Chapter 2

1939 Words
When it rings for lunch, I finish the sentence I just wrote, and then slowly start packing my things together while everyone around me jumps up at the sound of the noise and rushes into the cafeteria. As soon as I have collected all my things properly, I also make myself leisurely in the cafeteria. On the way there, I make a short stop at my locker to stash my books and get my money. Only when I smell the smell of food in the cafeteria, I realize how hungry I am. I quickly stand in line and wait for my turn. After a short while, a classmate behind me asks stupidly, "Is this the end of the snake?" What kind of question is this? If he sees something somewhere else, a number of people are waiting somewhere: "No, we're all wrong. It's your turn!" Unfortunately, he falls for it, because he is one of the people who believes everything you say so as not to have to think for yourself. Everyone knows that here in the school! "Okay, thanks," he replies, just walking past me to the counter where the food is being handed out. I put a hand over my forehead. It was clear! logically thinking people are so rare. Nevertheless, I follow him in my eyes to see the reactions of others well. These follow immediately. Some of the people in the queue start to box him lightly, while others throw vicious insults at his head, which I find quite violent. Now I feel guilty because I have misled him on the wrong track. I knew that he was not necessarily the smartest. Nervously, I begin to chew on my lip and just want to step in, as someone taps me on the shoulder, which makes me startled and look surprised at the person behind me. But then my eyes change, because I recognize who touched me there. It's my unorganized brother Ryder. Why disorganized? Well, I bet he forgot his money again, because it took him so long to get ready. Anyway, it is sometimes like that and then he asks me during the lunch break always, if he can borrow from me something. Thinking ahead, I pull a $ 5 bill out of my pocket and hold it in front of Ryder's nose. He wants to reach for it immediately, but I quickly pull him away and demand: "Hey, you get my money only if you promise to make sure tomorrow morning that you take some with you, I can not lend you something all the time." He puts a hand to his chest and lifts the other to the oath: "I promise that I'll pay attention to it tomorrow." This makes me laugh again and I put the money in his pocket: "Well, here you have it." "Thank you, Sis," he replies cheerfully and stands behind me. No matter how many times we quarrel with each other, having a brother is nice and I would never trade it. When I'm finally at it, I smile at the black-haired, slightly paunchy cafeteria woman, but she just blurts, "Spaghetti or fish sticks?" I want to greet her, but she asks again, whereupon I answer: "Spaghetti!" The woman reaches for her huge ladle and huge pliers. With the pliers, she grabs several times in a pot of pasta and pulls out some spaghetti. She slaps her on my plate. Then immediately followed by the red sauce, which somehow looks quite strange and not at all like tomato sauce. Without another comment, I take the plate and put the money exactly on the counter. With my blue tray in my hand, I steer towards a vending machine and laboriously dig out a two-piece piece from my bag. Cumbersome I try with a strained look on my face to position my tray somehow on my upper arm and to press the buttons of the machine with both hands, which unfortunately goes totally wrong. Although I manage to push the coin in, but I can not press the buttons anymore, before the tray falls off my arm. But it does not end up, as expected, on the dirty cafeteria floor, but in the hands of another person. Confused, I raise my head and look to my savior, "Oh God, thank you Kyle, how can it be that you keep saving me?" On his lips, a friendly smile, which causes a shower of joy in me. I love that smile. It's so typical of my friend and totally honest. In order to be able to remove the tray as quickly as possible, I press the button for green tea after putting a cup under the nozzle from which the hot drink flows. Then I finally take it from him and grab the now full cup on it. "Will you come outside?" I ask, then a little stressed out of all the things I'm balancing and walking with, in tow, over the hallways without waiting for his answer. I'm more than happy that he just runs after me without me having to ask him for a long time. With the foot I push open the big doors and then take a strong breath as soon as I'm outside. I love the summer. Some of the green leaves sail down from the trees and land on the gray stones. All the green around me awakens the energy in me and makes me immediately feel the urge to sit somewhere and not go in anymore. Confident I run to the table where we sit in every break. Meanwhile, no one else goes away because he knows it's our table and most people do not want to share a table with me, so the opportunity for almost everyone has already settled. But most do not know that I even exist, even though I've been in the same class with