Chapter 10

Alex’s POV

I woke up this morning from a mind link from my mom asking me to come over for breakfast. I was still angry with Kane. I told him not to be mad at his mate and when I saw him treating her like that, I was pissed. He had everything I wanted in a mate. Always did. When I look back, there were signs that our relationship wasn’t strong, but I refused to believe it.

I made my way back to my parents’ house and found them sitting out back again. They loved it out there and spent as much time as they could on that patio. I opened the door and as soon as I stepped onto the patio, Hailee jumped up and came and gave me a hug.

“I am sorry. Truly. I didn’t know anything.”

“I know and please stop apologizing.” I told her as I hugged her back.

She went and sat down with Kane again and it seemed they have worked everything out.

“Come on, I fixed everyone’s favorite,” my mom said as she put a plate of bacon on the table.

“Wait, before we start, Hailee and I have an announcement.”

“Your going back home?” I asked, being a smartass.

“Yes, but also Hailee is expecting.”

“Expecting what?” My dad, Xander asked.

“A pup, dad,” Kane said.

“WHAT? Oh, I am going to be a grandma,” my mom said with so much excitement and got up and went and hugged Hailee and then Kane.

“Congratulations, you guys,” I told them.

After things settled down with their announcement, we were able to fall into a comfortable family meal, laughing and joking. It was something that I think we all needed. After we were done, we helped clean up and then I went up to my office.

Getting to my office, I opened my laptop and went through my emails again. I had one from Alpha John, who said he could be here in two days and asked that we have two rooms available for him. I sent him a reply, letting him know that was fine.

After getting everything done that I needed to, I headed to Carly’s room. I knocked on her door and could hear her get up and come open the door.

“Hello Alpha,” she said.

“Are you ready to go meet Jenny?”

“Yes, I am very excited. Thank you for this opportunity.”

“No, thanks needed. This is something that everyone in my pack gets.”

I walked her to the pack hospital and introduced her to Jenny, who took over and they set out on a tour of the hospital, so I left them.

Two days later and everyone had gone home, and I had gotten into my normal routine. I had yet to go into my room. I couldn’t bring myself to go there yet.

“Alpha, Alpha John is here. He just pulled in.” an omega linked me.

I got up and went downstairs to the front door and walked onto the porch. Alpha John came up the stairs to me.

“Alpha Alex, it’s great to meet you in person. I am sorry about what happened.”

“Thanks, Alpha John. Let my omegas take care of your bags, and they can show you to your room. Who did you bring with you?”

“My beta, Wes, and my slave.”

“I’m sorry, did you say slave?”

“Yes, sorry. Do you not view women as slaves?”

“No, they are equals here.”

He just nodded his head and the poor girl walked up to his side and kept her eyes down. She definitely had it rough. I sent a male omega a mind link to come and take his things to his room. I was going to have to keep his contact with any of my female wolves to a minimum.

I headed to my office knowing that he would come there as soon as his stuff was in his room and I was right. Ten minutes later, he knocked on my door. I got up and put a fake smile on my face.

“Alpha John, please come in.” I told him. I stepped aside to let him in and his beta followed along with his slave. This grated on my nerves.

He and his beta came in and sat down at the chairs in front of my desk, and his slave kneeled at his feet and kept her head down.

“I am sorry, but can you excuse your slave? There is no need for her to be here. She can go relax in her room.”

“No, she belongs by my side. She won’t be noticeable.”

I just narrowed my eyes at him and began the meeting. He went on for two hours about what he was needing. It wasn’t something that I was super interested in, and especially since he had slaves. I needed to wrap this up and get him to dinner.

“Gentlemen, why don’t we go enjoy some dinner?”

“That sounds great,” Alpha John said. I noticed he stood while his slave remained on her knees. He looked down at her with disgust and grabbed her by her hair and yanked her up.

“Go to our room,” he barked out to her, and she left without a sound.

“She can join us for dinner,” I told him.

“No, she doesn’t eat with the rest of us. She will have something later.”

“I can have someone bring her something.” I told him, but he just waved his hand dismissively at me and walked out of the room.

I went to follow him, knowing I needed to do something, but wasn’t sure just yet. His beta grabbed my arm and whispered, “we need to talk, later, alone,” and then walked off behind his Alpha.

We made it to the dining hall and fixed our plates, and I led them to our table. The only one that would be joining us was Zane, my beta. Everyone knew this was a guest and would leave us alone.

