Chapter 1--- Introduction
1. Ethan Reed (The College Student)
Age: 22
Background: Ethan is a history major with a fascination for medieval times, particularly the lives of kings and knights. He grew up in a small town and always felt a bit out of place in the modern world, preferring the past as his escape. Ethan is intelligent, curious, and a bit shy. He has a close relationship with his mother but no siblings, and he spent much of his childhood in libraries, burying himself in history books. His quiet life is turned upside down when he stumbles upon an ancient artifact during a museum visit, sending him back in time.
Personality: Introverted, thoughtful, and gentle. He is someone who feels deeply but often hesitates to express his emotions. His love for history fuels his excitement about being in a different time, but the challenges of navigating a royal court put his adaptability and intelligence to the test.
2. Prince Alaric Lysander (The Prince)
Age: 24
Background: Alaric is the crown prince of Ardenia, raised with the expectation that he will one day rule the kingdom. He is a natural leader, admired for his fairness, charm, and intelligence, but he feels confined by the expectations placed upon him. He longs for something more personal, a connection deeper than the political relationships he is surrounded by. Alaric’s childhood was filled with courtly obligations, and though his father, King Eadric, is stern, the two have a respectful relationship.
Personality: Alaric is confident, kind-hearted, and noble. Despite the pressures of royal life, he remains grounded and compassionate, valuing the opinions of those around him. However, he is also intensely private, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. His royal duties sometimes conflict with his personal desires, which creates inner turmoil.
3. King Eadric Lysander (The King)
Age: 50
Background: King Eadric is a pragmatic and stern ruler who has always put his kingdom’s needs before his own. He raised Alaric to be the next king, teaching him the importance of duty and responsibility. Eadric is well-respected throughout the kingdom, but his focus on stability means he is often emotionally distant from his son. He sees the royal line as something that must be protected, and he is highly traditional, believing that his son must marry for political alliance, not love.
Personality: Commanding, authoritative, and sometimes cold, King Eadric places duty above all else. He is a firm believer in tradition and the old ways of governing, and he sees Ethan as an unpredictable element that could disrupt the balance of the court.
Story Role: King Eadric serves as a major obstacle in Alaric and Ethan’s relationship. While not villainous, he represents the societal and familial pressures that Alaric must face. Eadric pushes Alaric to consider an advantageous marriage with Lady Seraphina, who he believes is the perfect match for his son. His disapproval of Ethan stems from his suspicion of Ethan’s origins and his unconventional influence on Alaric.
4. Lady Seraphina Valemont (The Antagonist)
Age: 25
Background: Lady Seraphina comes from one of the most powerful noble families in Ardenia. She was raised in the aristocracy, trained to be the perfect noblewoman, and has long had her sights set on marrying Prince Alaric. Her family has been involved in court politics for generations, and they are wealthy and influential. Seraphina is intelligent, ambitious, and calculating. She is well aware of the expectations placed upon her and believes that marrying Alaric will not only secure her future but also elevate her family’s status even further.
Personality: Elegant, sharp, and strategic, Seraphina is highly skilled in court politics. While she presents herself as graceful and composed, she has a ruthless streak when it comes to getting what she wants. She is extremely proud and does not tolerate failure, especially when it comes to her own ambitions. Seraphina can be manipulative, using charm and influence to secure her position, but she is careful to maintain an image of perfection.
Story Role: Seraphina becomes the primary antagonist as she sees Ethan as a threat to her plans. At first, she underestimates him, but as she realizes Alaric’s growing affection for him, she becomes determined to get rid of him, using her influence at court to isolate Ethan. Seraphina believes that Alaric’s duty is to marry her and maintain the noble traditions, and she sees her potential marriage to him as a strategic alliance that benefits both their families. Her outward charm hides her growing jealousy and resentment toward Ethan, and she will stop at nothing to protect her place by Alaric’s side.
5. Caius (The Loyal Knight)
Age: 26
Background: Caius is Alaric’s personal bodyguard and closest companion. He comes from a lower noble family that has served the royal family for generations. Caius grew up with Alaric, and the two have a close, brotherly bond. He is fiercely loyal to Alaric and would do anything to protect him, even at the cost of his own life. Caius is a skilled warrior and a man of few words, preferring to let his actions speak for him.
Personality: Stoic, brave, and deeply honorable, Caius is a man who lives by a strict code of duty and loyalty. He rarely shows his emotions, but he has a strong sense of right and wrong. His loyalty to Alaric occasionally conflicts with his own sense of what’s best for the prince, especially as he becomes aware of Ethan’s influence.
Story Role: Caius is initially suspicious of Ethan, viewing him as a potential danger to Alaric. However, as he sees the genuine connection between the two, Caius becomes more of an ally, helping Ethan navigate the court’s dangers. Caius serves as a protector, but he is also aware of Lady Seraphina’s manipulations and works in the background to counter her moves without defying royal protocol.
6. The Royal Advisor (Lord Benedict)
Age: 45
Background: Lord Benedict has been an advisor to the royal family for decades, serving King Eadric loyally and playing a crucial role in the court’s political machinations. He is highly intelligent and deeply involved in the kingdom’s day-to-day governance. He is skilled at navigating court politics and understands the delicate balance of power among the nobility. Lord Benedict sees Alaric as the future of the kingdom and has a vested interest in ensuring that the transition of power goes smoothly.
Personality: Diplomatic, wise, and pragmatic, Lord Benedict is often the calm voice of reason in the court. He is not driven by ambition or greed but by a genuine desire to see the kingdom flourish. However, he is also cautious, preferring tradition over radical change. He is somewhat skeptical of Ethan, especially given Ethan’s mysterious arrival and influence on Alaric, but he is not inherently opposed to their relationship if it benefits the kingdom.
Story Role: Lord Benedict acts as a mediator in the conflict between Alaric, King Eadric, and Lady Seraphina. While he is loyal to the royal family, he also sees the potential risks and rewards of Ethan’s presence. He provides guidance to Alaric and tries to steer the prince toward a future that is both personally fulfilling and politically stable.