them for six years. At the same time, Kyle and I place the tray on the blue table top and sit down. Although it is only cheap table, but you can sit still. "How was the Spanish class?", Kyle asks me with interest, as I just want to put some spaghetti in my mouth. "Very good," I reply, chewing. Luckily, I can do that without slapping and showing everyone what I'm eating. That's pretty disgusting and I always get sick when I watch people eating their food out loud outside their mouth. I hear Morgan from afar when she comes running over with her backpack over her shoulder. When I look at her, I know exactly why she hastened so much. "Did you skip the sixth hour?" I ask reproachfully. She just avoids my question: "Should not you rather drink your tea, otherwise you'll dehydrate." I roll my eyes, but am still glad that she at least listens to me. Finally, I often say that I am addicted to green tea and that my body is sixty percent water and forty percent green tea. It's almost like an addiction. However, I remain persistent: "Do not try to distract from the topic. You skipped, right?" But she does not answer this time, but only points to something at the entrance to the school. Kyle and I follow her gaze with surprise. Immediately an annoyed moan escapes my throat, which perfectly describes my current emotional world. There is none other than Ashley Walsh. Her long blond hair falls in waves over her shoulders and in her skin-tight clothes she attracts the looks of almost everyone. Fortunately, I was usually one of the few who can avert their gaze and continue to eat, but today it's different. This time Cameron Ross, her boyfriend, is hot on her heels, which is not unusual. The only unusual thing is that Cameron holds several envelopes in his hand, which he immediately distributes to everyone. I'm surprised he actually does. He is the most popular boy at the school and a football player by the way. He could almost be one of those typical bad boys on the books that all teenagers love to read. His blond, tumbled hair falls in his forehead and surely some people would damn well give him a pass. Out of the corner of my eye, I can already see all the girls, who consume themselves after him and can not avert their gaze from him. Slowly, Cameron and Ashley go to the table and hand out an envelope to each student sitting outside. Ashley stops at our table and looks at us suspiciously. I almost feel like I'm in a zoo where I'm the beast and she's the visitor. Our eyes meet and I begin to clench my teeth. Can you just look elsewhere? "Is something wrong with us or why do you stare?", Morgan asks in my place and speaks exactly what I just thought. But when she does not answer, Kyle, Morgan, and I just have our eyebrows raised. My fingers close around the tea-filled paper cup and I continue to drink. The silence goes on until Cameron comes to our table and puts his arm around his girlfriend: "Come on baby, give them the invitations!" With an annoyed sigh she takes two invitations and throws them on the table in front of Morgan and Kyle. They look at the couple in surprise. It was already clear that I did not receive an invitation, but nevertheless it hurts me a bit. But you could foresee it, knowing the past of Cameron and me. We've been neighbors since we were born, and we got along pretty well in the early years, but at the age of ten Ashley came to our class and everything changed from then on. He just started to want to be friends with her and do whatever she wanted, no matter how much he hurt me with it. In the middle school, it started with the real bullying and in high school, he did not say a word to me, which is more or less a pity. Admonishingly, Cameron Ashley pokes slightly into the ribs, whereupon, to my surprise, she also lays an envelope in front of me, which she does not manage to do without her nose hunching as they meet our eyes. My eyebrows widen questioningly and wrinkles appear on my forehead. Amazement spreads in me: "What is that?" "These are invitations to the party that I'm celebrating on my eighteenth birthday, and the whole school is invited," he explains immediately when he notices my look. Annoyed I roll my eyes. He will use this again as a chance to put me in front of everyone, which I really do not need, so I take the invitation in the hand and in the garbage, which is only a few meters away from us throw. Just as I'm about to hit the throw, however, Morgan reaches for my arm and holds me up, "Wait a minute, Katy, sure you do not want to go, that would be fun." "No," I reply immediately. However, my decision, which was actually totally fixed, comes to shaky, as I disappointed Cameron and also see a little saddened look. He seems to have hurt him with my action for some reason. "At least think about it," Morgan begs: "You know that I do not like going to parties alone." Now grinning, I turn my eyes: "All right, I'll think about it, but I can not promise anything." Not only Morgan, but also Cameron, radiates to himself. My stomach, however, gets uncomfortable at the thought of the party and I would like to run away immediately.
