Chapter 4 Liah's POV

644 Words
It's been twenty-four months since dad left. Well seems like he had left with all the love. Exceptionally smart, and a computer expert they say I am. Maybe not really. Unlike other kids I was obsessed with computers, and other gadgets not dolls. I secretly do some basic hacking, write codes and a lot more. Dad thought me. His death was a big blow to us. Now he was gone, it was like a part of mom was dead. Her smile had faded and her eyes were sad. She used to be full of love. I can't recognise her any more. Our home once the hub of love and warmth was cold, ice cold. She would just sit on the couch and stare at nothing. I wanted her to be happy then I involved her in my usual video games. That was our fun time. *************** I sat on the couch waiting endlessly for mom. " Why was she this late?" I ask Molly. " Liah you are over thinking it is now seven pm..." Just as I was about to call her office line I heard her foot steps. A usual in her white dress. " Mom, where were you? I was worried sick." " Sorry pumpkin. I had an emergency board meeting. Mummy is sorry." she sounded apologetic. " But you could have called or your assistant..... wait did you fire him too?" " Yes." She simply said. " Mom this is the fifth time you have fired your assistant." " The are all not competent." " Fine I would find you a new personal assistant this time." I suggested. " What makes you think the one you are going to....." " I know... I know let us see. I now, our video games?" I cut her off. " Sure baby, can't wait to defeat you again." " Lets pray you win today Mom." I winked My thumbs flew over the controller at lighting speed as I battled my mom. " How did you get that power up?" Mom questioned curious as I captured her player. " Where have you learnt these moves in such a short time.?" " From the dark corners of the world mom." I grinned. Knowing that the trophy was mine already, I unleashed my final secret move and blew up her empire. She dropped the controller, with her mouth agape. The secret was, I always made her win to make her love the game now I had to take back my title. When she recovered from the shock we went in for our dinner. " Wow chicken dinner!" " Nice one, Molly." Mom smiled. " How was school Liah?" " Mom can't lie. It was fun!" " Liah, hope you did not prank any of you teachers today?" " It was just a small..." " Liah I warned you..." Now she was upset. " Fine I would try." " You should. And not try." " Okay mom, bye! " I exited the hall as fast I could. " Liah!" She called. If there was one thing I delighted in doing, it was mischief. The teachers were quite boring, a little fun won't hurt. After my bath, as usual mom came to my room to check up on me. " Are you sure you don't want me to read you bedtime story?" " Mom! I am almost nine. I am not a kid anymore." " Then what are you? An adult?" She scoffed. " Hmmm.... seems like my super intelligent daughter is speechless." " Who says I am. Mom please stay by my side." She hugged me. " Mom is everything okay." She patted me on the head. " It is okay. Everything will be fine." " I love you Mom." " I love you too my pumpkin." She kissed my forehead as she laid by my side.
