it again. She hugged me tightly and for just a second, I felt better.
“Come on, I will help you with the dishes,” she said as started to drag me away from here.
“No, you can’t and you know that, and I am not risking them seeing you in there.”
“I help you all the time. They never say anything.”
“Things have changed now.”
“Fine, I will go finish mopping for you.”
“Please don’t just go to your room.”
“I hate leaving you to do all that work.”
“It’s fine Anne. Please, just don’t make it worse on me.”
She hugged me again and then walked away. I stepped into the kitchen and I could see that someone had started for me. I am sure that it Anne. We used as much disposable dishes as we could so it wasn’t horrible the amount I had to do but I had to clean up the dining room as well. I walked out there to get the dishes that held the food so that I could get them soaking and then back out to the dining room and cleaned it up. Wiping all the tables and then sweeping up the food on the floor, and then ran the mop over the floor. Then headed back into the kitchen and washed the dishes and cleaned the counters. Once I was done in there, I headed back to the ballroom and finished mopping the floor.
By the time I was done with everything, it was one am and I was exhausted. I headed up to the Alpha’s room, and I was ready to crawl into my little cot and sleep. I knocked on the door and waited for him to tell me to come in. I knew he was in there. It took him forever to open the door, but he looked pissed when he did.
“Where were you?”
“Cleaning, sir.”
He just opened the door further, and I went straight to the closet and stripped my clothes off and put on a t-shirt and pulled my covers back and slipped inside them. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I felt the familiar pain of the mate bond and what was going on outside of this closet, and I could hear them. I curled into a ball and tried my hardest not to cry. The pain was so intense that I finally passed out at some point, but I didn’t make a sound. I didn’t want them to know they were hurting me because that is what they were trying to do.
Alpha Aaron came and woke me and five am and told me to go help with breakfast. That was something that I usually didn’t do, but he continued to add chores to my ever-growing list all the time. I crawled out of bed weak and tired, but I made it downstairs and as soon as I walked into the kitchen, the familiar pain in my chest started. Goddess again. I began cracking eggs into a bowl when I couldn’t breathe. I placed my hands on the counter and my head hung down, trying to suck in oxygen, but couldn’t. The room started to spin and down I went.
I woke to the sound of beeping and bright lights and people arguing on the side of the curtain.
“You can’t keep doing this. You are going to kill her,” someone said.
“That’s none of your damn business. I want her awake and back to her chores,” Alpha Aaron growled.
“No, she needs some rest.”
“I don’t care, you are not the Alpha I am and what I say goes.”
“This is my hospital, and I will not allow her to leave yet. You did this, but I will fix it.”
“There is nothing to fix, and if you don’t wake her up and get her out of here, I will throw you in the dungeon.”
“Alpha, you are killing her. Please, just don’t betray the bond for a few days. Can you at least do that for me?”
“She has until Friday when I announce Amelia as my Luna.”
That was only two days away, and I knew I had so much to do that I knew I wouldn’t get any rest, even if he didn’t betray the mate bond. I closed my eyes trying to go back to sleep when the door was opened and someone walked out, but not the doctor. He opened the curtain and came over to the bed.
“I know you are not asleep, Sam,” he said, and I rolled over and looked up at him. It was Dr. Toby. Who also happened to be a good friend of the Alpha’s, so I was surprised he was standing up for me.
“Sorry Doctor. You can release me. I have a lot to do. I need to get them done.”
“No, you are going to sleep.”
“I can’t. I have a list a mile long and I won’t get it done.”
“It will be fine.”
“No, it won’t. Please let me go.”
“Fine, but please take it easy.”
He unhooked all machines I was attached to and took out my IV. I sat up on the bed and swung my feet over and sat there for a minute.
“Sam, if you need anything, please let me know. I know what he is doing, and it's wrong. I am sorry.”
“Do you know why he is doing it?”
“No, I am sorry.”
I headed back to the pack house and went straight to the kitchen and started helping with dinner. Apparently, I was out for the majority of the day. It wasn’t long before Alpha Aaron walked into the kitchen.
“Sam, come with me,” he growled out.
I walked out of the kitchen and followed him to his office. As soon as he closed his office door, his eyes turned black and his hands grabbed me by my hair and he threw me back against his door and his hand wrapped around my throat, instantly cutting off my oxygen.
“If I can’t betray my mate bond for a few days, you will take care of my needs. Be in my room by nine each night. Until then, I don’t want to see you,” he said with so much venom I knew that I would not make it through the next two days.
He released my throat, and I dropped to my knees, rubbing my throat and trying to get in as much oxygen as I could.
“GET OUT,” he roared, and I don’t think I have ever moved so fast in my life.