“Alpha Alex, you place is very nice. You have a very welcoming atmosphere.”

“Thank you,” I told him while I wondered what his beta wanted to talk to me about and how I would get him alone.

Dinner flew by and I sent a link to Zane to see if he could get his beta alone and I would meet up with them later.

“Wes, would you like to talk about different training strategies we have?” I heard him ask and saw that Wes nodded to him. They both got up and left and now all I had to do was get rid of Alpha John.

“Alpha John, let me get someone to fix a plate for your slave and you can take it to her. I am sure she is starving.”

He just laughed like it was funny. I sent another link to an omega to have a tray fixed. It didn’t take long for her to bring it over and set it down at our table.

“Anything else, Alpha?”

“No, you may go.”

“You say you don’t have slaves, but I think you could easily do that. They are very happy to serve you.” Alpha John said.

“They serve me because I treat them with respect and they are also paid.”

“Silly Alpha. You don’t need to do that. A few beatings and they fall into line.”

This man was getting under my skin. I couldn’t stand him. I would not be giving him an alliance and he needed to get out of here.

“Well, I am going to call it a night, Alpha John.” I told him and stood up with my food and took care of my dishes and hoped that he would do the same. I walked up the stairs, headed to my room, and sent Zane another mind link about what I was doing and that he could go out the back door with Wes and back in the front and to bring him to my room. I know this was not formal and not how I would normally handle things, but I knew what he was about to tell me was big, so I needed to make it work, however.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I got up and opened it to Zane and Wes standing there. “Come in,” I told them as I stepped to the side so they could come in.

“Beta Wes, what can I help you with?” I asked him as soon as I closed the door.

“It’s our Alpha sir, he is out of control. That isn’t his only slave, and he is running the pack into the ground. He has become abusive to anyone who crosses him. The women are not safe. I need your help to stop him.”

“How do you expect me to help you?”

“I want you to kill him.”

“What makes you think I can kill him?”

“You fought the mate bond and killed your mate, sir. You can take anyone on if you can do that.”

I wanted to kill this guy right now for mentioning my mate. He doesn’t know what he is talking about. I just stared at him for a few seconds before answering him. “I will see what I can do, but have you contacted the council?”

“I can’t. He would know and then I would be dead. Not even I am safe from his wrath.”

“What brought this on, or has he always been this way?”

“His mate died, and he just snapped.”

“I will try to help, but I will not be doing an alliance with his pack.”

“Sir, you have to either do an alliance or keep his slave. He will kill her otherwise.”

“Why would he kill her?”

“He said on the way here that if he didn’t get this alliance, it would be because of her and she would die slowly and painfully.”

“I will figure something out.”

“Thank you, sir.”

We sat there talking more about what was going on in his pack and I got to the truth behind the attacks. He didn’t have enough security or enough trained warriors. After they left, I sat down thinking of what I could do and I had an idea, but I had to talk with my dads about this. I got up and headed to their house. I opened the front door.

“Oh, goddess, could you please not do that s**t in the living room? We sit down here as family.” I said, as the three of them separated. They were in some weird three way make-out session.

“Son, you barged into our house and didn’t warn us that you were coming over. That is on you.” My mom said.

“Lesson learned, but seriously on the couch.”

“Well, if you're worried about that, I can assure you that none of the surfaces in this house are safe from that,” Kane said, laughing.

“Seriously enough. I need to talk to you guys.”

“Whats wrong?” My mom asked.

“I had that meeting with Alpha John today. He brought a slave with him.”

“What no. She will not be leaving this pack. I will go get her right now,” my mom said, standing up.

“That is what I am working on and I agree I don’t want her to leave either. His beta wants me to kill him. Apparently, this isn’t his only slave, but I am thinking this one gets the worst of everything.”

“What are you thinking?” my dad asked.

“I am thinking that I will sign an alliance with him and part of that will be that his slave will stay but I want something in the fine print that states if he has more slaves it is subject to be terminated and then I can kill him.”

“Call Lucy. She can write up the contract for you.”

“That was the next thing I was going to do. I just wanted to run it by you and mom I want you on standby for tomorrow. I will need your help with this girl.”

She just nodded at me and had tears in her eyes, and I took that as my cue to leave. I didn’t say anything and as soon as I headed for the door, I could hear both my dad’s embrace her and start to comfort her. She had been through something similar and that’s why I knew she was the perfect person to help her.
