The Arrow
Lena's POV
My ears were still ringing from the impact of hitting the ground when the shouting started.
Warriors came from three directions at once, drawn by the sound or the bond wave or both, pouring through the ceremony ground entrance with weapons already drawn someone was calling for Kai.
Someone else was pointing at the arrow in the memorial wall and the angle of it and tracing the trajectory back toward the tree line with their eyes.
I sat up slowly.
Zane was already on his feet beside me. He had put himself between me and the forest without appearing to decide to do it, his body angled toward the tree line.
His eyes moving through the darkness between the trunks with the focused stillness of someone reading a situation rather than reacting to it.
